There is no possibility that someone who has these equips/cubes/whatever didn't do the exploit themselves (or hand it over to someone who did, which is essentially the same thing). If they were truly interested in making the game playable again, they would. Of course, they won't.

Spoiler
Someone posted that on Reddit but we'll see if they actually go through with it.

TugboatWilly Wrote: That's still not really a proper punishment, though. Ban, remove, unban...how is that any different than just removing them? Overall, players who abused once again are going unpunished. Everyone who abused this should be banned, forever. What's to stop them from trying again, next time? Next time they might get away with it, too. That's the problem. There's no reason to not exploit, besides compromising your own code of honor.

There was a trading exploit too.

Banning would be a tough line to cross, because I'd imagine that the first few people who found this exploit didn't necessarily have ill intentions, they just tried to sell back a cube to see what would happen. Also, it's not as if they used an illegal programs to do this, and you can't really blame children playing an online game to have a lapse of integrity and take advantage of a Nexon screwup.
I'm not sure why its necessary to ban and then unban accounts, possibly because having a banned account puts you on a "watchlist" with less of a grace period if you get caught exploiting or doing something bad a second time. Also having an account that's never been banned before has been necessary for selection for things like Nexon employment, MWLB volunteering, and being a tester. Not to say that what these people did is excusable, but I believe that it would be very difficult to ban people without a quarter of them being unfairly banned.

Vague as always, Nexon...

A bit naive of me to say, but I hope the game's up when I wake up...

It's not really that hard. Create a requirement that determines if they're clearly exploiting a glitch/bug or not. That's it. "Did they abuse this glitch at least 5 times? If so, ban." This glitch is about getting cubes from the cash shop when they shouldn't be available, right? So everyone who has massively cubed gear, or an excessive number of cubes in their inventory is clearly abusing this glitch. Sure, there can be some edge cases, but Customer Service exists for a reason and should be able to handle it. It's a little harsh, I agree, but there has to be a line. Right now, there isn't one. There's absolutely nothing that will happen to me if I were to have abused this glitch. So why wouldn't I? The only thing that stops me is that I have a moral compass and it directs me away from abusing glitches. Nothing in the game prevents me from doing it, and nothing the administration of the game does is preventing me from doing it. There's not even the question of, "What if I get banned?" I won't. Because Nexon never bans people unless they commit unspeakable acts (or Nexon pineapples up), of which glitching and abusing glitches is not included. I know I'm being pretty demanding about it, but one of the reasons I don't normally even play this game anymore is because there's no proper management. This is the thousandth time there's been a thread or server shutdown over some serious problem in the game. Nexon never does anything about it. If they want to Reboot MapleStory, they have to start with Rebooting themselves. They need to get an iron fist and start smashing people in the face with it. Right now, I see nothing that makes me really want to play Reboot, because the management is still piss-poor. I expect bugs, and I expect glitches. It's an old game, and Nexon is infamous for not fixing them. But what I also expect is that Nexon takes proper action. They should be banning offenders, forever. They'd make more money off people believing that the game is worth their time and money than they lose from the glitchers and cheaters who also buy.

no you can get cubes with mesos.
this glitch allows you to get infinite cubes for free AND infinite mesos because you are literally being giving mesos instead of spending for buying cubes

I'm pretty sure people are much more likely to be banned for doing nothing by accidental glitches than for actually exploiting/abusing anything. Actually, exploiting is probably safer since you can appeal.

i wonder if this is also going to include a fix for the 150 box giving out meso bags that don't work, cubes not giving cube fragments, and not getting the mesos from the 150 box as well

They don't need to ban everyone who abused this glitch. But they need to ban enough people, especially the serious offenders, so that it becomes a real risk to abuse the next glitch to show up. Right now it's simply not.

They perma banned the people who abused the sh'it out of it and unbanned them a month (?) later because it was so many people. It'd be the same situation with this. Nexon can't afford to mass-ban as a company if they want to make money.

They could if they never let this happen in the first place. 90% of the game wouldn't be cheaters if they didn't allow cheaters to flourish. Sounds like a massive case of a snake eating its own tail. Eventually it kills itself.

They needed to have been acting with an iron fist years ago, and kept with it. They know the game is dying, they know letting cheaters get off scott-free is killing the game, but they are trying to drag the game out as long as possible to make the most money. And I think they're capable of dragging it out for several more years.

I feel like if they took Reboot literally for themselves as well as the game, they might be able to fix things to make the game enjoyable again. If the game is enjoyable again, people would naturally spend money on it. It's unlikely that that would happen, but one could always hope. |
