Gunslinger Build (Lv. 10-200)
I was only in the run for an egg and pendant, not actually there to be an attacker XD.

Now that Pirates have been out for quite a while now, which attack is better: Flamethrower or Ice Splitter?

I was searching through this topic and found this build which seems to be a pretty good set up of how I want to do my skills. Any recommendations?

Max Burst Fire
1 Ice
Max Octopus
25 Ice
15 Gaviota
Max Flamethrower
Max Homing

After Maxing burst fire, I would probably add 1 point in each Gaviota, Octopus, and Homing. Is this also recommended or not?

Uh, Ice Splitter is better than Flamethrower, but it's not really even an option there - I can't think of any reason to not get at least 25 Ice, though there are quite a few arguments for not getting Flamethrower. It's still a Flamethrower or Gaviota debate (I'm on the Flamethrower side).

Outlaw mobbing is basically macroing Flamethrower-Ice and using that, or rapidly alternating between the two. It's quite pretty to watch. You almost always want to use Ice right after Flamethrower since you can't spam either, but you can fit one in right as the other cools down.

The build looks good. About the 1 point in each skill thing - that's just for fun, right? 1 Ice is useless, I'd either get 13 or 21, or leave it until after you get 21 Octo. 1 Gaviota's half as good as max, so one point early on is great. 1 Homing is a great investment, I use it on every miniboss and makes things much easier (shoot them and freeze their summons, they can't do anything to block your range Big Grin)

Octopus is absolutely useless until 11 and I still wouldn't use it much until 21.

Training spots are bad.
Immediately after job adv to 1st job, go to pig beach. at around 17 go to ariant and train on jr cacti. 20-25, ArPQ. 26-30, Somersault kick mob at desert rabbits, then put on a pumpkin spear and somersault kick to kill the mob. ACCURACY ADDS ATTACK, SOMEHOW.

Actually...
that's because the pumpkin spear kinda has more attack than a knuckle. And a slightly better multiplier with SSK.

No I was using a gun
Reply
Oh, that'll be why. SSK has a 2/3 penalty when used with a gun, not to mention bullet attack isn't counted in the equation. So the spear range ends up being higher, even if you're DEX based.

The only difference between level 19 and 20 mastery is 1 accuracy and 10 extra bullets =/ I don't recommend getting it past 19

oh and go to WR's at 55.

What else would you add that 1 point into? lolgrenade?

It may "only" be 10 extra bullets, but it's 10 extra bullets per set.

Just put it later. You only need it at 19.

The late FT build in this thread is probably the best build possible, in my opinion. I hated not having a real mob skill, though, so I went FT before Gaviota to assist me in PPQing in 9x to get my hat. The first point in Gaviota is almost half strength of maxed, anyway, and additional points only make a small difference. I also left Ice at 13 until after I maxed Octopus, because I figured a 3 second freeze would be useless until I was strong enough to tackle both Newties on the middle platform. My exact build was:

70: 1 Burst Fire (1) <- training location: Lower ascent
71-76: 3 Burst Fire (19)
77: 1 Burst Fire (max/20), 1 Ice, 1 Octo (for fun)
78-81: 3 Ice (13) <- training location changed @ 81: Cavern of pain
82-90: 3 Octo (28) <- training location changed @ 88: Newties (mid/single)
91: 2 Octo (max/30), 1 Ice Splitter (14)
92-94: 3 Ice Splitter (23) <-Newties (mid/2) opened up @ 94
95: 2 Ice Splitter (25), 1 Gaviota (1)
96: 1 Gaviota (2), 1 Flamethrower (1), 1 Homing Beacon (1)
97-103: 3 Flamethrower (22). I'm level 103 right now. <-Newties (bottom/2) opened up @ 98 (HP>2880)

From here I plan to do:
104-105: 3 Flamethrower (28)
106: 2 Flamethrower (max/30), 1 Gaviota (3)
107-110: 3 Gaviota (15)
111: 2 Homing (3), 1 Ice Splitter (26)
112-120: 3 Homing (max/30)

What's your guys' opinion on Air Strike vs. Torpedo? I'll provide a few points I've come up while thinking it over... Since we lack a skill to create mobs, we're generally limited to attacking mobs that have naturally formed on the map, which reduces Torpedo's usefulness despite its ability to be spammed over Air Strike. Air Strike however, does have greater damage and the clear advantage of hitting the whole screen at the cost of cooldown. It should allow for efficient training on maps such as Peak or Newties, where the Corsair can attack on a lower platform while casting Air Strike whenever a mob has formed above them without the need to climb ropes. For example, on Peak, the Corsair would attack the Nest Golems on the bottom with cannon, and with maxed air strike, take out the Skelesaurs on top every 10-15 seconds (2-3 Air Strikes) without ever needing to go up there, which also sounds pretty nice. So, which should be a greater priority to get first? I'm personally stuck on my own decision. D:

I think Torpedo will become much more useful with the release of Time Temple. That said, I'm planning on getting AS to a decent level (4 hit skeles wouldn't be bad), then maxing Torpedo.

I never use air strike when training and it annoys me to use it as it just aggros a bunch of crap and I take unnecessary damage. I always party with an archmage/bishop though and either 2 or 3 people parties so i've never found the need for it. Even if i was soloing peak, spawn wouldn't be there fast enough and i'd rather solo 2nd skele map or something.

I like the video with airstrike and cannon at the peak. I'm definitely leaning towards some high level airstrike early for maps such as that. I'm using lvl 1 airstrike in that new NightShadow map, combined with some other skills. If only airstrike was higher for killing the very top, i could get the bottom spawn to keep up.

Yea, or you can optimize your exp by having an archmage/bishop at top of skele map and duoing or 3-waying map for better exp.

Sure it may be good, but there are better ways to train. Just like misting or fd/paralyze/eliquines is decent exp but everyone still uses ultimates to train.

Some of us do not have Bishop/AM slaves to help us. Or if anything, they'd want you to pay. Being self-sufficient is a good thing.

I agree with this. I never quite realized that these new maps open up the cannon -> AS build we've thrown away quite some time ago.

Seems weird, guess bellocan is different.

I still think soloing second skele map would be faster than AS + canon peak. Unless i was doing it wrong, i ran out of spawn on bottom as Air strike wasn't strong enough to kill. I do have boss build so that may be a reason too.

Even w/o training like that, jarius always comments on how anegoing and stuff is even better so try that? I just don't see the point in AS unless it's really strong, but there are more important skills imo to max before it.
