Guilds, some things I've pondered about.
#1
Why do people join certain guilds? For what purpose..? I've always wondered about that for myself, actually.. Here's a history of myself involving guilds:

-Joined a very small guild on my PADK back then, the guild leader was a close friend irl.
-Joined another small guild on one of my mules, loved the people in it, so random and literate.
-Eventually quit a guild on my PADK, joined a guild called 'Unsolution', made by a VERY close friend on MS, who is also a PADK. A person that I looked-up to. Once the guild started dying, I left that, and I got fond of playing a Hermit. Reborned as a Hermit (female), I made:
-"Drakonia", and I was a the leader of that guild. After the guild-hackings, I remade Drakonia, but it failed miserably.
-Joined "Scandalous" shortly after with the help of a close friend of mine that I met throughout the game via APQ. I joined because I figured, it was a higher levelled guild, and I wanted to explore my options and get stronger, and know more people.
-Recently left that guild to join another.

Something I really thought about was leaving a guild, does it mean I abandoned all of my veteran friends that used to be in that guild that loved that guild? What if that guild was no longer 'fun' to me anymore? It had nothing to do with levels, it was just 'different' to me now..

So my questions here are:

-Why do you guys join certain guilds? (For friends, for similar beliefs, or for 'power'?)
-Why did you choose to leave certain guilds, and did you feel bad for leaving?

I've been in many different guilds through out my time of playing maple, the majority of the time i was in guilds was cause of my brother was in them and the guilds he was in was vary social and relaxed and cool people . when i look back at all the guilds that i have been in and left i miss the friends i leave behind ... yet its just a fate that you chose to do thought... you chose to leave your old friends . yet there is always a chance to meet and make new friends . i feel sad when i think of all the good times i had with people and have left them or lost communication with them .Frown

- To meet new people.
- I usually leave guilds when they die, or when most of the interesting people leave or quit. I don't usually feel bad for leaving.

I formed TradeMark the day guilds came out (Jan 23, 2006, wasn't it?) and tried making it into a cool group of people. That eventually did happen, and we had a lot of great times. We never got huge, though. After like a year, too many people quit playing to be anything anymore. I disbanded and moved the name to my mule.

I used to play constantly with a good friend back then, so we decided to try out actually joining "popular" guilds. Alchemists and ArtofWar were the ones we spent time in. I liked AoW and had fun with them, but they were unfair to my friend and kicked her (she was "rude," caused problems/drama, w/e). I left because of that. I was with Alchemists after that until the guild hacking took them down. The leader already didn't play anymore, so we formed Momentary. Since Momentary was basically everyone I liked and thought was awesome from Alchemists, that Summer ('08) was probably the most fun I've ever had on MS. But then I ended up losing those friends to quitting, as well...

I left Momentary because the fun times and fun people were gone, and I didn't like the way the guilds we aligned with were becoming. I rejoined my own TradeMark and have been there since. It's just me, my two best friends from real life and one great guy from Momentary who still plays rarely. I'm usually the only one on, but I don't mind. I've become a very solo person in MS.

That's my guild story. To directly answer your questions, I join for fun. Nowadays most people in MS just suck, so it's better being in my own guild. I left guilds because of friends quitting, a friend being mistreated and the guild hack.

I like to be in a guild because I feel a good guild really enhances my mapling experience...well my guildies are a big reason I'm still playing (along with my BL lol) ^^ The most important factor for me is the people. I guess sometimes I see it as my extended BL, but it's nice to have a group of people to chat with, train with, boss with, help each other out, etc. With levelling, I also came to prefer to a strong enough guild to do many of the things in Maple that should be possible at my level.

I haven't been in many guilds, but each time I've left one, I felt absolutely horrible. I did feel like I was ditching some friends, but most of the people I was close with I kept on BL anyway, so I guess I wasn't really ditching. Usually I left because of a combination of reasons including the guild dying, personal reasons, changes in a direction that wasn't what I wanted (the guild basically acquired an entirely different feel that I did not like). In the end, if you are unhappy in your guild enough that it's not quite so much fun to play the game anymore...why stay?

