Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion
Well I always imagined it to be something like having four characters in FoD (Melee) completely lag out the game. Handling 8 characters on some potentially busy stages like Spirit Train while maintaining that 60fps...

Who really knows though?

It's probably the fact that they needed the 3DS version to run without a hitch and they couldn't pull it off with 8 cpu/4 ice climbers. It's probably why multiman mode has only 3 fighters instead of 5. Better to just not deal with it than trying to make it work I guess.

Though imo, I think Duck Hunt is simply a better NES representative and pays better tribute to that era while pulling off the duo-fighter thing better.

The WiiU can handle 8 Climbers though... maybe some WiiU exclusive DLC?

Also, one of my hugest regrets about Lucas not being in is that the PK kids team isn't possible anymore. No more healing shenanigans and PK Fires going off everywhere...

An irony I would like to point out is Lucas and Pokemon trainer were introduced together in the story mode, now they are cut together.

The story is much darker, the pokemon trainer abandoned charizard as he found lucas a better subsitute with his PK fire.

Surprised no one posted the pic of the day

Sakurai Wrote:Pic of the day. Now that the game is out in Japan, the Conquest mode will be available in online multiplayer in the Japanese version. This is what the title screen will look like for the overseas version. In this mode, the game aggregates global wins among specific teams during a limited time and determines the victor. If you choose a participating fighter from the With Anyone option, you'll automatically participate in Conquest. We'll be running Conquest in beta for a while.

Sakurai Wrote:Also, Conquest data where players seem to be losing on purpose will be removed from the calculations. And lastly, there's no point in working on this mode too much on your own, so don't overdo it…

So I should have gotten my copy of the game today, but FedEx didn't wait the ten seconds it takes to walk from my kitchen to my front door so that I could sign for the package for the game before running back to their truck and leaving...
And this is after they specifically called my house yesterday to ensure someone would be here to sign for the package.

More than a little pissed off about this.

They wanted to make sure that you won't be able to get your package on time.

Sakurai Wrote:Announcement: Originally, the pic of the day was only supposed to continue for about two months, but I've ended up posting pictures until even today. The 3DS version has already been released in Japan, so I would like to talk about how future posts will be handled.

First, I will not talk about hidden features until the game is released overseas. On the other hand, I definitely will talk about them after the game is released abroad.

In addition, I am planning to continue making posts at least until the Wii U version is released. I haven't decided if I'll go by the Japanese version release or the release of versions abroad, but the point is that I'll continue posting for a little bit longer.

Pic of the day won't focus on introducing new information anymore in the near future, but I hope to entertain you with interesting and funny photos like I originally intended to. Thanks.

He confirmed Japan is getting the Wii U version first. Was kinda hoping it'd be a worldwide release. :| Oh well.

On a semi-unrelated note.

I'm planning an SSB 3DS tourney to accompany the release of the game. I was thinking of sign ups starting in Sept. 19th and the actual tournament starting in October 6th-10th or so and will last however long. The general idea is that since there's a public demo out at Sept. 19th, people could use that time to practice with the controls etc.

How many of you guys are interested in an event like that? Also, would you guys like double or single elimination bracket format? Just want to gauge interest. The dates and stuff isn't final, just an initial draft.

I'm definitely interested! I'd say a double elimination bracket so we get more games in and to avoid any cheap deaths booting someone out, especially since some people may not be entirely comfortable with the controls that soon after the release.

I'm definitely down. I'd say double elimination as well.

As much as I was disappointed at the loss of the Waddle throw for Dedede, his new Spiny is a fantastic replacement. It's an amazingly useful weapon. I love it. And his new Final Smash is pretty cool. I approve of his changes.

If I can play with you guys from the JP version, I am down with that. Probably can't, though.

^I have a feeling you can play against anybody, once the game has been released everywhere!

I'd only suggest double elimination once the TO has an idea on everybody's skill levels. That's typically the point of pools or seeding so that the more skilled players don't face each other right off the bat.

If numbers are low to moderate, round robin is the way to go but I would suggest that anyway unless we have an obscene amount of entrants. Since this is strictly online, timing constraints is not an issue. That would make future tournaments a bit more fair when we start using double elimination bracket. Just my two cents, but regardless of what happens I'd love the chance to play everybody (and get wrecked) Smile

I dunno. I'm just considering the combined facts of the 3DS being region locked, US + EU being together usually online, but not US + EU + JP, and above all that, Nintendo sucks at networking so it will likely be laggy if it has to go through a server and isn't Peer-2-Peer.

I was thinking of going double elimination for the fair chance thing. Getting eliminated right off the bat is an unfortunate event. Also, I was thinking of only doing double elimination if the number of attendees was a good number. i.e. 2^n +/- 2. Otherwise I was going to suggest using swiss-style tournament and then get the top 4 (or 8) to compete with single elimination bracket.

We don't have a good measure of skill level yet. I don't think that should rule out using double elimination though. There's nothing inherently wrong with blind draw IMO.

Multiplayer is not region locked. It was confirmed earlier. I've seen a lot of streams of NA people playing with JP people with little lag. Online seems good this time around so I'm excited.

I think because there is no measure of skill that we should consider determining that first, and then start with double elimination bracket. Both can be done in the same tournament. But anyway, just wanted to share my thoughts and it doesn't really matter to me how the tournament is run. Good for you for taking the initiative though!
