The article is clickbaity. I saw the interview, Owen never said he invented free-to-play or microtransactions, he came close but he only really said his company was the one that pioneered this kind of model (he also mentioned that it didn't start out as a business model, microtransactions came in completely by accident).

The author is stupid.
