Would you quit because of Elemental Wands/Staves?
#61
Kabanaw Wrote:You know, I've seen more Bishops using wand 7 than any other kind.

And lol@ the results. 1 person would quit due to this out of ~70 would quit due to them changing it.

And Gacha would still have just much of a lure for people as before.

So you said that Bishops would sell their wands, putting more 6's and 8's into the system, which keeps 5 and 7 just as high. Even if prices drop at first, they'll eventually go back up because people will stop gaching for them and less supply will be in the system. With these new prices, people would go gach again.

Stop stalking loddlaen Goggleemoticon Most bishops go for whichever one is cheaper. I see more bishops wearing the purple and the yellow one, but of course this is only scratching the surface of the actual population.

People wouldn't stop gaching, per se, but there's a difference between gaching 100 tickets and gaching 200 tickets. You gach 200 tickets because the increased chance that you might get an ele wand which will sell to cover the cost of your run, with the remaining scrolls/etc. sold off as profit. When you remove that impetus, people don't go on massive gaching runs in the hops that they can sell to a wealthy bishop/archmage because the demand simply isn't there.

Since you're so privy to saying that most bishops use 5 and 7, the point would be that the demand will go down. If archmages were really as rich as bishops (again, lets entertain the hypothetical that seems to drive the rabid anti-bishopness here), then the prices would be fine the way they are, but the goal here was to lower the costs, in which case obviously if the costs aren't low now, they would be later on.

Finally, though, is another major point that gets buried in all this rhetoric; bishops were never informed that these weapons would reduce their damage. It is a very big stretch to say that the bishops that are on now represent the population as a whole. Sure, there were insinuations that these were designed for archmages, but nothing specifically said ANYTHING about bishops not being able to use them. That's almost synonymous to assuming that the icy wand was meant for ice mages too (the lvl 21 one). Moost people on this board and elsewhere can't even get the numbering right, and the only real context clue is a seemingly arbitrary coloring scheme that they follow. If they had fixed them from the very beginning, then fine. It's fair to say that this would happen. If they had TOLD US that they would reduce holy damage from the very beginning (without just saying something would be fixed, and without assuming we all know that holy is an element since people still like debating even that), then fine, bishops have no excuse. However, when they intentionally decided NOT to tick the penalty for bishops, then the assumption was that bishops could use them too. I am tired of this vitriol being spiilled here claiming that its a bishop's fault that Nexon's misled them. Not everyone parses the data. Not everyone knows whats going on in other servers. In fact, not everyone OUGHT to know about this stuff, nor is it an obligation on a bishop's part to know these facts about other MSes and how they implement things before purchasing their weapon. We are given what we are given by Nexon, and Nexon didn't specify anything, leading to the situation we have right now. This is the perspective and likely central point you will see with any bishop arguing about this issue, and its one that makes responses like "you deserved it" or any variation thereof extremely callous and selfish.

I can't believe you're even bothering with this pathetic poll. Then again, if you do find this even marginally indicative of a general mood, then I wish you the best of luck in higher level math.

Where are your evidence and logic for this again? Haven't you considered the many people who quit already over the last 3 years due to lack of 4th job and a quick and fun way to level? How many people still create NLs and make it to 140+ without quitting because of how Nexon shafted them in bossing HP?

Tsk tsk, overgeneralizing? Exactly how many people and who still remain from that playerbase?

Maybe if you looked at the evidence and logic presented already more closely instead of dismissing them without logic and evidence to back up your own points, you'd see the same.

At the end of the day, take out the Elemental weapons and ALL mages still level a pomegranate load faster than ALL non mages (4th job).

Lol @ Draconius - Once again I point out that I have an Ice EW ONLY because it was given to me by someone who quit. I still have my 120/16 PW to fall back on and would quite happily do so if I ever have to return the EW. In fact I think my leveling speed is the same regardless of which weapon I use.

It makes all the difference for a lukless Bishop with Gen 30. lol

They probably still deal more damage with a 64 Maple staff than I do with Luk and a 130 EW =P

What does a poll have to do with higher level math? AP Stat, maybe, but I have no plans on taking that.

Let's go off on the more accurate assumption that most bishops buy wands 6 and 8. Their prices go down, and 5 and 7 stay high.

