Macro Quirks
#1
I've noticed a major quirk of macros, thought I'd share it and its many uses. Note that this is old information, but a lot of people may be unaware, or may not have thought of some of the uses I have for it.

Basically, macros fire off skills as soon as they possibly can. The main use for them is to save keyboard space, and as a secondary function they help to reduce time taken between buffs/attacks.

The fact that they fire off as soon as they are able, however, has an interesting side effect -
---If you use a skill in midair through macro, such as Rush, any mage attack, etc, that cannot normally be used in midair, it will activate the INSTANT you touch the ground. Combined with above-mentioned skills, this can be pretty useful.
Examples -
-Rushmacro = Land on edge of a platform and instantly push mobs away before you can fall. Also good for instantly rushing mobs after jump+attacking. In terms of usefulness, 5 stars. Having a Rush macro with no other skillslots used doesn't have any detrimental effects.
-Recoil+Wingsmacro = Instantly use Wings after landing from Recoil. VERY difficult to time the Recoil+Wings combo without at least Wings being in a macro. However, macroing them together means you still have to have a seperate keyslot for each skill individually, or else you'll either use Wings when you don't want to or have to use Recoil to use Wings. Putting Wings on its own macro and leaving Recoil as is accomplishes the same thing without the limitations. In terms of usefulness, 5 stars as well.

---If you name a macro involving Somersault Kick, the name will not show up, regardless of whether or not "Shout macro name" is turned on or off. Just good to know if you have " ____ Please" as a macro requesting assistance.

---Sometimes the order of skills can interfere with macros working successfully. See comments below about Strafe/Snipe. Some issues with skills with long cooldowns/delays or stunning effects (Dragon Roar) exist as well. L > Complete list of unmacroable or macroable with issues skills.

Any suggestions or other uses for this quirk will be mentioned as well.

If only "Strafe+Snipe+Strafe" worked correctly as a macro. It would be the God-tier macro for bossing.

I knew about this a while back, but i wonder how this would work for some buccaneer tricks.

Too bad you can't macro corkscrew blow. >_>

Are other ideas for macro uses welcome, not just concerning the earliest set off thing? If other ideas are allowed, I've been using charge blow combined with my charges as a make-shift advanced charge blow.

The timing of those tricky things would just throw me off my game. It's a definite no-no in my book.

I use snipe -> strafe -> strafe, and it works fine O.o

Well, they're fine, but this thread was more for some of the odd things macros do, not necessarily generally useful macros. Kindof a "In case you didn't know that macros worked this way, and it makes ____ more useful than you'd think"

Oh. Pity I didn't try that arrangement, huh? O.o

Any reason why it can't just be snipe -> strafe?

I dunno if its me but I find that have Bless > Hs behaves oddly. Sometimes Bless only will happen and others it will do Bless twice before HS.

But using macro on a non-air skill will mean that you can't do the jump+attack at the same time.
You'll either be using it b4 you jump or after, never the sametime.

Yes, that's true, but there's no reason to put strafe on it's own macro, or any comparable skill that is more useful when jump-shooting/casting. Rush isn't that useful jump-shotted, and Wings is meant to be used on the ground. I don't know of anyone other than bowmen or mages that bother jump-shotting/casting, and none of their skills (except maybe Dragon Breath) would be particularly useful with airmacros.

Upon further testing this does NOT work. :]

Oh, and one thing I like to do with macros (though most probably know this already) is to put a cooldown skill on a quick slot so that I can view its status, and then macro it to a more accessible key.

That'd be awesome if i didn't use every single hot key for something/needed the keyboard space. >.>

Once again that would be solved if they let you set the keys on the quickslot yourself (instead of being ins, home, del, etc.)

e: lol, sniped.

I also want to be able to move the direction keys.

Funfact, before I used joytokey and a joy stick, I actually had a batch file swap out my scan code registry file to make WASD movement, and the quick keys my normal ones.

Just backup your original a thousand times and tell the batch file to switch them ^^

Anyways, if you put iron arrow on a macro by itself, and jumpshot with it, the arrow comes out higher then it should (credit to Spiritrival). Not useful, but very weird.

How doesn't it? O.o
It's not just hold it down, you have to watch for the snipe cooldown on a quickslot key.

That's not what I was thinking of. Ideally it should work in a way that replaces your Strafe key. If you're going to watch your Snipe cool down anyway, then there's no point in making this macro.
