If Beta Came Back
#1
If Nexon offered a version of Beta to play, how many people would play it?
No updates or anything, just GG(hacker nibs) and all the content of Beta.

well i think i'd play it for the close community but see'ing a lot more ppl would play nowdays then back then i dont think it would be as much fun anymore.

I'll admit that the charm and style of the old MapleStory got me playing, but nowadays I'd stick with the current MapleStory, simply because there's much more to do.

I'd play it just to see how it is. My real life friend quit after Orbis came out because he said the game's world got too big(Scanian). It'd be nice to play with a small community and see people use The Middle Forest maps again.

I started playing Maple Story during the Summer of 2008 so I never had a chance to try Beta but I am curious to see what it was like without all the luxuries we have in game today.

Play this game only never leave Victoria Island and don't use the CS/MTS. That's still more than you'd have with Beta.

If we could have just the size of the community we had at late 2006, I'd be all for it.

But this is a moot point. Nexon's not going to go back to earning no money.

What are you supposed to train at higher levels at vic island?

Nope. I don't like grinding at wraiths from 40-55 and zombies from 56-75.

I like the new content and equips that are available in our current Maplestory better.

higher levels for beta standards are like 6x, 7x.

Yeah, and past that? I've been wondering for ages how people lived with so little variety.

well, 7x was pretty much endgame lol, after that you would still train at the same old places, it would just take even longer to get the level (the same that happens for mages using ultimates as long as they kill with the same number of hits).

List of things not out from the top of my head:
  • Guilds
  • Orbis
  • Anything that branches off of Orbis
  • Modern Maple Island (Oh how I miss the old Island... ;{)
  • Anything related to NX- CS, Gach, MTS
  • Basilmarket morons
  • 3rd job
  • Maple Items
  • You had to be on the same map to invite to a party, back then
  • Party Quest. Kerning's the only one that might have been there
List goes on. ;o
The Total installed folder for Beta is 300 or so MB. A quarter of v65's size.

Zombies? Those didn't exist in Beta. High levels had to grind on Red Drakes and Cold Eyes in Sanctuary.

there was no FoG too, or mini-dungeons. No nautilus (obviously), no CPQ.

Also we didn't have a crapload of quests like we do know (even if you count only the vic ones from now).

If you think about it, it's kinda the same situation now.

Once we get enough real 4th job content, I mean real content, we'll be looking back on 2008 and thinking, "I wonder how people could bear to train at Newts and Skeles all the way to 200..."

I wouldn't go back to playing Beta because reminiscing about how great old times were is different from actually going back and reliving it.

I never played beta, but I'd probably mess around with it and nab some "original" names. There's not nearly enough to do on Vic to keep my interest for long.

The community is vastly different between now and then...the content alone isn't what made up beta (even though I didn't play, lol).
