I've never paid much attention to Harry Potter. I started reading the Harry Potter series recently, and can't help but see some similarities to Naruto.
- There are three main characters in each series, with the others being support. One is a female, the other two are males. However, the relationships and nature of the characters are not that similar.
- HP series takes place in a school of witchcraft and wizardry styled in the European tradition, (broomsticks, cauldrons, wands, etc.) Naruto takes place in a ninja school (which teaches and uses oriental magic and fighting techniques.)
- Both settings feature mostly medieval elements, but they are (somewhat illogically) fused with modern technology and modern times. For example, HP's evil cousin plays video games, and there are electricity poles in Konoha village, though the practice of magic in both settings largely has not taken modern tech into consideration.
I also have to wonder who is richer, the creator of Naruto or the creator of Harry Potter.
