Clean Slate Glitch?
Harrisonized Wrote:Jumpcasting is a glitch as Maple did not design it for mages to jump attack. If they did, they would have made mages like hermits being able to jump while they attack.

jumpcasting on a mage doesn't exist because their attacks are still based from the ground. also, try jumping and then casting an attack, it won't work.
If jumpcasting is unintended, why does it work more easily with some skills?

There's obviously a timing factor that Nexon can adjust. In fact afair it's impossible to jump + Maple Warrior. So if they didn't want people to jump cast they would just block it.

Same as telecasting, it's just a way to add timing importance & flexibility to attacks. If you couldn't teleport until after skill finished casting, that would make sense too - but you can teleport pretty much any time during a skill, cause it's set up that way.
Harrisonized Wrote:You have convinced me now, that it is a glitch. There is though, two points I have to disagree with you about:
1) You cannot use "common sense" to explain things. "Common sense" is merely a label, it is not logic.
2) You cannot predict the future actions of Nexon, as with your "possibility to create a 500 slot cape". As stated somewhere in the earlier pages, many of the glitches such as jumpcasting with mages or HP washing became features when Nexon let them slide. Why would they give you a chance to make "false" stats that give bowmen the same survivability as Mages?

I commend you though for typing this out, contrary to Felix and Opeth, who merely just stated that I'm stupid or dense for thinking logically.

Tongue
On the contrary, I think DS's post was much more 'logical' than yours have been.

It doesn't matter whether you (or Nexon, for that matter) likes the idea of extra slots. The fact is that it's almost definitely an unintended feature.

@ Stereo
I'm almost certain you can jump + Maple Warrior. Just that its animation lasts longer than a jump, so there isn't as much of a point.

@ Avenge
Though the attack is still based from the ground, it's still occuring at the same time as the jump is, which can't be accomplished any other way. That's the common definition of 'jumpcasting'.

@ Gummy
It's not a coding glitch. Doesn't mean it isn't a glitch, period.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/glitch
"2. Computers. any error, malfunction, or problem."

Nexon did not intend for bowmen and mages to jump and attack at the same time (I could elaborate on why I think this is so), and since they can, it's an error. A glitch.
But it isnt a glitch. If someone with really fast reflex (like mr Clark Kent) could just do jump attack, because he can input the 2 commands really fast in sequence. Its not an abnormaly either, as it happens to multiple programs such as MS Word, notepad, etc. It just how the hardware is. Who to say it's a glitch is like saying why 2 > 1 and not 1 > 2.

This is really similar to the "sliding frozen monsters" incident that many have witnesses. Unfornately, data transfers isnt instantaneous, so monsters positions arnt always matched. Is it a glitch? You may think it is, but the fact is that any client/server architecture experiencing this issue one way or another. It's an accepted fact of networking. This is why vac-hackers dont like you in their map, coz it screws up the monster positions.

If it screws up the monster positions, explain how people continue to hack and bot at wolf spiders even though I enter and meteo everything.

If that was the case, the character would complete one action first before starting the other, similar to how macros are done.

Scenario 1: Jump first, try to attack in midair
1. Player presses jump key
2. Jump command is processed, character jumps into the air
3. Player then presses attack key
4. Attack command gets rejected because it can't be executed in the air

Scenario 2: Attack first, try to jump mid-attack
1. Player presses attack key
2. Attack command is processed, character starts executing attack
3. Player then presses jump key
4. Jump command gets rejected because it can't be executed during an attacking frame

Scenario 3: Both keys pressed during the same frame
1. Player presses jump key
2. Jump command is processed
3. Player presses attack key while still on the ground
4. Attack command is processed, character starts executing attack while jumping

MS Word is not the same because there is no limitation on two keys being pressed at once. The commands just get queued, and executed one before the other, and produce the same result as if the two were pressed sequentially. In this case, however, the desired effect can't be done by pressing the jump and attack keys separately.

Poor client/server synch... and depends on the vac in question.

For client-side ones, it's possible for them to vac the entire map regardless who else is around, or to act the same as server-side.
For server-side ones (that actually move the monsters) it can only move the ones the server has assigned to them, which in general is about 1/n of the spawn, for the number of people in the map. Assignment changes when you KB monsters, too, so it is possible to have control of every monster in the map if you've hit them and not killed them yet.

It's only possible at all because they reduce server load by letting the clients handle monster movement. Each player controls a few, and the location updates are synched every 1/2 second or so.

Keyboard repeat behaviour is an interesting way to look at it... if I hit 2+ keys at the exact same instant, it'll repeat all of them. If I miss, it only repeats the last to be hit (even though the others are also held down). Eg. ueoueoueoueoueoueoueoueo = u, e, o held down. oeuuuuuuuuu = o, e, u hit in that order and held down. In testing I've found I can get up to about 5 letters going at once..
I've been able to jumpcast maple warrior. I've found that it depends more on the keys that the skill and jump is assigned to more than anything else. Or maybe it's just me.

Well, maybe logic is a better saying than common sense in this case, idk. The idea behind what I wrote is that you have to put yourself into a Nexon programmer's position and ask yourself whether the feature included was intended or not.

And for #2, I see your thoughts and ideas behind this. I think one should put oneself back into the programmer's shoes and ask whether this new unintended feature/glitch is made up in such a way that people using this feature may be effectively abusing the glitch (pickpocket-glitch, toenail-glitch and bigfoot-glitch as examples) and should be punished for what they did.

