What's causing all the inflation?
Cyanne Wrote:Merchants didn't really directly cause inflation, the hack did. The merchants are just making sure their mesos aren't losing value through the inflation by buying up high-demand items, which retain their value as long as there no new quest giving away 60% glove att scrolls to everyone, new 15 att 0 slot glove coming out, etc.

So I don't think they should be blamed for not wanting to lose the value of what they own.

I know and understand that, but with someone who basically creates a market for himself where his price is going to pretty much be the best price, which is still higher than anyone would actually want to pay, it is not a case of merchant and consumer anymore, it is a case of buy it or die.

I would rather have the hackers that are just the meso sellers running around than the so called "legit" merchant who buys out everything to force prices up. At least that way i still might be able to afford to upgrade some of my equips, which either 1 or none of are actually godly. Basically my 14 dex archer shoe is the best thing ive ever really had.
People actually DO buy nx for 1:10 now, lol >_> but its not close to the meso sites that sell 6$ for 100m.

Basically the scenario is playing out like this -
A few banks start losing their ability to maintain operation, and people speculate that they will close down.

Because of the above, a wider panic begins to spread for all people with bank accounts, and they withdraw their money from bank accounts around the country.

Because of the above, the banks originally not affected become affected, and actually do start losing money.

Because of the above, more people will remove their funds, in greater amounts. Ad nauseum.

The meso hackers started a massive influx of mesos to the economy, and merchants became defensive of their investments and started pouring their mesos into the economy and pulling rare/valuable items from it. Because of this, other merchants and meso hackers upped their ante, buying even more items for even higher prices. Each day more and more mesos are introduced, and more and more items taken out of the economy. It's not going to stop until one group runs out of funds (merchants spend all their money, hackers can't generate more mesos) or the market crashes and there is simply nothing left to buy.
Its actually situations like this that will tunr people to hacking and/or buying from meso site. I probably would too if i didnt have my dignity and pride attached to me in the knowledge that the only real bad things were looting from full inv hackers WAY back when i was only lvl ~30, over 2 years ago. And then lvling a few times when the OPQ glitch happened, but even then i jumped to normal boss runs when i actually hit 70. Other than those situations, im clean of everything Rolleyes
Sublimity Wrote:If this meso hack is true, then well good for all of us meso buyers. Because realistically, to get anywhere in the game, to have decent equips you either need to dedicate your life to marketing, buying nx and gachapon or play smart and waste less time and money buying mesos.

You are what's wrong with this game. Buying from those sites supports all of those little hacker kiddies. You should be banned from the game. No questions asked.

Also, your reasons are BS. I've probably made around 4 bil in mesos just casually playing the FM Market and APQing regularly. You're just too lazy to make an effort to get money the legit way.

VIDEO GAME RAGE!!! Redface
Just checked Bellos fm, theres a couple shops with 60%s sold for 20 mil X_X i might just fucking quit, if it werent for the intrigue of playing a cygnus character....

Truth.

The market is inflating because we're talking about it inflating. The more people think/know that it is or may be inflating will raise their prices because they heard it is inflating. So everyone be quiet and let it pass over like a storm of mass hysteria. If it keeps inflating after we quiet down, then we know something is wrong with the amount of mesos available. Anyways, with greater prices come greater rewards. You're gear and current possessions should be worth more now too, so calm down.

I couldnt care where my purchase comes from. If Im in a supermarket looking at Stereos for instance and there is 2 exactly the same stereo's but with different prices due to where they originated..... I, along with many other people will buy the cheaper one.

All of the legit/illegit arguments are ridiculous. Everyone supports hackers. Anything you put in your fm store, can be brought by hackers. The cheap scrolls you buy in the fm, could have been be bought from hackers (due to them not really caring what price it is). Or shock, the guy that buys your overpriced glove attack could have got the money from a character that hacked, thus making you receive "evil illegit money", so even though you are "legit" you cant be sure that all of your funds are legit.

While I know there are some dodgy sites out there, there are also some legit ones in terms of business and management, ones that sell all kinds of game cards, nx cards, mesos, that use legitimate payment and refund services. The only illegit thing is that Nexon calls them illegit.