I joined Alaitoc because Will (Magus) and Ben (Cactuar) were already my buds; it was magical. I joined GoonSquad after Alaitoc broke apart, mostly because I thought it to be the only other guild interesting enough to be in. I was right. Even after an estimated 8 months since I've last signed in, I still miss my Goonies. :'C

Homestarmy was founded by my fiance, I, and two friends we met doing the 999 green mushroom quest back when we were lowly noobs. Since then, the only people we've added have been people we know in real life, or friends of people we know in real life. During our peak, we had all of 9 active people in our guild. Now, we're down to myself, my fiance, and my fiance's little brother. We've been invited to higher level guilds, but eh... I'm always hearing about guild drama and ksing and other such nonsense, and I really didn't see any need to become part of that.

When I'm on MS, it's usually just my fiance and I who are online in the guild. It really doesn't bother me at all, since the reason I started playing MS in the first place was to be able to spend time together with him.

In short:

I join guilds for friends.
I have never left the guild per se; we started the guild TBPosse when we found out my little brother has tuberculosis and thought it was hilarious (it's dormant, so it's not like he's dying or anything) but it was basically everyone from Homestarmy's secondary characters so I don't think it counts.

I was in the FM and got a random guild invite (Forsaken) and joined... they were pretty cool, so I stayed, but they got less and less talkative... and I guess I didn't have any friends in it (I can't remember it at all, except the name.) so I left. Then I joined a guild because it had a cute name (iPandas. I got a random invite to that one too and stayed because of the name), but they NEVER talked, except once. So I left to join another guild (LostKingdom) that my friend had friends in... <3
Then we had to remake the guild and that's the one I'm in now. x3

I joined the 3rd for friends~ <3
I felt bad leaving it, even though it was to remake it.
I'm still in the remade one and the only reason I'd leave is if all my best friends left or if we had to remake it. I love my guildies! Heart

I followed my cousin cause he was deeper into the game than i was at the time.

I had a friendly guild that eventually died out probably cause of people going to college or something.

Then my cousin made a guild and i've been in that one ever since. We get lively and then die in conjunction with the seasons lol (meaning school = less people, no school = moar people).

I didn't feel bad for leaving the other one cause we got some of them to follow us into our current one Big Grin

Name + Emblem...

If not, then a buddy's guild, and I'll stay if it has a good name and emblem.

Longest Guild?

Back when guilds started I was in Illuminati, which was formed by a friend (and I like the name). When it disbanded, I used my then-mule to start the guild "Rock" which was only ever for my own characters, and some friends who play very rarely. My Paladin has also spent a significant amount of time guildless, as well as some other friends guilds for shorter amounts of time (Deviant and Vive, and another I can't recall the name), though currently it's in Xqsite since being guildless gets you pestered to join random guilds.

Hermit has pretty much been in friends' guilds the whole time. DK is the leader of "Rock" so it just does that.

-I join guilds for friends. Some of my very best friends on Maple I met in guilds I used to be. Sadly most of those guilds are no more. But those people are still on my buddy list. I really don't like joining guilds unless they have at least two or three of my friends that I already know. I've tried joining guilds with no one I knew and it was just boring and uncomfortable.

-Main reason I leave guilds is if I'm there for awhile and I feel like I cant make friendships with the people. Maybe its the age group or different sense of humor. Just different random reasons. Or if a lot of my friends start to quit the guild and move to a new one I just simply follow. Lol. That happened a couple of times.

When i was lower leveled, i joined because i can't play alone. I usually stayed in one guild (Tehsmecks) in windia, and most of my friends came from there. A few guilds later i found myself world xferring to khaini to be with my best RL friends (3 of them), and it was fun. After they all quit shortly after i xferred i wanted to join a much bigger guild of higher leveled people so i'd have more fun meeting people and make it easier for me to get zhelms and other stuff you need a group to get.

I guess in a nut-shell, early on i do it to meet people had have some fun. Later on i do it to meet people and make getting things easier.

I've only been in 3 guilds total (excluding a mule guild some friends made while bored), 2 of them currently.

