Blocking Programs/Sites

k, I'm trying to quit Maple so I can not have a 1.3 GPA in Highschool. Problem is, I'm always pulled back.
To restrain myself, I'd like to block MapleStory and the MapleStory related sites I use. Being on Vista, I can't imagine that's hard to do.
Ideally, I'd be able to block Maplestory altogether, not just a specific file, so even if I try it again, I'd have to unblock it before playing it anywhere from my computer.

Anyone know how I can do this? :/

For blocking sites, that's hard as hell. Easy to bypass it if you're setting it up, lol.

If your highschool has a computer lab that comes with the basic stuff, then here's what I suggest you could do:

Remove your computer.

Or have some sort of plan where life becomes a real PITA should you try to pull a fast one.


You might try parental controls. This is an idea coming from one of Microsoft's Vista ads I saw on TV, so I have little idea how well it works when you're not the one setting it up (I use it to lol block my parents from using my laptop >_>).

Find whatever setting it is that blocks things and put a random password that you don't even know in to lock it.

Edit the host file located at: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

using notepad add:

127.0.0.1 site.name.here

Great. Now let's see if this prevents him from editing the host file again to unblock the site. I approve of JoeTang's method though xD

Okay, maybe I shoulda thought you my method before actually telling you to give up.

I have two computers. One with net, one without. It may sound easy to tempt yourself to go to the other computer, but heck, it's some sort of "I'm watching TV"-feeling, you see.

or you know, develop some sort of self control.

Install a piece of software called Comodo Firewall. Run Maple, and alt-tab. Find "view active connections" under "firewall" and copy down Maplestory's IP. Click on "My blocked network zones" and click the "add" button. Add the IP of Maplestory.

Then, uninstall Maplestory. If you're serious about this, you can get your parents to add parental control over adding/removing applications as well.
