In the Youtube news report, the analyst said that Miss California was the clear favorite as she was ahead after all the events except for questioning. I have no idea how the pagent works so... yeah...according to the newscast on youtube, she was supposed to win (allegedly).
Also, is it possible to say that you dont want to answer a question and ask for a new one?

"With today's society preaching individual thinking, this question really is full of controversy. No matter how I answer the question, someone's going to hate me for it. However, I'm not afraid of thinking differently from the popular view. I am well aware that many people in the audience today believe something different from what I believe in, but I was raised in a society that holds the belief that marriage should only be limited to men and women. I have examined this problem for myself, and found that marriage really is a question of religion. Two people can get along perfectly forever without getting married. Marriage is merely a definition taken out of the Bible, and since we're really just following a prescription from a "holy book", I think that it should stick to it's original definition, the one taken out of the Bible."
Now think about this guys. With this answer, Harrison might be Miss USA 2010!

Let's say, in a court trial, the judge asks you if you want to take the lie detector test to prove your innocence, and you decline the offer. Now people would ask themselves, "are you just afraid that the lie detector test because it will prove your guilt?"
Likewise, if she asks for the new question, people might say that she's just doing that cuz she really is too dumb to answer, which proves she is unworthy of the pageant.

*Points at Fiel's post* There's no "correct" way to answer the question. Compared to the walk in the park questions everyone else got, she did get jipped.
The lie detector analogy isnt very accurate to the situation because its fair; if you pass it, then you're innocent. This question wasnt fair to begin with and that's why I threw out there whether it was possible to get a new one.
Harrison for Miss USA 2010!

I just want to add my thoughts quickly -- not on gay marriage, but on Miss California's statement itself.
She did not lose because of the question she was asked. She could have tactfully dodged it, much like one of the other women (I don't remember which one ... Arizona, I think?) completely dodged her question. The questions were actually fairly challenging (except ONE ... I don't remember who's, but it was...retarded)...they weren't the standard, "ZOMG WHAT DO U WANT?" "WORLD PEACE!" crap, though I burst out laughing when I heard Miss North Carolina's sploo about how we should use bailout money for education... very typical!
Anyway, on to my real point. The reason why I think she lost? Because this was her speech:
“Well, I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be between a man and a woman. Thank you very much.”
Opposite marriage.
OPPOSITE MARRIAGE.
Sorry, that just about killed it for me. And the way she responded? She sounded hilarious. I mean, really, she should have had the intelligence to dodge it and/or answer more intelligently. Miss North Carolina's answer, while pretty basic and not very thoughtful, was at least thoughtfully put.
Believe it or not, this pageant is supposed to create an "American Role Model". They're looking for women that kind of exemplify all the good qualities...beauty, brains. Prejean simply didn't cover half of it. Plus her dress was ugly.
Also, to anyone wondering why on earth I watched this... uh, let's just leave it at a mysterious sequence of strange events. 8D

Anyway, to stay on-topic: I thought about it, but actually beauty contests are full of discrimination itself, you discriminate all "not so beautifull" people who participate by not letting them win the contest.
So the point of "she's being discriminated because of her belief", stands together with the fact that all the not-winning girls in that contest are being discriminated against because of their looks...
My personal conclusion: Beauty contests are retarded...

After reading her complete response, it's easy to conclude that she did not think about her question before answering it. Poor wording and a lack of thoughtfulness is a good reason to lose, in my opinion.
Yes, her question was more difficult, but if she had answered it well, that would make her stand out that much more. That's the beauty of challenges, the harder the challenge, the more people are inspired if you complete it. Likewise, she lost this part of the competition, but was still awarded runner up. If she had been given an easier question and still bombed it, she would not have gotten runner up. That's my thoughts on the matter.

Devil also doesn't know what "red herring" is, but don't tell him that.

Yeah, lol. I don't really understand why the hxc gay community is attacking her statement--I mean, it is the belief of some that marriage SHOULD be sanctioned between man and woman, but still support civil unions and whatnot. It's not the first time it's happened...and these people aren't gonna change their minds overnight, and she should be respected for her opinion.
But...
She just sounded hilarious. Dur hur.

People will be opinion-based till the end of time. Nothing is new about that. The day our country recognizes equality for every person in the U.S. will be one of the happiest days of my lives. It might not happen right away (actually i'm positive it won't happen right away), but it will happen.
Just gotta have faith......and lots of patience.
