I wont complain about leeching itself, but about some thing that i think has changed in MS and i could blame to leeching. Back, when i played my warrior I remember how i would train at vikings, grims, and eventually squids and gobies, playing for hours in a party, meeting new people, chatting and other stuff. Even after passing over lvl 15x, I wouldn't mind training that way for hours. Because all that was fun. I remember back, before 4th was released in GMS, i saw a vid of ppl training at red wyverns, as at vikings, splitting the map by platforms, 1 per member, with a priest buffing, and being very excited about it. little i knew that would never happen here. You can go to any of those maps and find them empty. In exception of Newties and SKeles, you can go anywhere in leafre or Vikings, Grims, Gobies, Squids and find no one. Either it's empty or there's just a 4th magician soloing it. There's no way to find a party, not even along my guild/alliance. ALl i see now are tons of Smegas saying "S> leech"/ "B> leech" People nowadays doesn't train anymore, they just hang on a rope until they're very high lvl and then do it once again.

It's just that not until 4th job happened that paid leeching existed. I used to leech two of my friends at wolf spiders by using poison mist on the map and that would provide a source of entertainment as I could talk to them to pass the time. byakugan Wrote:Back, when i played my warrior I remember how i would train at vikings, grims, and eventually squids and gobies, playing for hours in a party, meeting new people, chatting and other stuff. You can't be satisfied there now that there is a better training map. Human jealousy will deem those maps unusable. byakugan Wrote:I remember back, before 4th was released in GMS, i saw a vid of ppl training at red wyverns, as at vikings, splitting the map by platforms, 1 per member, with a priest buffing, and being very excited about it. little i knew that would never happen here.Nope. That happened the first two weeks. Then it gradually declined, as people realized that the maximum efficiency was in the Newties and Skeles map. Maple does take quite a while to level up, so I can see why people want that maximum efficiency. byakugan Wrote:You can go to any of those maps and find them empty. The magicians only go to maps that mob well. byakugan Wrote:ALl i see now are tons of Smegas saying "S> leech"/ "B> leech"I haven't seen one of those smegas in a while, so I wouldn't know what you're talking about. Most leechers just go to the map they want to leech in and cc to ask. Therefore, I call BS on this statement.

Nice contradiction in the first part of your post. That's how you define playing. Why are you letting leechers bother you? If your neighbors are having sex and you're at home fapping dying of being a virgin, do you go and complain about it? Leechers are just getting exp on a rope, not bothering you in any way. While they may take up a map, they found it empty and so can you. When leafre mini dungeons come out, this is a moot point. Edit: And didn't allie make a remark with you being so anti-leech and "Games are meant to be played" when she said something like "I find it funny how you're like this when you hacked another character up. Aren't games meant to be played?"

Unfortunately, in most cases, leechers ARE bothering someone else. The monsters they leech off of also happen to be popular training spots. Having a leecher there makes a map that can support 3-4 people into a two-player map. They also tend to stay for longer than the average player, in blocks of 4 hours each. And yes, I've "tried" Scania. And Windia is just as bad. =\ LaLaaLove Wrote:Unfortunately, in most cases, leechers ARE bothering someone else. This is patently absurd - most leechers are piggybacking off people who would already be in that map for that period and take up the exact same number of mobs whether they have a leech hanging on the rope or not.

I don't think Harps and Windraiders are good enough EXP that AMs would go there if they didn't need to in order to leech lower level characters...
Not to mention that the 10m/hr pays for pots, without that they might spend less time full-out blasting away. byakugan Wrote:I wont complain about leeching itself, but about some thing that i think has changed in MS and i could blame to leeching. The funny thing is, I've noticed this, too. I think it's a combination of leeching and more solo-friendly maps (ex. Windraiders) being released for early third job (so people don't learn how to party and when they need to, they decide to just leech instead). It was the worst right before MP3 was released, when I was trying to train at DTs/MDTs and nobody wanted to... Well, at least MP3 encourages partying somewhat. Being a priest it's been very hard for me to find parties. Pretty much the only place people want an 8x or 9x priest these days is Himes, and that's usually only two people, and then the channels are always full, and if your attackers can't get a map, they'll just go off and solo somewhere instead. When I get to 105, I can go leech-HS at Newties with a party of 4th jobbers who actually know what partying is... Yay? The bad thing about partying people always much higher-leveled than you is that it makes for less friendly competition, more guilt (feeling like a gold-digger of sorts), more awkwardness, more of one of you outleveling the training place and not the other... Meh. I'm struggling with 3rd job and it's not that I don't like it, it's that I can't find anyone to party with most of the time. x_X Try going to ch1 Ludi to look for a party these days... You'd be lucky to find something besides a Pap party at anything but peak times, and then good luck finding a map.

