I'm thinking more of the entire group advancing together, having obstacles along the way that certain skills can diffuse.

Hm.
I hope they have less 'hard requirements' - i.e. "Oh noes our shadower has to leave... now we have to quit" - and more 'soft requirements' - i.e. "Gee I wish we had a paladin for this stage. Oh well, I guess we have to resort to the much more annoying alternative way."

We'll just have to see. :/

Yes. This. Having to end those pqs (mainly pqs like LPQ where you need specific people, or MPQ where you usually need that one strong attacker for Frankenroid), is so annoying. I HATE it.

I stopped joining MPQ when there is no one to protect, it's pretty pointless then. My parties usually contain me (a F/P mage) and someone that can protect. The other two can be anyone, preferrably someone who can attack. Gotta love Chocolate Cream Cake giving +30 speed/jump still have about 90 of those saved Goggleemoticon

Alternate paths always work, so if someone disconnects, you can simply skip his part, and do an alternate one.

The problem is that paladins have no unique abilities. Literally all of their skills are weaker or equal versions of something another class has D:

Yes, but the combination is unique.

For instance, suppose a room blocked by a fiery door dealing an unavoidable 10k hp environmental damage (which Magic Guard is useless against). To remove the barrier, someone must go to the other side and use an ice-based attack to kill/break the thing generating the fire.

That's really annoying to have a PQ where you NEED to have a certain class though. There's ways to make classes useful without making them needed.

-Make monsters elementally weak, that'll instantly help pallys/mages.
-Make the boss summon hords of mobs. Great time for ultimate mob control
-Give the monster a high kickback rate (25k+) and high touch damage. That'll make classes that hit hard in one shot needed to keep a boss knocked back (pallys, mages, pallys, bucs, shadowers) to keep him away from the ranged.
-Let him do physical defense up only instead of physical and magic. Once again, good for mages

Seriously, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to make everyone useful.

Maybe when they bring over the talking boss thing from KMS they can get him to say Asta La Vista Baby!

That's a really obscure situation. Something like that would be terrible. If the PQ was full of stages like that it would be a total failure. Waiting for specific classes to turn up so you can do the PQ is one of the worst things about a PQ.

Maybe get a better reward for the more rooms you clear seems plausible, though.

As for the paladin room, I always imagined it filled with monsters immune to most elements, but weak to one. Make it a room that resets when nobody's in, and that allows one person inside. Monsters you can attack only with Lightning, fire, ice, and holy... All four at the same time. Only one who can kill them all is a Palladin. Maybe make the holy one an extra so 3rd job ones can still clear it partially.

Gunslingers could still clear fire and ice, too...

Hermits, on the other hand, can be tricky. Imagine a box. It drops a potion you use when you loot it. And you haven't enough time to reach the end of the room to enter a portal with that transformation on... Solution? ALCHEMIST. With that skill, you get an extra 50% time to reach the door. Inside, make it a flash jump quest, and it'll be quite interesting overall.

Well something like that is fine, I mean as long as you can get in and get on with it. Nothing worse than honing around for a certain class to turn up.

To me a simple idea for a Paladin room would be to have a mini boss style character that can only be hit by elemental attacks. It would cycle through all the different elements, meaning a mage would be no good. You would need a paladin since it had all the elements needed. Or maybe a room that only one person can go in that has 4 monsters/reactors that need to be hit with the different elements to activate or unlock something.

Well, as has been observed before, this "PQ" already sounds more like a major boss run you plan ahead of time than an impromptu "J>PQ" sort of thing.

At any rate, we'll just have to wait and see what Nexon means by all class skills being needed. Do they mean "absolutely required" via artificial scenarios as I've outlined (like in LPQ and MPQ), or merely "useful" as you hope (like in PPQ)?

Serious? I hate major boss runs; there are guilds who sometimes hog the room and others maintain a monopoly on certain items. I want a J>PQ like PQ. Hothead

Its still a PQ, but since you need 10 to 20 people and specific classes then you cant really just pick up random strangers, you have to have some connections.

Also it may take place on more than 1 channel, who knows?

I still don't like the idea of having 1 or more classes that you MUST have in order to just complete the PQ. I do like the 10-20 amount of people to get in. It'll definently take place in all channels. All PQ's take place in all channels.

Maple Story is an easy game. Just about everyone agrees with that. It'd be very nice to have ONE thing that is a challenge, a real challenge. This PQ is a step in the right direction. Hopefully it's hard enough where you must coordinate together to complete it. Kind of like raiding in WoW. Where it's almost a must to have everyone talking together on vent to get this thing rolling. That'd be some hot shiet.

I think that a neutral-resistant monster would be an interesting addition to the game but they don't exist yet making it harder for Nexon to add.

Making stuff in such a way that all the classes can do it but end up with different results at the boss would be interesting.

Eg. a room where the monster buffs up +2000 attack (resulting in doing over 30k touch). Dispel and Power Crash would take it off, letting everybody pass, Smokescreen would let you sneak through it, Dark Sight alone would be enough to get a couple players in. So depending who is in the party, you send a different person or group of people to that room. Depending how many different classes get through, youd be able to complete different tasks in the next stage, giving a different result in the end.

Would be neat if you just got +10 seconds of bonus for every class, so the best party (13 subclasses incl. 90+ beginner) got 130 seconds in the bonus stage, while the more typical NL+BM+Bishop+DK would only get 40 seconds, but be easier to form.

Coordinated JQs would also be fun (imoTongue)... each player has to hit a switch to unlock the next section for someone else, drop an item in a certain place to open a bridge, stand on a certain platform to "hold down the switch" while someone else goes up, etc..

Wow 19 pages....I haven't read them all, but I only have small comment to make, so I guess it won't be a big deal Big Grin.

Honestly, I hate it when Nexon gets people's hopes up by saying lots of different classes will be needed. Granted, their intentions are usually good - they'll make things weak to certain elements or whatnot - but their designs always have the flaw in that they're built to FAVOR, say, ArchMages or Paladins, but don't REQUIRE them. Now I know a lot of you don't like when classes are required, but understand this: on basically every party quest out there so far where it would be NICE to have an ArchMage or something, that spot can usually be filled by other quick-thinking classes.

In other words, I believe Nexon will make this PQ nice for ArchMages, etc., by having things like elementally weak monsters and mob control, but in the end high levels in other classes will be chosen over ArchMages because they can do the job a little worse, if not just as well as the AM, but are more wanted for whatever boss fight comes at the end.

There is one, just a lot of the usual picks are all whining about it.

Teehee, a single Corsair can do 6 out of 10 of those things.

I completely agree with the not needing certain classes to complete the PQ. Paladins are good attackers; give monsters elemental weaknesses and bam, Paladins are up near the top.

I don't want this to be like a WoW raid, though. I'd just feel lame participating in one of those.