Anyone who knew me way back in 2005 will know that back then I was in the position that a lot of you are in. I HATED hackers with a passion, I hated meso selling sites. But years down the track Ive realised that people can play the game however they choose, if something can save them money and cut down on the time they spend on the game then that is a bonus.

I know there is a lot of people that totally disagree with me and have strong view points and beliefs about this. I just wanted to share the other side. One day, you could wake up and will be like "Wholy crap I wasted a good year or six months of my life on something that really doesnt matter". Its a game, its pixelated money, its pixelated items. If your so into the free market and buying low and selling high and it matters that much to you, then why not go actually make a real profit and play the real life stock market. At least its something more worthwhile.

And I agree with you in a way about being "too lazy" its not so much lazy, its more of why waste my time, if there is a cheaper and easier way to get what I want. If I get banned, then great, then I finally have no excuse to even casually be sucked into this game.

The difference here is you KNOW it's illegitimate, yet you still do it.

No, to fit your comparison, there'd be one in store for $85, and one on the street corner for $15 (the same system). Both are brand new, and both suppliers have a large quantity of said systems. It is fairly obvious the street corner stereos are not legal, but based on your posts you'd buy them anyway vice the ones in the store. Your original comparison was blatantly biased to suit your argument.
Glove for attack 60% could also be blamed on the new agent gloves... People trying to get a 11 atk glove cheaper than it would be normally (only 4 scrolls)

Actually a variety of things would contribute to my selection, whether I could get a refund, whether there was a legitiment business that could be held accountable, the amount of technical support or warranty available. That would all influence my decision. One guy standing on a street corner isnt going to be that trustworthy. Im not that stupid.

In terms of ms. I couldnt care if my choice in funding shuns me from the legit community, I already am. I train alone, I dont have a buddy list, I dont socialise in game, I dont do boss runs. I get on, I do my training or questing, I log off. And before you say thats due to me being "illegit" its not, I have made the choice to interact this way. Some people do ask for leech or to train but I tell them no, I could sign up for a guild zakum run or cwkpq or ht or w/e but I choose not to. I play this game for myself and no one else. /End of discussion about me.

Anyway, back on topic, I agree with the above poster, the price of glove attacks probably has something to do with demand. People scrolling these gloves or stockpiling to scroll gloves later on. Glove Attacks have always had a fluctuating price over the years.

Very unlikely, for one, it takes WAY too long to get the perma gloves for there to be reason for the prices they are now. And two, most people will be likely to Agent Chaos the first slot, and depending on the results, 60% from there or drop it and switch back to an older glove.

@ Above,

The price of gloves have NEVER fluctuated in the way it is now. Even when SCGs came out, which were a hell of a lot easier to get, scrolls didnt go up nearly as much.

I remember gloves being like 10mil... a few years ago, and I remember the rush of people trying to do the glove attack quests in ludi and on vic to get some mesos. Maybe they didnt jump as suddenly as they have but they have been this high before.
Judgment Wrote:Not to mention that there's a chance that the mesos obtained by those sites were from hacking other people's (legit or hacker) accounts and selling the items to stockpile even more mesos to sell. I haven't heard many incidents of this being the case compared to the amount of hacking/botting going on for mesos, let alone if this actually happens, but the possibility of this just adds to the illegit nature of this act. Tongue

Mesos farming is really slow by hacking people's accounts, heavy wworlwide merchanting, botting, questing and leveling chars with hacks is much easier.

GummyBear Wrote:Also, it's a bit absurd to think mechants and meso sellers are opposing entities. Merchants target profits, meso sellers targets conversions. More meso injected into the economy means higher inflation. This benefits both sides. Merchanters creates demands for meso, and meso sellers satisfy those demands. Together hand in hand, they're working nicely. It's close enough to assume that they're one big entity working in different factions.

