Does this spells the end of leechers?
Blah, as a priest I am not too thrilled about this. I am level 109, but I have never ever bought leech and don't intend to ever sell it. (For the record, my character was made before fourth job ... And I've played this game way too long.) I know how to play my character. I was Zakuming and survivng at 9x when other priests were dying at 120+, and Pap'ing at 8x. (As soon as I hit the level where I could go into the room.)

This sort of isn't all that fair for priests, though. We have no efficient way of killing anything alone during third job. We do horrible damage (I mean, Shining Ray maxes at what, 5k~6kish per hit per monster during fourth job, or something ridiculous like that? At least F/P gets poison, I/L gets Ice Strike ... we get nothing of use, except Holy Symbol). If we were to be forced to follow these exp rules, we'd either be shafted into training at VooDoos/HooDoos until 120 or getting terrible experience from Himes (When we heal, we barely take any of the HP). I guess Grims are an option, too, though, but that's inefficient unless you split with someone and with this new formula it'd be useless.

And let me say, I leech experience but I try to pull my own weight. I make sure everyone always has HS on, I run around and heal people when I can (usually I follow the Heroes and try to keep down their potion use). This is what I have done ever since I became a Cleric ... Followed around my brother's character, a Fighter/Crusader/Hero, kept down his potion usage, and benefitted with experience. With Holy Symbol he doesn't even lose any experience as a result.

Realistically the best way to do something like block leech selling/buying would be to set up a system like the anti-bot system designed a while ago. (If you attack in 1 place too long, you cease attacking properly.) It should be something like if your character has not moved for a long time (say, >30 seconds) then they will receive no experience. Or if you have not attacked a monster for a long time (say >1 minute) you will not receive experience from the party. That means if you have HS support or something all they have to do is whack a monster every so often and be hanky panky. It also would put an end to AFK leeching--because in order to bypass they would have to "bot", which is against the ToS.

never heard of himes? or are you as helpless as you're trying to make yourself out to be?

Um, I have heard of Himes and I have trained there. Did you not read my post?

"or getting terrible experience from Himes (When we heal, we barely take any of the HP)"

at Himes, with the new system, if it were based on attack % (the amount of HP you remove is how the EXP you get is based), the priests would be shafted because they barely remove any HP via heal. It's all the DK/WK/whatever. So under the new system, if it is like it seems to be a priest would get a much lower exp gain because they don't take as much % off.

Sheesh. Tongue

[edit]: Of course, this depends on how the system really works. If all it requires is 1 hit to get experience from the monster (the same exp as before), then yea, himes is the way to go for priests after this is implemented. If it matches exp gained to hp deducted from the monsters, then we're screwed. :[

hes referring to using sr to solo himes i think, which you generally dont do because you dont like to train alone.

Ah, that would work too, though it'd rather suck. 6-7k damage / hit roughly translates to 10 (maybe 9) hits per Hime, 6 at a time; they give 3200 EXP but the training %/hour would be dreadful.

It's definitely doable, it would just put Priests far behind other classes. Which was my original point anyway.

never a better time to stop relying on other attackers to kill for you.

Lol venison ur funny.

Ya know, clerics/priests/bishops have not made up the majority of the high lvls because were hard to train. Back in the day, stephen and derangedcow were the two top players (clerics). During 3rd job, the majority of high lvls were priests. Clericzoe and HYDRANGE were fighting for tp spot for a long time. Now, there's more lvl 200 bishps than any other class. You really think trainin ur char is slow/hard? Iono wut ur smoking but u needa try another class first before saying that stuff. I used to train at grims and gobies solo, and ur saying exp/hr at himes is bad when u atk? Lol.

This was a year ago, before I quit my mage, but when I trained at himes, it took me over 20 IS to kill a mob and that was the fastest exp for me.

Rusty, no need to recite Maple history to me... I've played since early open Beta, I know the top levels have (usually) been priests/bishops. And Avenge, you can try to not be rude about my personal decisions for training. As modular said, I don't like to train alone (he would know) and I prefer to play as a supporting class vs. attacker--hence why I haven't exactly levelled much in my server since it came out compared to other players. It really just doesn't matter to me, though I'd like to keep the little experience I do receive instead of losing it to a new damage formula.

I guess I should reword what I was initially saying. It would suck for priests like me, who like to train with other people and, yes, rely on other attackers for majority of the experience. Is this a wrong way to play Maple? The only reason I made a priest to begin with was because my main training partner was going to be a warrior. Training solo is boring and frankly unrewarding for me. I'd rather get on and have someone to interact with then play all by myself. If I want to do something solo I'll go work on homework.

So stop the hate, it's really pointless. Nitpicking poor logic when the argument in question never offended you personally is just stupid. I am aware of the issues with my first response to this thread, and have now clarified. =)

Too right you are...so much for getting to 200 anytime within ten years. >.> 18 skeles for 0.01% alone as it is...without the leech-y system we have in place now, nothing but bishops or Arch Mages will go anywhere with any ease, and the overflow of bishops will only get worse.

Its meaningless to play a MMORPG just by leeching isn't it?

If this method will erase leecher off the game, i will support! Glitter

Another way is to disconnect characters that are idle in training maps after a certain time (maybe 30mins?). This will defintely eliminate overnight leeching.

When I was Himing, I could kill a whole mob with Heal and Shining Ray. Not at lvl 81 when I went there, but by lvl 110, yeah, I could. I was lukless though. Are you full luk with bad gear?

If I were Nexon, I'd just make it so that the total experience anyone in the party has earned by killing things themselves must always be greater than the total experience leeched from the rest of the party in order to leech more, if that makes sense. This would also require a greater weight on experience gained by the killer in larger parties though.

I have enough luk to wear the highest level mage equips out by now, I think, yes. And my best gear is my overall, which i just got a few weeks ago...I think its like +2x int or something. I have a zhelm but it is average. I've never been all that concerned with gear, mostly because I've always been fairly poor and don't like devoting much time to the free market (I generally avoid it, haha).

But yeah that could be a fair explanation. Most of my equips DO suck. Rolleyes Never been a huge concern for me, but I guess I need to start looking into it.

Interesting idea

but i think itd need to be a percentage of what you leeched

otherwise it might still be cutting it close for some of the weaker attkers with a mage in some of the bigger maps

and the bigger the party maybe the smaller percentage needed to keep leeching

would still screw over priests though

or count hs exp as exp towards their req

or just make this only take effect when a 4th job mage is in the party

too many loopholes in all the theories really

whatever they end up doing will piss of more then just leechers --
