Chat hack morning-after pill?

I realize southperry has a no-hacking-discussion policy, but maybe someone can help me anyway?

I stupidly answered a chat invite from a stranger this morning, and now I'm afraid I'm going to be hacked.
Anything I can do, now, to prevent it from happening?

Please explain to me how do you get hacked from someone inviting you to Chat?

Yeah, there isn't a way.

Awhile ago people believed that you could get hacked through the maple chat thing. (As far as I know it was never confirmed though). Which is why the thread starter will be worrying.

Ill tell you this. Being hacked through chat or by going to fm is possible. The real question is, did anyone figure out how to do it yet? probably not.

Possible, but a bunch of script kiddies wouldn't be able to do it. It would require hacking into the database, which will indefinitely get you arrested.

Not essentially into the database, but its indeed a whole different level of hacking, and I don't think that the people who can do it will waste their time on a game.

The line between legal and illegal in MMO hacking is almost invisible. Take map crashers and d\c hackers for example, whats the difference between these guys and people who hack into websites to shut them down? both are illegal in exactly the same way. What I don't understand is why is Lloyd wasting his time shutting down private servers when he can send hackers to jail.

If you were hacked they would have taken over your account immediately. I wouldn't worry about it.

Apparently, no one remembers about the rumours of 'Ecko' hacking via Messengers. Then again, me and a friend had a Messenger-chat once with him, he wasn't that bad, but he wasn't targetting me.. so.. lol.

I heard about that as well..but with him he would send you a link to a webpage through messenger that you would have to click on in order to activate the 'keylogger' but obviously you wouldn't know that what it was. All rumors of course.


Thread Starter: You're fine, don't worry about it. If you're REALLY worried about it just change your pass & pin. Simple Fix. A hack like that would take A LOT of time to create & make it flawless & undetected at that.

I always have my messenger and trade invites off. If someone needs me, they have to whisper me. Not going to waste time opening a window that will block my screen. f3

Well it's not our fault that you got hacked :f6:.. We're just saying that it's highly impossible that somebody got hacked JUST through chat in MS, seems a bit sketchy to me & I've been playing for a long time & never heard anything like that happen nor knew any one that that happened to.

That's a really good question, but I really doubt it though, wouldn't that involve going into Nexon's server themselves? Seeing that they track each players IP address, and when they log on/off etc.. Which is pretty hard to do anyways ?

This also intrigues me as to how a person can obtain another person's IP address through a game-client, you'd have to go to the servers, and then retrieve info, yes, as some has stated. These hackers aren't even actual hackers, they're just little Script Kiddies that steals pre-made scripts. Real ones would penetrate through by 'force'.

One might imagine an implementation in which, to reduce load on the servers, chat is done client-to-client. That is, after a chat request is made and accepted, the server just gives one (or both) of them the IP address of the other, and says, "Talk amongst yourselves".

I have no idea whether MapleStory "chat" is done that way.

So? All it takes is one real hacker to develop the script and post it where the hordes of script-kiddies can download it.
