Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion
>Implying racetracks consisting of a road with scenery is considerable content

I mean, I find Mario Kart just as stupidly fun as the next guy, but let's be real here - mk8 in particularly has very little content to it, and tracks honestly don't take much effort to create outside of the initial design process for the asthetics.

This is a money printing game akin to CoD and such. That is why the DLC costs so little. Development time is a lot more related to pricing than you realize. Also, making the entire cast of smash all together simultaneously is a lot easier to test and design than throwing in extras long after the fact.

The latest updates for both 3DS and Wii U versions are out for the DLC shop.
Mewtwo codes are being given now to those who registered both version before March 31st.

Spoiler: Mewtwo has no custom moves.

Ryu for smash? https://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comme.../?sort=new

don't really care about roy but mmmm ryu

I very much doubt they would have 2 characters called Roy.

We'll either have to wait for some confirmation from Nintendo or when more people look into the files.

I honestly would trust next to nothing from Reddit unless the individual has very large credibility.

Having played a lot of mewtwo in melee and pm at one point, i both love and hate the smash 4 version. It feels as if they nearly reversed mewtwo as they buffed dair, confusion, and weight, at the cost that his up smash, throws and tilts are nerfed

well tcrf.net a website very credible for posting hidden stuff from games confirmed that the ryu and roy stuff is in the 3ds files.

This. We'll see more people dig through the files, but so far it's seeming pretty legit. If Nintendo picks any other 3rd part reps, it'd most likely be with those they already have deals with. Also, I'd imagine that Capcom would originally push for Ryu rather than Megaman because they're asshats like that; but Nintendo wanted Megaman and made a deal to push Ryu as a DLC character.

Roy, eh, lazy moveset porting and decently requested as a veteran so wold have taken minimal effort really. I can't complain about him being in considering they probably made him as a filler so there's not too much time between character releases.

Only if you're an idiot and don't design your code to allow additions later.

Kunagisa Wrote:I think Mario Kart 8 really just...lacked content. Maybe this is unpopular opinion, but it feels really empty in terms of features, like it offers less than previous installments. That being said, characters are a lot more intricate than stages. With a stage, you pretty much have the base assets available to you that are globally used on all stages, just need to make the quirks and scenery. You don't have to worry about balancing, because it's a stage. There's not a lot that can mess up if you're using the assets already present, so play testing and bug fixing aren't too intensive. With a character, you have to actually balance it properly with the rest of the cast, make a lot of assets from scratch that are required for their unique mechanics, and playtest for a lot of potential bugs due to new mechanics added to the game. You have to test how their mechanics function with all the other characters. Overall I feel like a lot more work has to go into creating a smash character than creating a stage in MK8.

Most, if not all of the assets in the new DLC MK8 tracks are new.
Obviously a lot more work doesn't go in to making a smash character, otherwise it wouldn't only take roughly 1.5 months to make a character based on what was in the base game, where both the base MK8 game and first DLC pack suggested a track takes about a month. If development time is really so related to final DLC pricing, I'm still waiting to hear why the characters aren't £2 or less.

So you think the problem is the smash audience are idiots who will willingly massively overpay for things, like the CoD audience?
Fair enough.

edit: And Roy as an upcoming DLC character. Disappointing if only because it means we can't have more awkward zombie comics where Roy is continuely left out.

What the hell are you talking about regarding the game's code? Clearly it WAS designed to allow additions - the sirens for exactly that have been blaring since day one of the japanese game's release. Balancing an entire cast AROUND EACH OTHER is easier to do than adding in more characters later. Whether they intended for DLC characters later on or not doesn't magically make it easier or harder to make happen - They probably didn't even know who was going to BE DLC in the first place, just that it was extremely likely to happen. Quit pulling this 1.5months figure out of your ass. If it was actually a MEANINGFUL figure they wouldn't have taken 5 months to get Mewtwo out for one, and Lucas wouldn't be coming out in June - He'd already be out. Have you ever considered the current dev team was potentially shrunk after the game's release? There's always that as well.

Not to mention he's only 5 dollars if you buy him for both versions - They're two separate games.

Other fighters have been charging $5 per character for years - Jill and Shumagorath in MvC3, Yoda and Darth Vader in Soul Calibur, STREET FIGHTER <--- People pay 20+ dollars for literally recycled garbage on a new disc. I could find more if you'd like. This isn't new, people are willing to pay this much. And guess what? If that's what people are willing to pay, that doesn't make it "Over paying". That's how a market works. Whine about it all you want, either buy it or don't buy it. No one's forcing you.

Quick reminder that tomorrow, Mewtwo will be available for purchase by everyone, with a price of $3.99 for one version, and $4.99 for both versions.
Also, don't forget to update to version 1.0.7.

It's kind of funny people were freaking out over the Ryu and Roy "leak" when they were datamined over a month ago.

Roy is so fucking good now. Holy crap! He'll definitely be my choice over Marthcina now.

Ryu is pretty fun to play as well.

More than I'm willing to pay for a DLC character.
And not even a discount bundle for all 3 either.

Oh well.
