Trying to watch more

What're your suggestions? I'd prefer something that has a nice story, maybe some cute parts, with some sadness as well. Action is fine, just nothing too over the top and gory please.

That really isn't much to go off of, but I'll give it a shot. See my animelist for everything I've seen with ratings. Planetes matches what you'd like pretty well. It's a bit too slow-moving for some people, but it's one of my favorites. Shinesman (dubbed) is a hilarious power rangers/super sentai parody and recommended for everyone. You might like Code Geass. Gunslinger Girl probably isn't *too* violent. Haibane Renmei is also worth watching.