So wands 6 and 8 go down to 200m, and wands 5 and 7 go down to 700 since there are still some bishops who use them and they'll deflate a bit. Now, people have half the insentive to go out and get gacha tickets because there's only half the chance they'll get a really expensive item. When this happens, wands become more rare and the supply goes down, causing a rise in the prices, even with less bishops buying them. Then, the prices rise to 1b wands 5 and 7 and 500m wands 6 and 8. When people see that the prices go up, they'll go out and gacha to get more wands. Since the rate is still pitifully low, the prices don't go down much again. In this way, supply keeps rolling in and Nexon doesn't lose money.

And I agree, it would be a little unfair for Nexon to put in the .75% reduction all of a sudden. However, if Bishops were given fair warning, say a few months, then some would sell them right away and get a decent price on them while others would hold on to them until the reduction kicked in, meaning the smart Bishops would have gotten their money back for the wand.

Another way to do it would be if KMS made elemental weapons that are actually a part of the main weapon line. Like, in the 130 set make an elemental variation of the staff. In my spare time when I get bored of video games, I've thought up what I think would work.
As an example for AM weapons,

130 ice staff
133 luk required
150 MA
+20% damage for ice
+10% damage for lightning
-75% damage to other elements
On level up:
Primary element up 1-3%, secondary up 1-2%, MA up 2-3, INT up 1-2
6 levels
And there's one for each element. For Bishops:

130 holy wand
133 luk required
145 MA
+12% damage for holy
-75% damage for other elements
On Level up:
Holy up 1-2%, MA up 2-3, int up 1-2
6 levels
I intentionally made the holy wand weaker because of a firm belief of mine that Bishops should be weaker. However, I added a weapon that actually gives a holy bonus so Bishops aren't left out cold.

I also made the elements increase on the higher weapons to be at least 1% greater than the 130 wands because of another belief of mine that lukless shouldn't be much stronger than luk Poast

I have two bishops. ChrissieStar is lvl 155, regular build. Because of poor internet, it became too frustrating trying to train her. Since I like bishops, I decided to make a LUKless.

KrysieStar has been a dream to train. Base LUK is 4. At lvl 150, I gached 35 ticked, with the sole intention of trying to get an Ele. It didn’t happen. I didn’t run out and buy one because I just didn’t have the funds. The internet also kept me from bossing, so there were no “splits” coming my way. I gached twice more, solely for merchanting purposes, but always hoping the illusive Ele would come my way. I worked on improving other equips, and still have clean shoes and shield, to work on.

At lvl 175, I found a post in the FM section of another forum. Ele#5 was up for auction. I started biding, never dreaming my limited mesos would be enough to attain it. But, they were! 429,999,999 is what it took for me to own my first Ele wand. There was only one other person bidding against me. Not a lot of demand for it, and the price was certainly right. I scrolled it with 60%. I didn’t want to take a chance it would go boom. 6 out of 7 scrolls landed. I was so happy…end game weapon, maybe. Biggrin

And then I read the comments Eos made about how I would be weaker if they ever changed it to work properly. She very kindly took my stats and showed me how it would affect me. If the elemental effects are adjusted, my damage will be about the same as my lvl 64 Maple Shine Wand. Mad

So, I have to try to be honest with myself about how I will feel if Nexon does this adjustment. In the first place, I knew when I purchased it, the possibility was there for this to happen. Secondly, I feel I bought for a good price. Thirdly, although I always want to improve, I will still have fun without an Ele.

I won’t be happy if I have to take a reduction, but I knew from the start it was a possibility for the future. As for the argument I read about bishops keeping weapons from the class they were designed for, not in this case. It was another bishop bidding against me…no one else was interested. In the mean time, I will continue to train, gain levels, and keep adding all that lovely INT, and maybe the change won’t be such a shock to my system if Nexon ever does the adjustment. And who knows, they may even invent a weapon solely for bishops.

In order to turn my argument against me, we'd have to be arguing comparable concepts. You're making a prediction of the results of an event without anything to back those predictions.

I on the other hand am predicting the status quo will remain virtually unchanged, based on the fact that is has since day one. People come, people go. This is not going to change that. I don't need further proof beyond the fact that the player base has gone through everything it already has. Events happen. People stay. New People come. It all washes out as populations are continually growing, not declining.