Mardia almost never has AMs at either of those locations. For that matter we almost never have anyone at Harps, unless they're being leeched by a lowbie bishop. They rarely leave newties because we can get the same pay there, plus actually gain XP.

Here's things from my perspective...
I'm stuck soloing for 5mil exp an hour at CG which is the best solo exp I've found...a Bishop I know gets around 30mill an hour at Skelys while leeching his lv 153 Corsair which gets 16mil an hour...there's no way I can get close to that kind of exp, yet a leeching char gets 3x the exp I get. He said he going to get his Bishop to lv 200 (he's a crazy fast leveler) and in the process his Corsair will get to about lv 180, when he's reached lv 200...just from leeching. Makes no sense that a leecher gets waaaay faster exp than someone who is actively training... What a broken game Maple is.

Chameleonic Wrote:Here's things from my perspective... I guess you won't party a mage will you? Seriously what don't people get? Mages have the fastest training speed and the worse bossing damage. As your training speed is reduced, your bossing speed is increased. That's how mages and other classes balance out..... Is that so hard of a concept to understand? Shadowers have the 2nd fastest lvling speed, and the 2nd worse DPS. NLs and BMs are the single target rapers, and I hear all the time how slow they level. Pallys...... I'll admit that pallys need some work (or we need elementally weak bosses). A leecher gets faster exp than someone who's actively training because they're with the fastest trainers in the game. It's the same way with bossing.... if the bishop/mage sits and does nothing, as long as they're with good attackers, the boss is going to die faster than if the bishop/mage was actively attacking without a bosser with them. It works on both sides of the coin. I heard you say somewhere earlier that if you had a 1000 attack pendant that you wouldn't be able to train as fast as a mage. Dude..... if you wanted only to train fast and nothing else, then you picked the wrong class. If you want to solo rather than party the fastest lvlers in the game, then that's your own dilemna. Then i hear this crap from people "If you party a mage that makes you a leecher". That's a load of bull. Partying a mage doesn't make you a leecher, it makes you smart. If you pay em 10m an hour so you can afk on a rope, then that makes you a leecher.

I'm sure he probably would if he could find someone to fit his schedule, which is very difficult at times. Or if he could find someone not busy leeching people, wanting to party a different class, etc.

Hell.... 1/4 of my entire guild is bishops, and we have over 120+ members. There's more mages/bishops in this game than any other class and he plays in one of the most populated servers. It's more complaining/jealousy than common sense, and I see that type of thing way too often.

In like a month, does anyone ever hear about some level 200s or some other people? No.

There are people, myself included, that do like just training at monsters that give lower EXP if it is more fun than the higher EXP stuff. I tend to rotate between something like 8 training spots. If I could still get into goby parties, that's where I'd still be training most of the time. As for leeching, I don't agree with it, I think that it takes from the idea of the game. It gives the archmages/ bishops an easy way of making mesos, yet a large number of them still whine about not being wanted at bosses. I would have liked to have seen their mob attacks being way weaker, and their single target attacks being stronger. Then they could boss better and leeching wouldn't be such a big problem. bio9205 Wrote:Thats not the point of this thread. Perhaps the entire contention is based on one trait that is present in all of us: laziness.
Not merely laziness though, it encompassess the mindset of wanting to achieve something, but is unwilling to put in much effort. Doesn't it apply in real life too? What makes you guys think that a virtual world controlled and populated by real life humans won't face the same problem? Regardless of how the practice if being handled in various societies, however, the entire mindset persists globally. I don't see a reason why anyone will consistently be motivated to achieve something if the end product does not provide much satisfaction, or the trade offs are far greater than the result itself. |
