The Issue on Leech
#1
Well, i know that leech is a very controversial (<- how do you spell this) issue in gMS. The thing is, different people from different versions have different things. I'm a MSEA player, and yesterday during event 2x, people in my alliance were spamming "f> spammer" and all.

What i want to say is, in MSEA, leech is a way of life - not even 1 single person has thought it to be illegitimate or as good as hacking - literally everyone depends on leech for level. Well, we have a fishing system here, it gives out around 1% per hour. Yes, it sucks, but for higher levels, they get the same EXP rate. They just leave their computers there for like, 100 hours, and poof! They've leveled without even the slightest effort!

Players here consider leech a part of the game, not as something to skip all that hard work. I don't thing its the same in gMS - all that discussion threads on the legitimacy of leech and all.

Well, what do you think?

EDIT: What i mean is, leeching generally in ALL versions of Maple. Yeah.

I think the ranks should distinguish between people who have played their character and people who have paid for their level.

It's not like they have any other purpose than showing who leveled up the most, and comparing leechers to normal trainers is unfair.

Then again, it would be difficult to actually do that. I mean there are people who leech from lv26 to 4th job, and people who just leech a couple levels...

I think the topic needs to die cause because player opinion on the mater means jack pomegranate as long as Nexon has stated in no uncertain terms that it's an acceptable peer-to-peer service within the mechanics of the game.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

People take Maple Story too seriously. Do whatever the hell you want as long as you are not bothering someone else, especially me.

As a warning to all who post here:

Keep it civil or you will be warned. If it gets bad enough I will close the topic.

Okay, just felt that needed to be said. Carry on.

A couple levels is fine. The former (hardcore leeching) is a blatant insult to the class the player chose to leech. Why even play it if you will suck at 4th job? If there was a way to distinguish hardcore leechers from people who actually leveled by grinding I could see leeching dropping in a sense, because who wants to party with a person who knows jack squat about the class?

So True...so very true lol. I dunno, I find people who hate leeching are people who can't afford it themselves. I worked for my levels, and my gf worked for hers. Why do people hate on us when we leech new chars that we have Tongue I dunno its just silly.

You summed it all up perfectly though but sadly these threads will keep coming up haha.

Hey I thought of a way... call it your "leech rating".

Shows, as a percentage, how much of your exp you gained yourself, and how much you gained due to party members. In cases where you both hit a monster, it would be granted based on how much HP you took down (1 hp = ~0%, 34999 hp = 100%) multiplied by the total exp gained.

Obviously nobody would be at 100% or 0%, but it would be obvious who just partied a lot (you get ~60% for your own kills in a fair 2-person party) and who paid for their level.

Higher levels would be able to reduce it, since low levels become less and less significant (doubling time of 13 levels on exp tnl) but would require actually playing the character.

I could not agree with you more. To each their own and if people are taking pixels this serious then something is wrong =)

As I've said before... Your money, you do what you want with it. People can be so controlling over a game.

What about lower-level priests, like you'd find at, say, an older-style Squid party? Or parties with more than 2 people? 2 people may be 60% for your own kills, but what about a four-person party? Five?

Frankly, I don't see the point - all it'd be is another stat to not care about, like fame.

If all Priests have a similar rating, you'll still be able to tell who's training sometimes and who always leeches. It's not like the ideal is to be 100% solo, it's just a way to tell who's leeching more.

& bigger parties still split majority to the person doing the killing, I suspect it never goes below ~30% of the exp gained from your own kills unless you're partying someone significantly more powerful.

The problem is that leeching robs a person of experiencing the class and learning how to play. If a person is just making an "x" mule, I see no problem with leeching because the mule is only going to exist to buff. The original purpose of the game is to enjoy the journey, not the destination. Nowadays, leechers try to justify rope humping as part of their journey.

B: "How did you get so high a level?"
A: "Oh, I humped a rope 24/7 while I went out and spend a thousand dollars on brand name clothes. I r so pro."
B: "Cool. Let's Pap!"
A: "Okay! I'm such a high level I will deal all the damage. Big Grin"
*Later*
A: "OMG I CAN'T DECIDE WHAT TO ATTACK WITH. WHY DID I ONLY GET 2% OF THE EXP?! D:< I BLAME LAG."
*Even Later*
A: "I'm broke. Guess I can train. I'm a high level anways. Big Grin"
*Skeles*
*Dies six times and gains 1%/hour*
A: "OMFG WHY AM I LEVELING SO SLOW?! LEECHING WAS SO FAST! I BLAME LAG."
*Quits*

Grossly exaggerated, but that is a general idea of what heavy leechers go through.

People who rely on leech to level are scrubs, and we don't need high level scrubs in the game. That's why they're still at a low level. Level used to separate the good players from most of the bad. Nowadays, we have bad players infesting 4th job.

Katie Wrote:I could not agree with you more. To each their own and if people are taking pixels this serious then something is wrong =)

There's a line where one shouldn't be nerd raging over a game, and there is the line where people think just because it's a game they can be dill weeds about it. Again, the game is for grinding and partying, not hanging on a rope for levels. If I wanted easy leveling then I'd just join a Private Server instead. Even then I got tired fast (less than a week) because it was TOO easy to level.

*And to comment on fishing for EXP, it takes a 100 hours to level no matter how high/low a level. REALLY slow and costs NX. I see no problem leveling that way because at least Asiasoft made it into an NX item. Also for heavy leechers, you're forcing another player to do the work for you. Sure you pay them, but it's essentially like paying for Powerleveling services.

I completely agree. That was what happened to me - my buddy suggested i try this wonderful thing called "leech", which i did for 90~100. After that, i resumed normal training at higher-leveled places, and i was totally not used to it.

Leeching makes you lazy.

That's why leeching should only been used as a "Take five" action, not a "Take a long vacation" action. Goggleemoticon

I "Take a long vacation" on my Hermit from 104-114 during the Thanksgiving event. Couldn't get myself to train afterwards, and Newties felt terrible to train on. Only boss hunted. Of course it didn't help that I died in 2 hits.

I "Take five" when offered the chance to on my Pirate. I am used to training and love grinding, and still haven't lost that loving feeling yet. Chin

Personally I get sick of seeing guildies spam gratz for people who leech to 120, as if they earned it. I understand wanting to level faster, and I have leeched myself (to a very, very small extent). Honestly if you want to level that way, then that's cool. I suppose if I had hundreds of millions of mesos to spend on levelling faster then I'd probably be tempted to get to a level that is high enough where I could be very strong and max a lot of 4th job skills via leeching.

That being said, I dont mind leechers being higher than me on the ranks. The satisfaction of knowing that I can play my character with a much higher level of skill and the fact that I earned my levels is enough for me. The only thing that really gets under my skin is when people make a big deal about their levels and job advancements when all they do is sit on a rope and pay for levels. Said people have earned nothing and deserve absolutely no form of congratulations. Redface

I think that no matter what you do in MapleStory (and really, any other MMO), there will always be someone to complain about it. Maplers point fingers at others who level from bossing, PQ's, and 2x EXP, as well.

This is a game. Games are meant to be played.

If you don't want to play the game, why force yourself to do it? Why let others play the game for you?
