What's causing all the inflation?
#81
aww i just sold some for 1k Frown

Apples in Mardia just nearly doubled overnight (3m to 5m). The inflation is getting weird.

It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

Yah this is crazy. I cant even imagine why apples are going up everywhere. APQ isn't glitched (to my knowledge). I doubt there's been a spike in Zruns/HTruns, but who knows. I think people are just taking advantage of the situation now. =\

Perhaps people are loading up on Apples for Pink Bean? Just throwing that idea out there.

Someone brought this thread to my attention and I found it amusing enough to give a reply. =P

First off, to Taylor: I hope you realize that CollectorS is run by people from other servers.

Now, to address the wild speculations you people have regarding the recent inflation en masse.

The inflation is rooted in meso farmers and meso sellers. Currently, there exists a hack that effectively generates the user max mesos in a very very short amount of time. These mesos are then distributed and sold via meso selling sites or used as the user sees fit.

What are the effects of this?

A massive amount of mesos is being injected into the game economy across all servers. The more mesos in circulation, the greater the inflation.

Seeing an opportunity for profit, many merchants decided to capitalize on glove attack scrolls for two purposes: the ease at which they can be liquidated and resold for profits due to their high demand and the ease at which they can be converted into nx in mts.

Now I'll explain the cycle in which everything occurs using glove att scrolls as an example.

I, along with a few friends and other merchants, effectively bought out the entire FM of GFA in ALL servers. This is not impossible when you're rolling in tens to hundreds of billions of mesos in pure in each server (all legit, I assure you).

We then gradually increased the price in all servers from what was 6m 3 days ago to the current 20m now. How is that possible? Why would anyone buy? 3 groups of people would buy them: people that need to scroll, people that want to resell for more during inflation, and the people that are converting it directly into nx.

First group: the rise in the price of GFA has prompted tremendous escalations in ATT glove prices. People are spurred by the possibility of scrolling large profits and buy the scrolls. They sell, we raise the price.

Second group: the dramatic inflation has caused many people to speculate that glove atk scrolls will keep increasing to even wilder figures and buy out the market to attempt to sell for more. We sell for 20, they buy them out and try to sell for 30. They sell, we raise the price.

Third group: this group is tricky. It comprises of people that convert to nx to deflate mts, people that farmed mesos and are converting to nx then to real money, and people that just want their nx. The first sub-group injects pages of glove atks to deflate mts and deflate market, but only managed to change the nx to meso rate from 1:4 to 1:8+. The second sub-group uses their farmed meso to buy out the FM at ANY price and then sell those scrolls in MTS for very cheap so they can then convert the NX they gained from meso hack into real money. The third sub-group is just selling in mts and then use the nx to buy other things in mts for various purposes.

Now, to optimize on profits, we naturally attempt to cater to the largest consumer base, in which case is Scania. So what happens then is that the GFA in all servers are all being sent to Scania and the supply dramatically decreases in the other servers, thereby driving up demand and leading to even larger inflation.

This cycle applies to a variety of other items too.

Why is there inflation? Monopolization and because people buy them at those prices!

Now, there is a peak to this inflation and I'm sure you can all calculate it given the rates, so I don't need to tell you too much about that. =)

Happy Mapling~

In responce to the meso selling link posted previously in this thread ( http://www.mygamesale.com/MapleStory/ ), sorry if you dont want this here, but remove the reference on page 1 if you want to remove this one. Upon closer inspection, mesos in demethos cost only very slightly more then mesos in scania, which in my opinion points very strongly to some sort of meso hack

So you basically felt like ripping people off in every server, and did it because you had enough money to? Nice. Tongue

Muhaha, Well put iCollect, we are a fairly well organized team, quite effective I might add... and to FelixTM, yes it's all legit, you would know if you actualy merchanted or walked around in the FM.

Hum, I might of added something but everything that iCollect wrote was thorough and precise.

you know instead of whining about it you can try to take advantage of the situation. do some glove attack quests or buy from secondary markets to resell in free market. i went from 100 mil to my name to over a bil since this patch and it's all been done due to rising prices, secondary markets, and a good free market spot.

