When is the former better to use in general over the latter? Mine's only level 1, and although it's damage per attack is on par (i think) and has way more range, SSK still beats it in charging energy because of more monsters hit and it's much faster.
Opinions?

SSK only works for charging energy when you have mobs directly in front of you. The "dragon dancing" is still better for chargin energy than even SSK in places like newties, himes, and skeles dungeon. For gobies, SSK beats out dragon strike lvl 1.

Somewhere around level 11 is when it'd replace SSK, because you must also consider the speed of the casting animation. Roughly in the time it takes to do one Dragon Strike, you can easily do 2 SSKs.
2 SSKs = 2,280% damage
At level 11, Dragon Strike is 5 x 475% = 2,375% damage.
Just hang in there until level 124. For me, I didn't take SSK off my keyboard until around 125-127, when it clearly outdamaged SSK in raw damage.
You'll get the hang of Dragon Dancing. I practiced a prototype version of it before the changes by using it to mob all the Himes to one side by using CSB -> turn the other way -> Dragon Strike -> CSB -> SSK -> Repeat. I get hit a lot because of bad timing, but it also forced me to react better, to time better when I can Dragon Strike after CSB. You'll also be able to make slight adjustments.
