[Notice/GM Blog]We are Family!
LongShotJohn Wrote:I personally would love to see the monster book here. And I greatly agree with Issac on it's usefulness compared to this family thing.

I love the RPG genre, and quite frankly, I think that a good portion of those who play MS are the same. So what is there to an RPG? There's levels and stats, sure, but often times there is far more than that. There's a story, exploration, finding out about the setting (background story), questing, and collecting.

Honestly, the monster book adds to all 3 of those last ones, and if you're bored from grinding, it would even add to exploration to the list as well. But then, I suppose today's market is altering what an RPG is. People who play games aren't as patient as they used to be and expect the action and cool stuff "Now, Now, Now!" Personally it makes me sad that I've seen the death of the explorable world map in many modern RPGs.

But then, I suppose this makes me behind the times and therefore my reasoning of the book being a great addition is invalid, right?

Not at all, at least not in my opinion. Story is always good, I was just saying how this patch doesn't fail as badly as people think it does. Then again, Isaac above just corrected me, and it seems that, while it's still good to have for those that need it, it's not as useful as I thought. You only get 2x once a day, so I guess you could just train 30min a day. That's a nice... slow as hell pace. But yeah...

I want all the patches, but I don't think we can really argue with Nexon once they've made up their mind. Sure, we can, like I've done, throw out suggestions for the next patch, but it's ultimately up to them...

I personally want the new balrog with the rest of the updates, and our version would give exp upon death. Glitter

Isaac, can you get 1 2x drop AND exp once per day, or just 1 or the other?

IsaacGS Wrote:I gotta say this though, you only get 1 family 2x a day, so that's a maximum of 30 minutes per day. You can't just use other peoples' cause it won't work any more.

only using it once a day doesn't mean only receiving it once a day. there's no limit on receiving family buffs.

Takebacker Wrote:Why did you quit GMS again? Jw.

I quit gMS because me and several of my friends (from gMS! wow!) decided to try out jMS for the content and to try to learn a bit of a new language. I went to kMS because of jMS' IP ban. no need to be sarcastic about something you've never asked about.

Takebacker Wrote:It is actually pretty hard. Sharing is a pretty hard concept when it comes to training and money for GMS. You can find decent people, but that doesn't mean they won't be assholes and not share something that will let them train faster even though you got it for them.

why wouldn't they share it? another example I forgot to bring up is that if the elder shares his family 2x EXP with his junior, he'll get double the family points. which means more 2x EXP for him. people who don't share would be hurting themselves just as much as others.

What I think Isaac corrected me on, was that if you receive a family 2x that day, you can't get it again, even if it's from another family member. Frown

No. Like blitzkrieg said, only using it once a day doesn't mean you can only receive it once a day.
You can receive 2x from any person that has a family - that person doesn't even have to be in your family. Technically you could receive 48 2x a day lol.

Ah, really? I was under the impression you could only get the 2x block once per day period, regardless of whether it was yours or someone else's.

That does make it seem a bit better, but I'm still pretty pessimistic about it in GMS. I mean, since it's coming regardless, I hope it works out, but i just can't shake the feeling it's going to be misused.

Really?

In that case, disregard that i suck cock. Goggleemoticon

Huh? What sarcasm? That was a serious question. :/ All this talk about how stupid GMS is made me remember why justin quit GMS, and i got curious as to why you did.

lol okay, sorry. it seemed like you were saying something like "didn't you leave because the community sucked to begin with?" or something.

Takebacker Wrote:Really? :f6: Never heard about that before. Maybe they will then.

well yeah. family points are based on your percent gain which is doubled when you're using 2x EXP lol.

I'm not that desperate to prove my case. Kiss Can't deny that a lot of english community players left for that reason though. :f6:

o.o Oh. I thought you meant you get points for spending it on others or something.

About monster book, I'm pretty sure Nexon's just lazy with translating the monster descriptions. Family system was probably desgined to get higher-leveled players to help out lower-leveled players, but now, I see it as a feature to facilitate more leeching >_>

Yeah, I guess I started that one... Eek

Oh well. So you CAN get it from another family? Pretty nifty again then. Out of morbid curiosity, will there be a new chat channel solely for the family? Ones where you can talk directly to your immediate family, making it even more a reason to only be a family of friends.

TJ/Blitzkreig is right about how much, when I was training my flame mage, we would meet up at least 4 times a day in the FM for 2x

Nope, sadly no chat Sad
I hope for a chat already since the implemention of the family system in kms.

I've read all 6 pages of this thread yet I still don't get what this is or how it works. All I got was: Family Points; rewards; warp and 2x; broken.

Still confuzzled. Goggleemoticon

IMO, yeah I see that the family system in KMS is easily abused as heck, but being that the KMS community isn't as whore-ish as GMS's community, I'd think that wouldn't be THAT much of a problem in KMS.

Now if it's gonna come here... of course it's gonna bring more hell than heaven for the majority of Maplers. I can see the smegas popping up now and the drama ensuing that involves that system. Not to mention because of the benefits that it offers, I have a feeling NexonAM will nerf the system (maybe removing the 2x buffs or increasing the points needed for them greatly or something) to the point that it'll be worthless for a complete different reason.

But I guess the system is only fun if you form one with friends... which is something I'd probably do.

Would either be horrible or just confusing or pretty pointless...

1) chat to all members of family no matter how many links away -> worse than guild/alliance chat
2) only chat to your "children" or "parents" -> confusing for your grandchildren/grandparents
3) only chat with people at the same level as you -> same as spouse chat

This system seems interesting, yeah, but about monster book, the idea behind it is exactly my idea of the game:

Do whatever you feel like, and keep record.

I go hunt some aliens? Well! I might get a card!
I get bored? Why not try to fill the first page with ALL cards?
Let's hunt this boss! He might drop a card and all!
I'll redo this quest... Or help this buddy on his. Might even get a card after all.

Look at my signature. I have more than ONE THOUSAND goblins ready to be summoned when this comes. I find no fun in a game that makes you feel like you only have to be at a particular place, or else you loose your time.

I would hope though, that the GM'S of GMS (lol) would continue making unique content for their version of ms.

I highly doubt they'll really change the system, but we might get some new rewards to earn. Maybe some gach tickets or safety charms, etc.
It'd be stretching it to ask for the ultimate reward to be able to summon a boss/monster or create any summoning bag you want at any time, as long as you have the points.

I'd implement it though. Goggleemoticon

Edit: I'd also put it a possible way to, after a LONG time, (Or they'd lose money of course.) earn a wedding ticket.

Can someone please, put the family systems meaning into simplier terms so I can figure what it is about, and what it is for??

I still don't quite understand how this family thing works, but

1) I really don't like pyramid schemes.

2) I don't see why the benefits can't be incorporated in the current guild system. We can have guilds accumulating "guild points" for people levelling or completing quests, and using those points to benefit the whole guild. For example, "guild 2x" - no question of sharing or not.
This would still encourage leeching, and the creation of mule accounts that are quickly levelled and then deleted, but at least it will also help real new players to get into guilds and be helped with their training.

You could just take Issac's words for it: "Slave system" Tongue

Orit has a point though, however wouldn't that mean that there would have to be a separate system in place considering that GP's only use is determining GPQ ranks?
