Well guys.... is a Pikamemnon thread... what do you expect?

BTW, seems that storywise the game improved a lot. Wondering if Nexon can continue like that or start to finish all of them.

I think a mixture of the great balance updates and content updates, with the design philosphy of the old Maple is what is seriously needed.


Yeah, everyone is getting older and part of them thinking the old Maple is better is definitely influenced by Nostalgia, but no one is saying that the old game had no flaws. They could have fixed the games issues without throwing a rug over everything and basically saying ''pineapple it, release 20 copy/paste classes with slightly different animations and let clerics hit 50 mil damage and level to 200 in a few weeks''.


It was the way they made the game back then that gave it a sense of magic and adventure, they could probably make leveling a bit easier....I think Big-Bang pace(without the 5% accuracy penalty) was a very good leveling pace, just don't put 2xp in.

Rebalance maps to emphasize either profit, exp, or a smaller combination of both, and give better class-specific areas to grind in.

Take away all this mobility on the classes, having a class that can zoom across the map in seconds is just unecessary.

Lower the range on like, every skill so that it doesn't encompass nearly the entire screen.

Damage reflect is stupid and cheap, it at least needs to stop proccing with every skill.

Rebalance the entire elemental system, to this day I still feel like they don't do very well. The goal in most cases is to reset your entire elemental damage because everything resists it. Why encourage elemental based jobs to actually LOSE their elemental affinity? It should be a much bigger defining mechanic than just how their skills look.

Etc.


Imo the storyline was made far worse. Back then it was an optional feature that didn't intrude on the player, but offered wonders of lore to the curious types of players. Now, every new class has a redundant tutorial forced on them with yet another rendition of ''Hey guys, Black Mage dun it!'' or some random element they just pulled out of their ass. Focusing the plot has been a total cluster pineapple compared to what it used to be imo.

The good old days weren't that good. I wasn't a first gen player, but I reached lvl 200 back when it was hard, (I grinded for about 1.5 years at 12 hours a day,) and ended up at rank 86 in the Khaini server, which then had over a million characters.

At the top of the heap, where my friends and I played, there was a lot of hacked gear, a lot of stress, and a lot of addiction. I quit Maple Story, despite my supposed success with it, because past a point I felt no longer as a person playing a fun game but a drug addict. A lot of my friends felt that they'd rather be doing something else, but they kept playing. The good old days had HP washing, which cost a fortune, and resetting skills was so expensive that many people abandoned high level characters because they were screwed up and resets cost so much they couldn't fix them. Double experience changed everything, because at that point it became feasible to get to 200, before that, not even Tiger was close.

I think the deal-breaker was when they lifted the cap of lvl 200. My rank was what I was proud of, because I grinded so hard to get it, but in the end, when the lvl 200 cap got lifted I was "offered" a "chance" to take what had been mine already. I think it was that point when I basically decided there was nothing that would ever get me to play this game again. In a game that necessitates the amount of grinding that old-school Maple had, taking away a lvl 200's rank basically means bye-bye.

When my attention was half-assed, I think some of the Cash Shop decisions were in the right direction, such as the permanent safety charm and the permanent vip teleport rock. But the eternal problem of this game was that great gear cost a fortune and in order to keep up, you had to discard your old godly gear for what you could get for it, and get "new" gear that was created by the latest "improvement." The top players sold their old stuff when they felt the change coming, got new godly gear and kept at the top that way. But, in a game this expensive, getting gear constantly wasn't very nice to the players.

I think Maple was always more fun to the relaxed, casual players, but the extreme commercialization of it was always distasteful to people. The addiction and need for grinding was also quite extreme, so as someone who quit during the "good old days," I can assure you there were problems with it back then too. I think the biggest problem now is that Nexon has pissed off so many of its customers that the game is dying. If it had run Maple Story responsibly, I think it would be more fun now because all the players wouldn't have quit.

You pretty much nailed it right on the head, but keep in mind those perm VIP rock and safety charm were only on sale for what, a week? Tongue

It kind of blows my mind that the game even still exists.

I kinda wonder what'll happen to SouthPerry if Maple Story outright gets shut down. Haven't been here in a while, but the place seems cooler than when I left. It's too bad we're dealing with Nexon and not something like Blizzard or Zenimax.