You're proclaiming the exact opposite of reality has demonstrated. A Thing will occur and an entire class will quit. That's simply not going to happen. All the people who think like you might quit, but that's hardly a loss from what you've demonstrated thus far.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

Without anything to back those predictions? I have given you evidence already. And you can go look at the rankings and maybe hang out a bit on your server and see how many high leveled Lukless Bishops with Ele Wands are walking about and how few regular Luk ones still remain. Hell, if this wasn't the case and if it wasn't the issue, then according to yours and many others' arguments, prices wouldn't be so high, right? This thread and all you AM's peaching wouldn't have carried on to this level. On my server, just about every Bishop over 15x you see are lukless and with an Ele Wand. Simply put, Luk Bishops will have to suffer twice the training rate for 10-20 levels compared to a Lukless one, that's why there are more of Lukless now than ever before.

Now if you think that Nexon, after over a year of feeding these elemental weapons to these Lukless Bishops, are gonna just take it away from the majorty of these folks and it won't have an impact on the player base and the economy, you are out of your mind.

And again, you're overgeneralizing in your "argument." Oh wait, you've never presented a valid argument thus far. So far everything you've ever said against what I have presented can be boiled down to "it simply won't happen" and "it's in your head" and "your points don't exist" while you continue to deny the obvious outrage the entire 4x larger (Bishop vs AM) community will have against this.

But suppose your argument is sound, you certainly are forgetting the people who left us already. New people do come indeed, and population do seem to grow on the surface. But that all is irrelevant to how many people actually stay. How come Broa FM maxes out in FM ch. 1 rooms 1-19 and ch. 2 rooms 1-4 and then the occasional ch. 3 room 1? It has been like this for 2 years now, yo! Population on the increase? Or simply registered characters on the increase with people coming and going due to lack of continued interest of this game?

Status quo since day 1? I'll tell you what it has really been like the last 4 years.

When Maple started out, it was almost an even number of class distributions.

Then soon people realized that ranged leveled faster than non ranged, and warriors decreased, with the exception of Spearman since Dragon Knights were the most powerful 3rd job class.

Then Maple Weapons were released. This shifted emphasis of class distribution to the thieves and mages. More and more people created dexless sins and Lukless mages since their Maple weapons and character attributes allowed them to use those Maple Weapons as end-game weapons, whereas warrior and archers benefitted more from a regular build. Warriors took on being dexless with the ever-increasing variety of scrolls for DEX, whereas archers had to stick to how they have been if they wanted to maximize their damage end-game.

Then stronger bosses such as Pap and Pianus were released. This made many of the ranged class bandwagon (which was far more primarily focused on sins instead of archers now) disband due to the constant dependence of Hyber Body. At the same time, more and more warriors started to pop up too.

Then HP wash was discovered to be a possible solution (actual discovery as a whole was a bit earlier), and this revived the ranged class for a bit among the rich.

Skipping ahead, then 4th job was released. This suddenly increased the general consensus that Mages are the way to go for leveling, and thus, began the Bishop bandwagon since they were cheaper and also have HS.

At the same time, this killed the warrior job almost entirely as the majority of those warrior Dark Knights realized how crappy of a class they were compared to others. With only a few Dark Knights pressing onward and the few Heros and Paladins that picked up the warrior class to begin with, that shapes your warrior class today. The rest of the Dragon Knights quit.

With Horntail boss released, ranged classes are realizing in increased numbers how unfair this game has become, and that's why it has been increasingly harder to find new ranged folks in general and especially for Horntail runs, because you only have a handful left who were the rich and who stuck it out.

So you are left with a huge population of mages, which most of are Bishops. And since Bishops tend to be richer in general compared to AM due to their inherently lower MP costs due to lack of Amp and their Holy Symbol, they are the richer ones selling leech and gaining far more profits and obtaining the elemental wands.

Take away the elemental wands of this dominating class now, and based on history, this class will die out in great numbers.

Nexon knows this, and that's why they've kept these things around the way they have been for the past year. Because if out goes the Bishops then out goes the trainers and players who will keep playing at 2%/hour. That means out goes the NX and bye bye to the majority of your current high leveled population who train with Bishops. It's why they've been so hush hush and careful about all this.

