Discovered somewhat of a surprise today:


You know how shadow partner usually does 50% of what the other two stars do?
Sudden attack (2nd job skill, 130% damage of next attack out of darksight) boosts not only the L7 damage, but it also makes shadow partner do 65% damage (when maxed) instead of 50% of what L7 does. Mine doesn't do 65% because my sudden attack isn't maxed.

80% for normal attack, 50% for all star-based skills (L7, TT, avenger)

65% is the mean of 50% and 80%, might have something to do with that? Like sudden attack boosting damage based on normal attacks rather than skills.

No, it has to do with Sudden Attack being +30% which is halved to +15% for Shadow Partner.

Wait, I'm confused.

One would think that Shadow Partner "inherits" the 130% from sudden attack; that is, instead of doing 100%-50%, it gets 1.3x'd into 130%-65%.

But in your screenshot, it shows the top two stars doing more than half the bottom two. Even if the 1.3 was simply inherited, the top two would still be doing half the bottom two, since 65% is half of 130%..

Unless the top two stars are actually doing 130%*65% = 84.5% of the original (pre-Sudden Attack) damage.

Seems like 60.5% based on the picture, and Arrg already said that her sudden attack wasn't maxed. That means her unmaxed sudden attack is just 21% instead of the 30% it would be if it were maxed.

Indeed, like stated before, my sudden attack isn't maxed, and it's 121%, so the bonus is somewhere around 60% instead of 65.
I'm maxing sudden attack after i get TT, i'm saving the sp for that currently.

I never understood why Night Walkers got Sudden Attack...

Getting into Dark Sight (Sudden Attack activation) + 1x Attacking = Same time it takes to attack 2 times...

Attacking 2x = 2x the damage
Attacking 1x with Sudden Attack = 1.3x the damage...

And inside Dark Sight you can't use flash jump... so you would train slower...

So besides high damage for screenshots, I don't know where Sudden Attack could be usefull for... It's not like Night Walkers have some sort of slowish ultra high damage attack (Like Assassinate for Shadowers).

First hit, using while climbing ropes, going between monsters.
Also you can fj, but it brings you out of darksight.

70 more luk at lvl 70, mob skill in 2nd job, FJ in 2nd job, poison in 3rd job (amazing way to train), and TT at 100, then venom at 110, and echo of hero at 120.
So yea, nothing much.
