*How do you get 'hacked'*
#1
We've all heard it.

"My friend got hacked today."

We've all had people close to us have this problem, but how exactly does it happen? I refuse to believe in the idea that there is a magic hack fairy going around infesting our maple accounts. Most people I ask have literally no idea how it happened.

So, how doe sit happen?

There are a few methods and theories.

*The Keylog theory
*The trusting the wrong person (who later just logged in and took it all) theory
*Hackers who need your ID to get your PW/Pin
*Hackers who can reach you via IE scripts i.e. logging into your nexon site account
*Opening an email with an attachment
*MSN/AIM hacks
*The liars who want attention

As far as I know, these are all just rumors.

I'm looking for a real technologically savy person to elaborate on just how getting hacked could be possible. People popping in with stories about how their friends got hacked by just logging out arent things I want to hear about.

Is there a logical explanation for getting hacked?

When people say, "My friend got hacked", oftentimes they don't mean that.

What they mean is, "Someone broke into my friend's account." Whether is was by the friend being stupid or the hacker doing any hacking is irrelevant. "Getting hacked" = Account compromised in some way.

99.9% of the time, it's someone giving their info to some other one and one of the some other ones decided to just jack it all and pretend they didn't know what happened... happened to me twice... and i know who that someone is...

but i still have a couple people that know my info but i still trust them... and if i DO get hacked, i know who to blame >.> AND i wouldn't care anyway...

the other 0.1% would be those who were idiotic enough to go on a keylogger site or got revenge from people like the infamous ecko who is godly with hacks being able to get into your account by just talking to you via in-game messenger system...

I dont consider someone getting into your account because you gave them your info a "hack". They did not really break into your computer and install some sort of malware or something.

I mean it in the tactical method of it fiel. Via some use of a 3rd party program or the like. We hear about it a lot but nobody every discusses how to protect ourselves from it, what to avoid etc.

When i try and play detective when my friends are dumbfounded on how they lost everything, they usually are just shocked it happened to them and can't figure out how this could have happened.

They can't all just be seeking attention....right? =s

That one freaks me out. Im really paranoid about opening chats, even with people that are in my guild =/

Well, any person claiming to have gotten "hacked" is obviously at fault one way or another, whether it's sharing information, downloading suspicious files, or something else, unless it's a serious security breach on Nexon's end, which we know is nonexistent for now because the top rankers still remain intact. It probably comes from all the of the reasons you listed there, which people collectively call getting "hacked," even though it technically isn't.

In MSEA, some China hackers got hold of Asiasoft's database of passwords (Yes, every single account. Scary, eh?) and hacked into almost every account. Those who didnt change their passwords were doomed.

Another time, hackers would scroll a gawdleh item, decode the entire item, place a tracker inside, and sell it in the FM for a really cheap price like 1 mesarz. When someone buys it, all the hacker needs to do is track the item, and somehow (i have no idea how) get the password, and the account is hacked. Sweet, no?

These are TRUE. Not just speculations.

Opening chat is okay, depending on if you trust the person. Most ppl get hacked because they let ppl know their info. Btw, Ecko does hack via chat, but if you don't piss him off, you're fine. Proof:

Hasn't done anything to me yet.

It's just a typo. Instead of typing "I shared my account information with someone", they type "I got hacked".

Proof please. I find this extremely hard to believe. IMHO this is all your (or someone else's) speculation with nothing to back it up.

Only ways you can get hacked:

Being Keylogged
Sharing your Info

Or that Ecko crap I guess.

Don't share your info, Don't download crap you don't even know your downloading, and you should be fine.

All I can say is, If you get hacked, it is pretty much your own fault.

you are messing up the facts here. this DID exist, and it was patched.

I refuse to believe that 2nd part. I'm not that naive. Not only does that require them to actually hack the client side, it would require them to hack the server side of the game code of the actual item to change its inherent class properties, and along with that, the actual server that transmits the item exchange data. In addition, they would need to hack the game data of the exact person who is trying to buy the item in order for such a tracker item to be purchased to begin with (because you know why? The client of the buyer of that supposedly hacked item will have no idea what the hell the item is since it's a tampered class). So basically you're telling me that they were able to patch the game on Nexon's side and another player's side while Nexon's servers are running and while the player's game is running and not cause some kind of crash or server error?

Its real simple. If you kill the little slimes the come out of King Slime after kill the King Slime in Kerning PQ. You are going to get hacked (and get a bad prize). If you don't kill the little slimes you will get a good prize and you won't get hacked.

Trying not to get angry on how uneducated this opinion is, making the user look retarded...

The main factors of hacking:

Social Engineering
Reverse Computer Engineering
Trickery

You cannot break everything with hacks in the computer world, even the hack has to follow the limitations of what the program is made of. If the mesos was set to a 32-bit signed integer (which it is), the values can only be −2,147,483,648 to +2,147,483,647. Any more or less, is NOT possible. I could go into alot more ways of hacking and what is possible / not possible, but I think it would be too much here.

The more common factors of hacking are Social Engineering, getting to know the person, and finding information about them, leading into breaking into certain accounts.

Trickery really works on a Naive person, but I hope one actually reads what Nexon does say, trust no one with your account information.

These are the only things that are really used, just simple stuff, the main part is on to hack someone's account is this question: "How stupid is the user?"

Usually, for all my friends and me, it's giving out account info to friends. I got hacked twice and I didn't even know what hit me.
