PSP games.
#1
In light of recent events I am going to buy a PSP, that being said what games are there for the PSP that aren't compleate and utter pomegranate?

Also, do UMDs come in disk format? If not, do they come in a shape that is viable to use as a coaster?

This thread.

Edit:

I've had a PSP for almost 4 months and it's been great so far.

Games I played and recommend: (I had written a brief explanation but I accidentaly closed the tab.)

- Crisis Core: Final Fantasy.
- Dissidia: Final Fantasy (JAP sucks)
- LocoRoco 1 & 2.
- Patapon 1 and 2.
- DJ Max Portable 1, 2, Fever, Clazziquai Edition, Black Square. [beatmania smashing buttons style.]
- Ys: Ark of Napisthim.
- Disgaea: Afternoon of darkness.
- Final Fantasy Tactics.
- Me and my Katamari [rolling over people and buildings is awesome.]
- Tales of Eternia.
- Cabela's Hunting Safari.
- Sega Mega Drive Collection.
- Puyo puyo! Fever.
- Eiyuu Densetsu Sora no Kiseki. [Again JAP sucks. 2 DISCS! zomg!!1!]
- Space Invaders 30th anniversary.
- N+.
- Street Fighter Alpha 3. [Nice port.]
- Dungeon Siege. [so easy though.]
- GTA: Liberty City Stories.
- GTA: (I can't remember the name of the other one Dx)
- Need For Speed: Carbon.

And well, some more I'll edit later.

And slightly off-topic: If you plan on getting a PSP, a Custom Firmware is the way to go. It's sad, but so many good games out there that you can't get via UMD.

Disgaea is win, so is Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero, but expect to be frustrated.

Patapon demo is awesome, and I got FFT, but haven't played yet, so can't help you there...

And what custom firmware would you recommend? I've been looking into it, but never made a chioce.

If you like turn based strategy games, get Disgaea. It'll last you...god...SO many hours. The gameplay is pretty deep and interesting, although the random dungeons inside items can be a bit awkward at times (make sure you always have a ranged attacker, sometimes enemies spawn on platforms absurdly far away from you), the humor is lighthearted and fun, and it's all in all a great game. I'm actually thinking of buying a new PSP (old one got sat on, screen broke) just to play it again.

Thanks for the list, RobMdza. And for the record, yes I am definitely going to softmod it, in fact that's half the reason I wanted to get it in the first place. <_<

The last CF I tried and was stable was DarkAlex's 5.03 M-33 CF. It's highly stable and it features almost every new tweak and option. On the other hand, 3.71 and 4.xx CFs work pretty well too.

By the way, you plan on getting a new one or a used one? Oh, and PLEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAASE DO NOT BRICK IT. A friend of mine did and regrets it.

EDIT: More games:

- God of War: Chain of olympus.
- Prince of Persia [if you have already played PC titles then it might bore you a bit.]
- Flow.
- Densha de GO! [Train simulator]
- Daxter. [Still haven't played it yet.]
- Chili Con Carnage.
- Dead Head Fred.

and.... well. I'll be playing and posting. 4 months don't leave me space for more games. D:

How easy is it to brick one of those anyway?

That Dissidia is Jap or Eur/Usa?

It's fairly easy to brick them. Battery issues, Usb issues, Pandora Battery issues.

So... Beware.

Oh, and since you asked: UMDs are small disky things. Not big enough for a coaster, sorry. Frown

Yup, that's the US release.

Hm. I'm sure I'll find some use for it then.

HELL YEA. Time to KICK SOME ASS with Tidus and understanding everything I do. The JAP version made me screw the story mode several times.

Btw, Gitaroo man is a nice game too.

Only annoying part is that it's coming out the 25th of August, that's literally 5 days before school starts for me. Though, I did hear they added a LOT of balance tweaks and various new content for us.

Honestly if you get a PSP and don't hack it you're wasting a lot of potential. I don't know about the new PSP etc, but the old model PSPs are easy to get a custom firmware onto and if you follow one of the many guides they have out there you're practically guarenteed to not brick it.

I have one but I don't have very many UMDs for it. Just FFT: War of the Lions and Valkyrie Profile both of which are really good.

All PSP models, including PSP 4000 are easily softmodded, but bricking it is a risk. ALWAYS. In 4 months or so I've tried 3 different CFs but always had the risk.

I've never heard of it happening to people who have done it properly.

Of course that if done properly you won't brick it but lets say your battery is 80% and the DC cable unplugs and you don't notice and you leave it there while it's flashing the software and the battery goes under 60% you're pretty much fucked up. Or if you use a Pandora Battery. Dunno, anything can happen. Goggleemoticon

And before I forget, MAKE SURE to play Viewtifull Joe: Red Hot Rumble. It's like a mix between Wario Minigames and SSB. Awesome.

Kay' so how big are the typical save files for PSP games, and for that matter how big are the roms? (Trying to figure out how much memory I'm going to need.)

So pretty much if you're stupid.
You can pineapple up any electronic by being an idiot. That's not just the PSP. As long as the OP is careful in what he does he'll be fine.
