Virtue is dying fast. I realized it's a shell of what it once was. What should I do?

Ugh. It all started today when a person who rejoined Virtue yet again was just asking to let a friend of hers into the guild. The problem here is that there was barely room as it is, even though only about 15-20% of the people in the guild still play. The one JR on, Larry, said there wouldn't be room. This person asked if he can simply remove one of the guild leader's old characters, since he is no longer even playing Maplestory; he's busy with RL (also has a girlfriend), so he pretty much kissed Maple goodbye. She wanted him to just remove a level 20 archer that she helped level for the guild leader. He said that it was not possible for him to do so.

She asked again, but he still refused despite her stating that the guild leader already has about 10 characters in the guild that were all his, and that the guild leader didn't even really liked the idea of an archer. All of a sudden, she left the guild, and the JR explicitly stated with a somewhat bitter tone to never invite her back to Virtue. He clearly stated he sent her a PMS of whispers. The problem here is that I never saw her causing any guild drama. Maybe some noob questions here and there, or acts silly, but never anal things. She chat invited me afterwards to talk about it, since I was the only person back then to gift her a cheap NX set for her Chief Bandit; she was forever grateful for that.

I tried to show the JR's side of it, that leaving and being reinvited repeatedly can get tiresome for the JRs. I also stated that her behavior on suddenly leaving the guild because the JR denied her request seemed immature, but it suddenly hit me when I saw the JR's bitter tone and behavior that Virtue indeed lost it's luster ever since the guild leader pretty much left the game for RL. The guild has no alliance, and there are only a few people who still train. The rest either leech themselves up characters, or don't train anymore.

I don't know, there's only at best 4-6 people on on average. Even at most, it was about a dozen people on. People are just so inactive. Even I am more active, and I log on mainly for 2x. Hell, I'm the only one who still grinds at 4th job (144 and counting). The only reason I'm still in the guild is because of Sam (undeadbows) and Ming (m1n6), but even now Ming pretty much quit, and Sam is very inactive because there's no guild related thing to do with so little people (we can barely Zak as it is), and training is hard for him with RL stuff going on.

There was a suggestion about trying to get the guild leader to come back at least so to remake the guild, if not for the ability to join an alliance. I threw a suggestion that instead of an actual guild leader, it'd just be a figurehead and the real decision making would be a small council of trusted JRs that would all have access to the guild leader account. However, I am not sure if that can save Virtue.

Should I look for a back up guild? It's a very discouraging day in Maple to find out my guild is pretty much dead, yet I still try to cling onto the principle of guild loyalty when I know without an active guild I too will eventually lose the will to continue playing Maplestory. If so, I'm willing to be invited to any large guild. I always like having more people to talk to, and an alliance for help.

I've been "guildless" for nearly a year thanks to the guild hackings. I just kind of drifted from one guild to another never finding a new home. Right now I'm in my old guild that got hacked, but there's obviously no one else here. The leader of the guild moved on to some other "pro" guild I don't really care for, so I'm pretty much in your situation.

Feels bad, man.

Way back when i was still leader of the KnightsOfNi, i remember talking to a virtue jr about an alliance. I went to finalize but then i never got a reply. Where im going with this is that im sure the KnightsOfNi would still be interested in an alliance (if you guys are). I cant speak for them as im not the leader, but i can say that they have an alliance with no other guilds in it Tongue. Its a shame to hear these things about such old guilds having activity issues (i remember old buddies from virtue way back when i was training up my priest, and that couldnt have been earlier than summer of '07 Tongue). I think you should stick with it until it comes to the point where the guild has lost all of its fun. After all, patience is a virtue (sorry, souldnt resist Tongue)

Thanks for sharing some of your views. I guess here's how I will see it. I'll level up to 150 while still in the guild, and see if it gets back up on it's feet, or continues to die out. The guild lost an additional 2-3 people in the month since I was gone. Even more of a morale deflate.

I'm basically in a dead guild at the moment, the only reason I don't leave is it was the first one I ever joined.

If you really like your guild I would say go for trying to remake it and such.

Making a new guild is next to impossible nowadays. All anyone cares about is where they can buy leech, or price checks or Bossing, whatever. Guilds used to mean something more.

Sad, but true. It is nice to be in an active Guild though in case you need help with something, but the people in it always came first for me when looking for a Guild.

Sort of necropost, but the guild is starting to get back some old members. I also realized the person that Larry kicked out was in a way more immature than I remembered her to be. The very fact he hasn't acted this way to other members in the guild can only mean that he and that member butted heads a lot in the past that I did not witness. I guess it also doesn't help she leaves and rejoins the guild like it's not a big deal; I can see how badly that would question her loyalty to the guild to just join and leave when she feels like it.

Decision at the moment? Decision to leave has fallen to ~10-15% now that more people are coming back to the guild; there is also time for the guild leader to pass leadership so the guild can be remade for an alliance and kick out old old inactive members.

I ran a respected large guild back in 2007. It's a lot of work and responsibility. You gotta Jr the right people, invite good people that'll stay, and clean the guild of inactives. If the Master quits the guild, it should remake with one of the Jrs as the master, unless the master account was a mule. I see all the warning signs of a failing guild in waht you are saying -- without the right setup, even the best guild can go completely to $hit.

To think that Virtue is dying. I remember being in Virtue over a year ago. Back when you first came to Bellocan, I was already in for about a year. But Pat's always been so back and forth on maple, always. I'd say if you're not satisfied with the guild, find something that'll satisfy your tastes.

Also, tell Sam I said hi. And how's the baby been. I haven't heard or seen the guy in ages.

Herro. Will do. The baby's doing fine.

I don't really wanna leave because Sam, Annie, and Larry are there. I really wish the other Annie (Pat's GF) can give Ming leadership sooner. Frown
