What's causing all the inflation?
Dusk Wrote:And Nexon's solution: sell 1b mesos in Cash Shop for 10 bucks so people stop buying from those sites.

You mean more inflation? Tongue1
I don't care, as long as I can sell my two glove attack scrolls! Biggrin
holyforest Wrote:Fixed.

DMCA notices apply to copyright violations. Not exactly applicable to meso selling sites anyway. Besides they'll have multiple DNS registrations lined up to crank up new sites. Nexon needs to find out if and how mesos are being hacked and fix that. If they are as some ppl have claimed, it may already be too late.

My assumption is that this is a packet edit since it's unlikely that each and every mesos has a unique identifier. So when you pick up mesos the packet sent to nexon has the number of mesos in it. If you can change that value to the maximum droppable value of 50k and nexon doesn't compare the amount dropped to the amount picked up then you have an issue.

Considering how many mesos are in use, the back end database would have to use some guid value to ensure that each mesos is different. I can't see that happenening as that would cause all kinds of trouble. If I traded 100 million mesos from one account to another and each mesos had a guid, then the backed database would have to delete from one table (my inventory) and insert into another table (other inventory) 100 million rows.

I'm not familiar with what backend database nexon uses, but on one of my production SQL servers at work, 100 million deletes and 100 million more inserts are going take a good amount of time. (measured in minutes at least)

Considering that trades and picking up even 50k bags don't incur any delays in game, I'd say it's safe to assume mesos don't have unique values.

BTW, when a monster drops a weapon or scroll there's often a noticeable delay, especially on slower computers.

@Froznlite
I agree that legits shouldn't be buying mesos from these sites. However, as the cost get smaller and smaller, the temptation will get larger and larger.
I got nail by the market. HARD.
Tae Roon finally dropped a Chaos scroll for me, after hunting for hours at bunnys and jello slimes, and I put it in my store at the max amount i had seen sold quickly and not sit there. (70m was sold out, 80m wasn't.) I was then informed by the guy who BOUGHT my scroll, that the price of the scroll went up because ONE GUY bought a Chaos scroll for 90m. The next day, Chaos Scrolls were 150m. GG FailMarket.

And to top it all off, today I was selling my 16 dex 11 acc 3 speed Green Neos Pants. Someone offered 120m, which i thought was ok, even though I was expecting more. Then a girl comes into my store (which had the c/o of 120m written in the title!) and offered 90m. I told her the c/o was 120m, and she said I was lying, and that Basil Market told her my pants were 100m, so she wouldn't go higher than 90m! I told her she wasn't gonna get the pants, and she the said "90m is my offer kthxbye" and then called me a liar 2 more times. o-o I hate the FM sometimes...
GFA are 20m in Bera. Tongue

I'd be happy for a complete meso wipe on all servers as soon as this hack is eliminated. Merchants would still have whatever items they'd stockpiled and could make it back, the only problem would be with training costs. Leaving everyone with 5m would work fine though.
That's it, I'm taking a break from MS until this is all over.
I honestly don't see how I'm supposed to somehow "take advantage" of this situation. Sure, i may find a glove att scroll, but even if i sell it for 20m I'm not gonna get shit in this inflated economy.

Yeah! With 5m a chief bandit could train for half a level! I'd rather have everything inflated and be able to afford training, thank you very much.

I'll do you one better. Got a chaos from Seruf right before the patch, sold it the day after figuring nothing had changed. I like to undercut just a little to keep things moving, So I went with 38m instead of 40, figuring that acceptable. I didn't get the memo that the white scroll supply somehow correlated to a jump in chaos to 80ish almost literally overnight. I'm only nerdraging more seeing them back to 180m+ in Broa.

About two days after that, I found myself with a helm dex 60% for 3m. Took 2 days to sell it for 45m, and the day after that some moron bought every one in the market for any price up to 80m Eek

It's kinda fun to sit back and watch the rollercoaster. I just checked the FM for the first time in two days, and I was actually a little surprised. Except for GFA and a few similar items prone to wacky hi-jinx, things aren't nearly as apocalyptic as threads like this would make them out to be.
Great, mesos are going to become worthless. And what's nexon going to do about it? Probably nothing.

It's the same situation in Scania. Frown

Man. Even worse that it hits the world I'm in.

Maplestory: Srs business.
I do hope this gets resolved soon, but in the meanwhile it won't bother me too much. I intend to create all my upgraded equipment with maker, and as it stands now, them clean beat what I have now Tongue.

Other than that, I have what I need as far as pot money is concerned, so I'm good.

I will say this however, when someone mentioned the price of those meso sites; I did feel more tempted to succumb than I ever had before. I still won't do it, but it is quite tempting to the point many others won't be able to resist...