The other part of this, is to find out whether you're able to find out whether a person has been abused this glitch or not. (Which is the biggest issue, really) If you're unable to locate and/or the glitch is so extreme that it will kill maplestory as of today, the "only" way to fix this is by a rollback, I'd think.

Last part, as for chair jumping and spell-jumping: These are minor glitches in the game, which does not really make anything unfair for anyone. The spell-jumping may be discussed, though if I were a Nexon programmer, I'd think that this unintended feature was a bonus, and a "gift" instead of an issue.

So, is this feature/glitch, "no-slot scroll white scroll-scrolling", effectively abusive? I consider this to be the "hardest" question in this issue. Yes, it is effectively abusive, but a white scroll will save a slot anyway. Using a clean slate (which has a possibility of destroying the item as well) while using a white scroll, then add a scroll back on top later on has so to say the same effect as just using a scroll with a white scroll. The only difference is that you're able to regain a slot on an eventually bought item, work a scroll, and possibly earn a lot by doing so.

The other part (protection/spike), I'm unsure of because I'm unsure whether there's a check on their servers with the scrolls. If there's no check, this glitch will very dangerous for items, such as facestompers. You're able to give the items a lot of attack through the use of chaos scrolls. So, if there's no slot-check:
yeah, this issue should be addressed as soon as possible. Since Nexon-programmers (or technicians) has all the data in a database, they could eventually search up items having more slots, or worked scrolls, than possible. I do agree that this would be somewhat hard if they have no searching-algorithm yet, but that's the only way finding people effectively abusing this part of the glitch.

If not, I would address the issue as soon as possible, but not penalize for the error as it does not create too much harm.

If I put myself in a Nexon programmer's shoes, that is. Goggleemoticon
Tir Wrote:I've been able to jumpcast maple warrior. I've found that it depends more on the keys that the skill and jump is assigned to more than anything else. Or maybe it's just me.

There're multiple types of keys on a keyboard, and thus they share different interrupts. I think a normal letter [a-z] for jump and alt/shift/ctrl for MW would makes it come out easily enough, or vice versa.

@Harrisonized, monster positions get sent over and over again, not just once and I am pretty sure it depends on what you do too, thus explains the "flying monsters"

@Russt, perhaps because I am doing programming, my definition of a glitch is a bit different to your. You simply assume 2 keys are being pressed at the same time. There're certain internal works that is pointless to explain here, but all I can say is that Nexon has their checks, and it works as expected within their boundaries. Also, as Devil's put it, jump attacking isnt game-breaking, in fact, it gives you little advantages, so I am leaving it at that.
Stereo Wrote:If jumpcasting is unintended, why does it work more easily with some skills?
I haven't experienced any timing difference with jumpcasting any of my attack/support skills (DS, AB, DP, Strafe, AR, Inferno, Puppet). Do you have a specific example?
Hm.
Well I think it's much like water companies; they can't get rid of every single particle of impurities in their water, but it's safe enough to use and drink, so they ship it anyway knowing that a few ppm or whatever of impure substances are in that water. Is this intended? No. The impurities are a fault, but the water company lets it slip because it isn't too harmful.
Likewise, jumpshooting is a fault because when they were designing the game, they didn't choose to implement it that way. It just happened, and they decided to leave it because it's no game-breaker.

you know, im suprised no one brought this up, or suggested it, or w/e. Since the glitch has been exposed, it isnt really more cost effective anymore, but when clean slates are like pretty darn cheap, it is more effective doing this. If you land a bunch of 30s, lets say 4, on an weapon that is well above average. If you want a perfect weapon, the option before was to use whitescrolls with every slot, 10%ing, which would cost the price, on a loose average, 30 white scrolls. But, if you 10% each of the last slots, if you dont want to risk it. More then likely end up with +4, right? Then you use the glitch to get those 3 slots back, and repeat. Granted, it wont save a lot of money, especially if you arent lucky, but you wont lose white scroll whenever the 10% works. Im tired, and dont feel like doing math, but it should take on a loose average 10 tries to land a 10%, so each slot will use 9 white scrolls and 9 clean slates instead of 10 white scrolls. Im pretty sure, before the mass inflation on clean slates, 9 of them were cheaper then 1 white scrolls, and more common too. The increase in perfect items is actually due to less white scrolls being needed. albeit, not that much less. This, plus, you dont have to be the one who did the landing of the 10/30%s in the first place, just have to get slots back and redo.

It would obviously be cheaper to just use the white scrolls. With the second scenario you mentioned, you would repeat using white scroll and clean slate after white scroll and clean slate, while, in the first scenario, you only use a white scroll.

It's a glitch. It was obviously unintended. Abusing a Glitch = Hacking in Nexon's eyes. Getting more than intended slots = Hacking.

Could just be key settings, I've mainly had trouble with Rush (which will only jump cast when there are no targets) while I found DS to be pretty easy.

I don't have much experience jumpcasting as a mage, teleport always seemed like a better choice.

If there's a +11 item, then there really is 0 restriction.

Why doesn't the +9 YAC prove it? You mean the cap for any item is +10?

Clean Slates aren't inflating much, and with good reason. This glitch really just makes White Scrolls more powerful. Clean Slates still suck.

The reason he says +11 is because overalls/Zakum Helm have the most slots of any Maple equip out there, 10.
MetaSeraphim Wrote:The reason he says +11 is because overalls/Zakum Helm have the most slots of any Maple equip out there, 10.

I know that. The YAC has 9 scrolls working on it. YACs have 8 slots. That is proof enough; what in the world do overalls and ZHelms have to do with it?
Because it's the limit of slots on equips, just because it's a cape doesn't mean it can't go by a the overall's limit on slots.
