Legend of Zelda live-action series being planned!

The Wall Street Journal brings word today that Netflix is working closely with Nintendo to develop a live-action version of the classic game series “The Legend of Zelda.” The outlet reports that the series is being described as “Game of Thrones” for a family audience.

Netflix has begun searching for a writer on the project, which is said to still be in very early days. In addition, as WSJ notes, the project could never go far given Nintendo’s strict protection of adaptations of their properties. Check back here for further details on the series as we learn them.

First debuting for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, The Legend of Zelda has gone on to produce over twenty games and win countless awards. The latest version of the game is currently in development for the Wii U and targeting a release later this year.

I have never been more terrified for a fandom.

I have absolutely zero expectations for this. Hopefully this lives up to them.

Yes!!! I love the legend of Zelda, and Skyward Sword had me crying for more.

My only issue is during the games, the cutscenes are so awesome because you personally worked towards them... Not sure if I'll feel the same emotions in a cartoon type of setting, but I'm optimistic!

Live-action is not animation.

Skyward Sword is not a good base for a representation of the Zelda series at all.

This might be one of the worst things i have ever heard. I just can't see it turning out to be anything like a family friendly game of thrones.

Also I think they would have been better of picking another Nintendo franchise to make a TV show out of. Probably something like Metroid. Given that Samus is a bounty hunter that has much more scope for making episodes. Then again so is Captain Falcon. A gritty crime drama set in the world of F-Zero staring Captain Falcon. Yeah I think I want that now. Someone go make it.

I still believe in the concept that live action and non-realistic game/animation do and should not mix.

I never said live action was animation. I was comparing the emotions I got from cutscenes vs potential emotions via animation.

Additionally, I personally think Skyward Sword was one of the best LoZ games I've played, and I've played pretty much all of them except for the first few (I started at a Link to the Past or Link's Awakening, I forgot). A Link to the Past and A Link Between worlds were my two favorites. I wasn't arguing in the first place what the best representation was, but the art styles immediately made me think of Skyward Sword, and I loved that game so much. It's my own personal taste.

All I can think of is that crappy show they made back in the 80's when they say they're making a zelda show, with luck they'll just make some GoT rip-off with a LoZ skin.