Inflation in-game leads too a poor mesos-money conversion rate. The higher the scroll prices, the lower the mesos price will be.
I can't help but feel that the last two pages are filled with people that have ill-founded beliefs and reasoning about the free market economy and merchanting in general due to their choice of pursuing other interests in this game outside the FM. What irritates me is when people that have no firm grasp of the inner workings of a system make accusations and directly attack other people based on their own presumptions of what they deem to be impossible. If you've never seriously merchanted, how would you know that it's impossible to merchant billions while refraining from exploiting meso selling sites or other means of hacking?

A few other points I'd like to make:

1) When currency devaluates, investment in material assets increase to offset the damage inflicted by inflation. This is a prevailing method of counteracting inflation. To the people that are accusing merchants of abusing the game for selfish purposes, I will say that it is YOUR choice to do NOTHING in the face of inflation, but others may not feel the same way and devise methods for retaining their personal wealth. If you believe my justification for wanting to not lose money is flawed then I would heavily recommend that you let an accountant or other financial institutions look after your money and investments later on in the future.

2) To the people that are saying "buy it or die", why buy? How does not buying result in a figurative death in maple? It is and always will be your CHOICE to buy it or not. The merchant and consumer relationship has not changed at all. If no one BUYS, prices decrease. The reason you people keep BUYING, as I've mentioned in my prior post, is because you seek PROFITS from this inflation. Please don't misconstrue the situation.

3) I'll grant you an example of how good merchants are able to make legit mesos in large quantities. Let's assume that a very good merchant has 5bil in pure mesos (a relatively conservative amount). Now's let's assume that he collaborates with other merchants and together devise a plan of making large profits in the face of impending inflation. Assume now that this merchant slowly but steadily starts buying a supply of a certain predecided scroll and let's make it GFA for the purposes of relation to this thread. Over a period of time, with 5bil, this merchant can easily acquire 900-1000 GFAs prior to inflation. Inflation hits. Merchants decide to sell at this point and preserve their buying power. 5m each scroll inflates to 20m each scroll. If all scrolls are sold at a price of 20m, merchants earn a profit of 15bil from their initial investment of 5bil. This could very well happen over a period of one single week. The merchant essentially increased his investment 3-fold over a period of one week because he was well-prepared and planned things out. Tell me, is merchanting legit? Or do you people deem that anything that deviates from killing monsters for mesos is an act of blasphemy to some undying maple god? By the way, please note that while I say a 3-fold increase of wealth, it really isn't because of inflation devaluing mesos so the real growth in wealth is much more conservative.

4) To the people that address merchants in the same category and family as meso sellers, you are gravely mistaken. There is truth in that merchants target profit in game and meso sellers target conversions, however, please understand that when meso sellers inject mesos into the game, the worth of mesos decrease and merchants need to find ways to counter this and retain their wealth. If a merchant does nothing, they lose. Another problem that arise from inflation is diminishing buying power and an oversaturated economy that will inevitably lead to the death of this game. Too many mesos in the game, would mean all legit players, merchants or otherwise, lose. You can't afford to buy anything because SOMEONE will always increase price (Adam Smith, invisible hand, etc) to adjust to the market. In the end, meso sellers win out. Everyone else loses.

5) Current meso to nx ratio is 10:1 as someone previously mentioned. This increases the value of NX. More people buy nx in one method or another. Nexon gains. NX sellers gain. Does Nexon care enough about the game to fix this? Maybe. Their TOS is ludicrious though. If you haven't read it, read it.

I think I covered most of the things that were mentioned in this and hope this resolves some tension.

I personally dislike merchanting because I'd rather the item just go to someone that wants/needs it, and I don't like struggling to find something because merchants have bought it out. It adds extra steps to the producer/consumer relationship that are unnecessary and serve no purpose other than to shuffle the item around from person to person until the buyer that actually needs or wants it has to pay 3-4times more for it than he originally would.
Meso buying = hacking is a completely illogical statement.

Premise: He buys mesos
Premise: Buying mesos supports hackers.
Therefore: He hacks

The conclusion does not match the premises, and therefore is an illogical one (the correct conclusion being "He supports hackers")

Southperry does have a policy against hacking itself, but not a policy against those who support hackers. Already, this site has a don't ask don't tell policy about hackers. Are we a hacking site because I support that? I suppose I'm supporting hackers, therefore I must hack.