The reason why I'm in a guild is for friends. It's a lot like an extended buddy list. It's nice to have friends to talk to to keep my attention, otherwise I'd probably log off pretty quickly. Each guild I was in, I was/is good friends with at least a few people in the guild before joining, and I stay because it's nice to have friends to play the game with that are my level or close. It's also really good for meeting new people.

Right now, I'm in two guilds (one on my Hero, and another on my occasionally played assassin), and I enjoy all the people that I am friends with. Without knowing any of them, I wouldn't be able to go to Zakum or CWPQ as often as I do.

The only reason I would have for leaving a guild is if I'm unhappy in it to the point where the good of staying doesn't outweigh the bad. If I were to leave Oasis at this point, I don't know what I would do, since I don't have enough buddy list space. Tongue1

I've never really left a guild before. The first one I left disbanded the day after, anyway, but I had something similar happen before. Polaris used to be in my guild alliance, and I was good friends with a lot of people from there. However, they left guild alliance because of various reasons, and they felt like a second guild to me, so I did feel pretty bad (although probably not as bad as some people from there, lol). Anyway, then my buddy list got filled up a bit, then I got my mule into Polaris.

I drifted a lot in my early days. I never could stick to one guild and I ended up being in like 10 or 15 different guilds. Then in June 07 I was invited to a guild called Reverie. It was probably the only guild I spent more than a month in, it was my "home" of sorts.

Then guild hacking wrecked it to sh'it.

I've been guildless ever since.

I usually join for friends and to make even more friends.

I can't even remember the names of the guilds I was in, CallMeQueen was my first guild that I liked and stayed for atleast a month, then I joined Pwnographics around September '08. Been in it ever since.

I can say I've been in about 3-5 guilds in Broa with my f/p Hellstinger depending on how you look at it.

First one they wanted a fee for expansion; and I wound up getting kicked out of it quickly. My first/second one was SacredSkillz which I was pulling off some stuff on the Aqua Road that would have thought I was hacking with some of the crazy shots I was pulling off with brace at the time. After I had left them for Divinity5 due to having had it run by a friend in real life.

Finally to my current guild Kingliner/Onmyouji; however some might ask why I named it that. Considering if one was able to watch the series Kamen Rider Den-O they'll see where I got the name. However Kingliner in it's current form was what had reformed after the devestation of the old guild Onmyouji due to the guild hack crisis about a year or so ago.

I still consider Kingliner & Onmyouji as the same guild; seeing as some of my guild members have said I'm usually fairly good about being a guild leader. I know that it's difficult for me at times with so many either gone or either work/school.

On the other hand; I've also had the joy of knowing that some of my guild members are quite loyal. If I do play mind games on some newbies in my guild by hopping on one of my alts; I'll eventually let them in on the joke if they haven't seen me before. Otherwise, they might know it's me a few other ways like joining in a conversation on my alts.

After all; some guild leaders do tend to have a bit of fun helping out newbies.

I join guilds 'cause of friends. Power, what is power. DPS? Respect for high level guild, so when you're in it, you finally get some respect - no thanks.

The leader of HawtPockets, my current guild, is 'busy' in real life. He can't play much and the guild itself is just dead. I've been in that guy's guild since when I played. He's a good friend. However, now he almost never plays anymore, I'm thinking of leaving the guild. Looking for a guild that is not dead during European times.

I've been in the same guild for about 5 years now(joined in D2 actually) quite simply because I loved the vision of it and the leader was a good friend. Or at least he was. About 4 months into it he had an accident and I've never really been able to talk to him the same way since because of his attitude it seems.

I've met quite a lot of friends over my years of playing, but most of them weren't through my guild. The majority of my friends online belong to my buddy list and even my one friend who works 10 hours a day tries to get on and set up his shop every day and try to get an hour of training in when he can. To me, that says "he's trying more than he needs to" since most of my guild now seems more caught up in drama and random crap than playing games anymore.

Most people like me do it for friends, because a guild is supposed to be a meeting place for people to chat and work together. When it's not that, you leave. The main idea is to have fun. It's the entire point of playing a game. Your on the internet, not in school or prison ;D
