It's funny, though... It's easier to talk about Maple once you get older than a certain point, because there's a nostalgia for the simple games. =) People don't judge so much by graphics/gameplay simplicity...
Friend of mine is really into FFXI... we talk about game economies and mechanics and balance. FFXI is interesting, but I no longer have a PS2.
When I admitted to playing MS to another friend of mine (I usually just say I play an MMO, and most people who press for the name have never heard of it), he said he had tried it, but quit because the drop rate for orange mushroom caps was too low... =P He wants me to try EVE Online with him, actually, but I don't want to be fragged. D: Or pay.
Other than my IRL friend who introduced me to the game (who quit, and I no longer speak to from other problems), I don't know anyone IRL who has seriously played MS. Most of my MS friends are in PST instead of EST 'cause I stay up too late for the rest of the ESTers. xD
Also, I think it would be weird to meet up with my MS friends who are 40+ and 15-. Because then I would start really thinking of them as the same age as my parents or my younger sister, respectively. *shudder* I am a lot more relaxed about age differences as I get into my 20s, though.
Interestingly, six months before I joined, a few old friends from Neopets were on MS, but I thought it was pay like Ragnarok (the other popular MMO to move to at the time), so I ignored it.