That is your MS population today. Status quo has remained constant? I think not. Here's the evidence countering your argument. I seriously hope you take it with a grain of salt and not just dismiss it and say it's moot like everything else I've said thus far.

And just for kicks, I'm gonna end this argument like how you end yours:

A large number of existing Bishop players with Ele Wands will quit if Nexon implements this "fix" so late right now. It simply will happen.

Oh, and here's a random fact and irony. The 4th job warrior instructor, Harmonia, is actually a Bishop (If you're a warrior and have read and paid attention to your skills' quest chains, you will know this too).

MysticHLE Wrote:Take away the elemental wands of this dominating class now, and based on history, this class will die out in great numbers.

And also based on your history, another class will rise in prominence to replace as the current "In" class, just like Pirates have done to Thieves in general. Those people don't actually "quit", they just discard the character because the class is no longer what they wanted it to be.

Equilibrium is maintained because the approximate volume of players remains, the distribution is the only factor that alters, and that's pretty much irrelevant.

At this point your argument is borders on a conspiracy theory on Nexon's part. Since it's clear our fundamental view of reality is too diametrically opposed for us to reach anything approaching a consensus here, I'm just going to acknowledge we can not and do not agree and call this discussion done between us. We can revisit what actually changes if/when they put it in and one of us can do an "I told you so" then, if it makes you feel better.

Well, to throw my little vote in, I picked number four. Every other version of the game that has these things has them working the same way, so it's only reasonable to expect that ours should be fully and properly implemented, which at the moment they are not.

I'll be honest and state, for the record, that I am jealous of the extreme leveling potential Bishops have even without these broken weapons. However, that's just the way the game is, and if I really wanted to level that fast I'd have to make a Bishop myself. This would take me at least another year, so I won't do it. Tongue With the current half-assed elemental weapons, they gain even more power. Rolleyes So, yeah, I'd like them to be fixed.

One problem Nexon may have with fixing them would be that, if they admitted there is a problem with these weapons, then every Bishop who has used one is suddenly guilty of violating the Terms of Use, by exploiting a design flaw for personal gain. They would then have to decide, as with the broken Bigfoot, whether to punish these people somehow or just let them slide. They'd probably do nothing, but it's still a question that might arise.

What...lol?

How could Nexon punish Bishops for "Exploiting a Glitch" when they don't even know that it is a glitch in the first place? It doesn't say anywhere on the weapons that these weapons were not intended to be used by Bishops and they have continued to work without penalty for the past ten months.

You guys talk about this "Glitch" as if it's only been around for a few days. I am not sure why Nexon is not fixing this glitch but I can guarantee you it's not because they don't know about it. It's been ten months and there is no way that the Nexon does not see all of the heated discussions surrounding this issue on these forums and even their own forums.

Bigfoot is different, it's pretty obvious you aren't supposed to be able to Poison a Boss with 32,000,000 HP, however, I still think it was wrong for Nexon to ban people for their own mistake and I think they realized their own mistake with the community backlash for all the "wrongful bans".

We can revisit what actually changes if/when they put it in and one of us can do an "I told you so" then, if it makes you feel better.

...when a character is discarded we say that they've quit the character, in some cases the game altogether, while in other cases they pick up a new class to bandwagon on. Judging by the amount of buddies and guildies who have quit this game altogether and the amount of new people I meet, and taking into consideration that FM has not expanded for the past 2 years or so, this equilibrium of population is maintained in light of people actually quitting the game along with those who join it new.

And thus my initial point is finally proven that a great deal will quit and that the distribution will change, causing a huge economic shift of the game and it being heavily impacted, which paves the road nicely for draconius to argue his points.

This new "in" class will be the AMs - so they can be more regarded and taken to bosses and be more useful - of which I clearly say is fundamental to your and all the other AMs postings' conspiracy behind all this fuss after 10 months. Rolleyes

Let's leave it at that, since many of you AMs are going to just argue that it's for the sake of fixing a glitch and I will argue that I think otherwise, and there would be no point to try to prove conspiracy theories of AMs and Nexon, although it would be fun too. Biggrin

eos367 Wrote:It has, but the "They can never change it or the WORLD WILL END OH NOES" camp keeps throwing out the mass numbers of people who will quit if Nexon fixes them as their "trump".

Curiousity overcame me. Still not seeing those masses.

