LF> GIF Animator
#1
GIF images are covered by patents and shyts, and the animated GIFs even more so. That means they'll ultimately cost money =(

I want a free program that lets me compile animated images without introducing artifacts or watermarks to it just because the software is a trial version or w/e. I'm not sure if the ones in the Fourth Job Skill Tables thread are made from purchased software or free software, but I want something like those as opposed to this (look at the top). Are there any out there? xD

The program I used was free and not free at the same time. I'm sure you get the gist.

Actually, the patents have expired, so it's possible for free software to create animated GIFs.

Wikipedia says that GIMP can create animated GIFs, but someone else may know of other programs or you could use your google fu.

I used microsoft gif animator like 6 years ago.

Allowed you to set the timing between each frame and set invisibility...

unFREEz: Very simple program, drag & drop files into the frame list and click a button.

Personally I'd use APNGedit and just say pineapple you to the IE/Chrome users. I'm not doing it for some business, I don't need to care about the whole population. Rolleyes

GIF Movie Gear and Animation Shop 3 both offer trial versions that don't watermark images. However the latter is more easy to use.

Part of the reason why I made this thread is because I didn't feel like downloading countless programs only to find out that they either suck and/or scar my work. Recommendations from people are a fairly good way to go, I figured.

That won't work for my purposes =( Even though I don't use Chrome and IE phails and crashes on all of the computers I use xD

I guess I'll look at Animation Shop 3 then.

EDIT: Even though unFREEz has performed horribly for me in the past, I guess it wins out of all these nominations >_> Thanks Russt.

i remember using Animation Shop 3 because it came with a version of Paint Shop Pro i got, it was just the trial but it was very easy to use, basically just right clicking to add frames and you could paste in new images and stuff. Had a similar interface to PSP also. And i got Microsoft GIF Animator, its fail...

Does it HAVE to be a .gif-file?

Are there any other file formats that support animated images AND be viewable across multiple browser platforms?

Not without extensions. Er, lol. .swf? xD

Anyway, I used ImageReady from the Photoshop-pack. CS2, that is. I found that efficient enough, but I can't really say it's badass awesome compared to animated .png.

What's so bad about Microsoft GIF Animator? Works great for everything except fade-out effects, and doesn't lag or freeze like some do...

Anyway, you can also use GIMP to do it, if you download the animation package. (GIMP GAP) I think it has to do with converting layers to frames, but I've never tried it out. Here's a tutorial, though.

The new animations are made via libgd.

Yes, a library.

It's all automated now; no tedious aligning or scripting pomegranate

You mean creating animated GIFs from static pics (png\bmp\jpg) or creating GIFs from movies?

Or you can use ones like GiftedMotion. Free and barebones. But not too barebones.

I also have a private animator for the WZs that animates them into GIFs:

That doesn't look like the original tbh. Mainly, the sky-high aura thing looks fugly and out of place.

That's the .gif limit: 256 different colours.

.mng-animations should be supported in all browsers. Then I'd be happy.

So? My source images were 256 .png, and I don't see a reason why a 256 .gif would have to be less than ideal quality. (lossless compressions ftw!) Actually 256 is truecolor if you're using 24-bit pixels. I'm not about to give a shyt about some supposed .gif limit if I can produce something closer to the original; something probably went wrong in translation. The one I managed to produce is .gif and it doesn't have any artifacts in it. I do have MW on my Paladin btw, so I do know what it looks like.

Also, MapleStory images are in 256 32-bit pixels.

Srry if I sound mean, but I really like perfection xD