Yawn. I refuse to buy inflated crap - if I need the scrolls, I'm just gonna head to FoG (GFA), Cold Eyes (Chaos), etc.

Gotta love people selfishly inflating everything though - nobody is using anything in the market now, they are simply constantly buying/reselling for profit.Stunned

Thanks for the post! Read the whole thing, and really makes a lot of sense now that you've highlighted what's going on.

To those who dislike what they've done, please understand that while you can choose to get 500m EXP a day if you really tried or whatnot, so too do merchanters choose to play the financial game as they please. I have no doubt that several, especially Scanian and Beran merchanters, have tens of billions of legit, merchanted meso (though hundreds is pushing my beliefs), meaning they can choose to spend it as they wish - and thus, change the economy at whim. Be thankful they haven't constantly screwed over the market. The main reason why their GFA plan worked so well is because there are few enough big FMers in GMS that their community is the tightest-knit of any that can possibly exist.

Now, while iCollect said the merchanters simply took an objective advantage of an opportunity to make billions of mesos, there is actually some good out of what they've done for all legit, average-wealth players like the majority of us: they're deflating the effect the hacking meso farmers could have on the economy. By choosing to inflate NOW, the essential Mapler items like good equips and scrolls are not in the hands of quickly rich, hacking Meso farmers or buyers, but are in the hands of those who truly run the global markets. Sure, they're choosing to buy and sell them as things go on, meaning a percentage of them will land in the hands of the illegit, but had they not inflated GFAs (and by default, item prices across the markets), the illegit would have full choice of whatever they wanted, meaning more of these items would be in their control. The FMers are, in a nutshell, devaluing the meso in order to make a quick buck but are subconsciously diminishing the purchasing power of hackers.

I agree that it may not be the most ethically sound plan, and I don't condone inflating/monopolizing a market to make it difficult for the average person (I'm extremely liberal), but I do think it's important to recognize that, in a game like MapleStory where monopoly is easy and legal, sooner or later it would happen, and the best the average player can do is be mentally prepared to take advantage of, or at least stay afloat, the financial maelstrom.

THANK YOU. I like the way you think haha. I was just about to post after reading posts about people flaming merchants. And yeah it isn't that hard to make 10 bil+ legitly. Just gotta know what your doing.

If that is true then the supply of mesos are effectively infinite and eventually the cost of mesos will approach zero. As has happened with other games, an infinite supply of in game currency will destroy the economy.

Would you care to elaborate on what you deem to be "a very very short amount of time"

I find it interesting, no fascinating when people spend the time to manipulate/control in game economies. Can we assume that you partake in a maple version of arbitrage? (e.g. buy up all apples in server A where they are 3 mil and transfer the char to server B to sell in for 6 mil and then back maybe with some other item that can be 'arbitraged'?

I heard from a friend, it takes 10 mins to get a max mesos char.

undue Wrote:I heard from a friend, it takes 10 mins to get a max mesos char.

This game is done for at that rate.

How in the world is Nexon going to be able to remove trillions of mesos. Right now mesos selling sites are at $45 per billion. If the meso dupe is not fixed this figure is likely to go lower as the cost of generating these mesos is pretty much zero.

Kradia's FM is completely void of SCGs (Yes, no SCGs in the entire FM) and any semi-godly gear. Apples are up to 5mil, sadly. On a positive note, I can still get a lot of scrolls relatively cheap so I am buying those out fast, but yea it has hit us too. It took me like 2 weeks to merch that 1.3bil, but since its only worth $60 or so now its completely pointless...

but the inflation is GOOD we are back to the normal prices no more 4m for ilbis, and glove attack's were 11m before all the events and before NLC came out
I remember when glove att used to be 1.5-2m...11m is DEFINITELY inflated.

The inflation definitely isn't good, especially for those of us who don't have billions of mesos sitting around. Now I have to put a hold on pretty much any upgrading of equips....and as a low dex sin trying to get ready for my next weapon, it sucks :/