Maybe, just maybe, everyone will shrug like the abused housewife they are, suck up another bruise and keep on Mapling "cause I know he loves me". Rolleyes

Not everyone has a bishop character, and that's partly why most of the poll suggests that people don't care.

Saying that, you're right, most of the bishop population likely won't quit if this change was implemented. But just because they don't quit, does it mean that it's a good thing to implement? Does it mean that a large number of bishops will just "shrug it off"? Does it mean that it won't dissatisfy most of the bishop population?

Personally, I wouldn't quit because of this change, but I wouldn't like the change much. An another note besides damage, I like how the elemental weapons look Smile (compared to the other wands/staves that maple has to offer).

Wrong Thread. This is a vote about what you would do in response, not the issue itself. That's over here.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

I can't tell if you're being serious or not :f6:

But if there are any Archmages who think this will be a benefit or result of having the ele weapons fixed... YOU'RE DELUSIONAL! :f6:

AMs will never be the "in class."
But no, I wouldn't quit. I suck either way so it doesn't really matter to me.

I have read every post in this thread, an hour to do it but that's cause I didn't log on to post my own posts o-o

I hope they change it, everyday (lol) I hope. I do not care about the training speed of my arch mage. I care about the damage. My friend was doing a zak run and I asked if I could go, he said no. I asked why, he replied "it's not my fault you picked a mage." I was appalled, he didn't insult me, he didn't call me weak because my damage was mediocore. He said I was weak because I picked a mage. Sickening really. (Shout out to Barsark) Goggleemoticon

I made a thread many moons ago about that KMS or JMS or WhateverMS arch mage training at cornians. That video is why I still play my mage, I could have stripped him along time ago for a spearman, hunter, bandit, assassin but, I don't. I hope that they Obama the elemental wands (yes Obama them) not to reduce bishops' damage, because I could honestly careless how fast Mr. Heal@bosses levels. He can level as fast as he wants but, at a boss, he'll just heal. I want to do damage, I know full well it will never be close to the best but, I want to do some damage to seem sort of useful when weapon immunity is buffed at HT and Zakum. I like to feel useful, not being useful is why I didn't make a paladin. (Sorry MysticHLE)

I hate using blizzard to mindlessly gain levels but, once again I do what i must. If they ever "fix" the wands and staffs (I think its staves but i dont know) I just want a lightning one to go and kill cornians with my level 7 ID and maxed Ifrit. Looks like fun Smile

All in all, just give us archs our boost and we'll stop whining, for the most part. x]

I believe that was just a side note made. I'm more curious as to why, instead of responding to the post, you just basically told him/her to get out?

And this has really gone on for too long. BOTH sides are right, but wrong at the same time. There's a middle ground to reach. Why not stop bickering and discuss it instead of arguing? (It sounds like arguing and back-and-forth he-said/she-said to me.)

I'm a bishop without an EW. I want an ele wand. However, if the change is implemented, I would sell it and go on with a loss of mesos. Because, yes, the prices would fluctuate as suddenly a certain class would not be using it anymore. However, I would go own with my life. I'm barely 134, and yeah, I know it'll be tough to ohko skeles, but in all actuality I don't need that to have fun. I like damage, and ohko would help me sell leech and help my friends/guildies more, but it's not necessary. I wouldn't be estactic, but I wouldn't quit.

However, that's not to say that others wouldn't quit. I know a couple friends that would quit, and I don't like that. While I want the wands fixed for the sake of accuracy, I don't want my friends to quit. So I don't really want to choose. And it's up to Nexon in the end really.

There WILL be an effect. Every action has a reaction, and one must always consider the consequences of one's actions. That's not to say it will end the game, but it will have an effect, and disappoint quite a few of ms's 1 million plus customers. Not just bishops, but merchanters too.

So there, that's the input from me hoping to close the gap here. I can't remember all I wanted to type, but here's what wasn't forgotten.

And yeah, I feel the same way that those that put up the suggestion for a wand for bishops. It's a good idea, and if they imiplemented it at the same time as fixing the EW's, then even though EW prices would go down, people wouldn't have TOO much to gripe about. Merchanters would, but prices are always affected, so I'm sure they'll shrug it off like they did when a lot of other items went down in price.

If I missed something, feel free to remind me. I'm absent minded. Frown
