[Notice] The Truth about Private Servers

I think ranting about Nexon's suckage may be beside the point, at this point. Nexon has a business model in mind, they're getting $$$ off it and though they are VERY clearly aware of a lot of players being unsatisfied with their performance in a lot of things, they still get $$$.

Do what I did. Tell them "fuuck you" in the one language they do understand, with your wallet. Quit Maple, find a better game, buy its version of NX. Or go Outside: that new MMORPG that all of us have been missing.

We want your money. Private servers don't make us money. We don't like private servers. Play the official servers. Your service is crappy, but you wouldn't want to do anything illegal, now, will you?

P.S. I don't think any other MMORPGs have private servers at all. So why should ours? Oh... oops o.o I guess they do.

Actually i think runescape did sue and lost, so they can't do anything against PSs. It was either runescape or some other MMO. I'm probably wrong.

There are several dozen MMOs that have private servers, other than MapleStory. To name some:

WoW
Ragnarok
FlyFF
Runescape (as noted before)
Gunz Online
Gunbound

That is true. Private servers tend to have disastrous service. Not to mention that most of the private servers are more after your wallet than the fun that comes from slashing monsters for hours.
They usually set up some kind of bonus for donators, and then several months later *POOF*, the server evanesces!

Nexon is quite like any company or organisation; after your wallet! You're going to see it anywhere.

If anyone has looked at the MapleStory Top 100 list, every server is getting DMCA'd left and right. Seems like Nexon is finally taking action.

Yeah, it sort of made me lol. Especially some things written under each server.

Sorry for the small bump but if i remember corectly writing an emulator is totally legal.
None of Nexon code is in for instance Odin. What is illegal is the player to use all .wz files to log in into that emulator, but if you could also emulated .wz client files with your own artwork etc... it'd be just fine.
From a strict legal point of vue, nexon is bound to lose the trial just like runescape. There is no single example so far of a private server beeing legaly suit and lost, on the other hand there's a lot of example of pservers beeing shut down by intimidation because the company knows those kids can't afford a trial.