Let's just hope we're all getting paranoid and there isn't actually a hack out there and this will blow over in 2 to 3 weeks.
would the massive meso influx be due to some sort of NX-hack?

meso bags were in the cash shop recently. if you had unlimited nx via hack, that's essentially nexon pwning their own game's economy. it would also explain (a bit) that odd photo with all the meso bags in the fm entrance.

watch for people drop trading mesos in weird places i guess.
I stopped reading after page 4 bc I am tired so if anything I say was repeated previously I apologize...

Cygnus has nothing to do with this inflation bc there was never a crazy jump in prices even when pirates were on the pinnacle of being released...

It all has to do with the fact that people can get 1bil meso for like $40-$50 now from meso selling websites...and even though not everyone does it there are a good amount of people who do and who will start to considering the price is so cheap.

Keeping that in mind if you had that much meso and items were at their previous prices pre-inflation that would give people the incentive to buy out items/scrolls in the fm to either use for themselves or to inflate prices. Seeing this as a possibility, people either beat them to it and spiked up the prices or the situation actually did happen and people inflated the most common scrolls...namely all the GFA scrolls (it isn't just 60%s, 30%s and 70%s have skyrocketed as well).

Although it isn't fair for the people who don't buy meso and have no intention to, the fact that prices have gone up while meso:$$$ has gone down still sort of evens out the playing field in terms of how much meso a person would pay for an item or scroll(s).

The reason why GFA scrolls havent shot up in price in the MTS (or maybe they have I wasn't in there today so I am going off by what I saw yesterday) is because 25k NX is still $25...compare that to 600mil meso for $27 (an extra $2 for guaranteed meso whereas if you used the 25k nx on gachapon it'd be a serious gamble even with White Scrolls coming out of NLC like nothing).

With this in mind if you were to buy NX @ a 5:1 ratio (meso to NX) you would be paying 500mil for 100k nx which equivalates to $22 if you bought the 500mil from a meso site...that doesn't even cover one of the NX cards used...I am rather surprised the meso to NX ratio hasn't skyrocketed because of this either.

Either way, until the prices go back to where they were from the websites, people who don't buy are just going to be butt hurt and get stuck suffering.

I'm just patiently awaiting Cygnus...Dawn Warrior ftw <3

I dont care if theres a hack that lets you get laid, something like this isnt fair to people who barely bring in a few mil for what they put long hours into. You have effectively destroyed a major part of this game, especially to anyone who who wishes to have even average damage. I hope you shrivel up and die.....

And i rarely wish that on anyone. Even if it is "just a game" this kinda crap should never be allowed to be possible. Even with this hack (which im sure you "legitly" used yourself Rolleyes ) you taking advantage of "other" people using hacks by basically forcing inflation onto everyone is a major ass move. Now go cut yourself dry....
A couple of points while reading the last few pages...

Nexon CAN track accounts. They have a record of which account traded with which account which is why some people have in the past had their "normal legit" characters and accounts banned because they had a "hacking" account. Everyone knows the old have your hacker, have your transfer mule and then have your main trick. But nexon CAN track this if they wanted.

The point is, from my experience, despite a lot of people posing as "legit" I can bet you that more than half of those have at some time bought mesos. It's just that most of those people just dont admit to it because they know the consequences that can happen. However I am yet to see any of those things happen as generally I think people these days really dont care as much about meso buying.

As I stated before I do buy mesos, I do not EVER step foot in the fm. I personally hate the fm, its full of people who have nothing better to do then sit for hours researching prices and trying to make a profit. I train, I have a small amount of mesos, and to tell you the truth I have never had more than 50mil legitly earnt before. Its just too hard for the casual player who doesnt have the time nor money to waste on legitly throwing away money on gachapon. Theres the odd occassion once every couple of months I might feel like gachaponing or when my mule gets full of drops and scrolls from training Ill buy a mushroom store and offload cheap (I dont even research prices I sell everything for 1-2mil).

The only time I do buy mesos, which happens perhaps once every six months. I buy between 200-300mil for a purpose of getting an upgraded equip, thats it. Oh and to the person above, generally, from my experience, you cant tell that Im trading with a meso seller because the ones Ive traded with have completely normal names and they meet you in the fm. Ch 9 fm 13 is the one for the site Ive used in the past.

A few years ago Glove ATT scrolls were high. I remember them going for like 10mil in Khaini and Mardia. Its just an economic cycle.

If this meso hack is true, then well good for all of us meso buyers. Because realistically, to get anywhere in the game, to have decent equips you either need to dedicate your life to marketing, buying nx and gachapon or play smart and waste less time and money buying mesos.

Merchants didn't really directly cause inflation, the hack did. The merchants are just making sure their mesos aren't losing value through the inflation by buying up high-demand items, which retain their value as long as there no new quest giving away 60% glove att scrolls to everyone, new 15 att 0 slot glove coming out, etc.

So I don't think they should be blamed for not wanting to lose the value of what they own.
