One of the only animated males that I consider to be more kirito than kirito.

He even has the edgy grimdark backstory to go with his gary stu powers.

I finished reading the enrollement arc manga yesterday and I'm considering starting to read the visual novel making it the first visual novel I'd ever read. The female uniforms is the best thing of the whole thing

Yes Tatsuya is such a badass and an example of a true main character to some other similar series out there (cough* freezing cough* maken-ki cough*) but his lack of emotions can really get annoying at times.

Tatsuya's "badass" persona is entirely made up in the viewer's own mind, he legitimately has no emotions, he's just a puppet whose only goals in life are to support his sister (who is from an important family, he's basically programmed to be her slave). You merely think he is cool when in reality he is nothing, he is not even capable of making decisions for himself, his only point of reference on whether or not he is doing something correctly is his sister's reaction.

Irony.

The anime is about how he is a noble high achieving God-tier magician that is essentially mislabeled as a course two student. However in truth his entire personality is supposed to be emotionless therefore making it pointless to even understand him through the whole 'discrimination' angle since he can't even have the run off feelings that come from discrimination. Either making one hell of a point to people who face discrimination (why don't you just stop being a b****) or being a failure on the writer to create a character like Tatsuya as the target of discrimination.

This is what makes Mahouka so great. It's an absolute mess but carries on with an absolute straight face.

Best moment: Basically there's a creeper who appears to be much older than the girl he is hitting on and is obviously creeping on this girl trying to get her on a date when he knows nothing about her:



So we're all like, "Haha, this guy is a total creep. What a gag. Hahaha. Ha ha ha."

And then the anime proceeds to spend, I don't know, the next two to four minutes of the girl laying down showing her butt from a zoomed out position and switching to landscape before zooming in all the way (unnecessarily):



This is Mahouka tier genius.

He wasn't stripped of all emotions. He was stripped of the strongest emotions, except with regard to his sister's wellbeing. In other words, he is perfectly capable of hating a person if that person is a threat to his sister. He also likes to tease people every now and then because he finds it amusing (most of which the anime cut out). If he was completely emotionless, he wouldn't do that.

He can make decisions for himself. He's done so multiple times. If his sister wasn't there to push him into joining the competition, he wouldn't have. In fact, he was ready to get the hell out of there before they pulled him into it, but his objection was overruled by his sister.
