Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion

Sakurai Wrote:Pic of the day. Here's a new item that we've thrown in--the boomerang. As you'd guess, it'll fly back into your hands after you throw it, and if you keep catching it, its attack power grows with each throw! However, opponents can nab the boomerang out of the air, so it might be an easier item to use in Smash Run.

So link and toon link can now double boomerangs.

Wonder how quickly its knock back power scales with each throw... and if it can break after a certain amount of throws or not (3 maybe, like in MK8?)

that mario stage feels... small to me, veritcally at least.

Sakurai Wrote:We've added a familiar setting from the Fire Emblem series, the Coliseum. In the original game, this place is filled with both hope and despair. There is machinery in the ground that activates variable platforms.

Looks like a walkoff. Banned.

Also, Ike's so dreamy. *swoon*

Walk offs are only really banned because of infinite chaingrabs in brawl from falco, ddd, ice climbers, etc who can easily grab you and just carry you off the stage though. We haven't seen ice climbers yet so hopefully chaingrabs won't be such a problem that it was in the past to warrant walk offs being banned.

I found this at nintendo world.

Luckily even if an infinite chain grab does rear its ugly head, it'll more than likely get patched out anyway. Unlike Brawl this version of smash can be readily patched as needed. So crap like that isn't gonna fly.

But chain grabbing has always been the entire point of ICs and other grabs usually end at a specific percent. Falco usually gets 50-60% off his dthrow, and ddd gets a fair bit off it but not too much. It isn't a bad concept but it was just grossly common in brawl especially in ICs whose grab as a whole is an infinite.

No one can really say that ICs were designed with chain grabbing in mind. There's a reason your character flies backwards away from the opponent when you escape from the grab. So that you can't be immediately grabbed again. If you get grabbed again it should be your fault, not some inescapable infinite that is a guaranteed stock loss. That's just stupid.

There are infinites/chain grabs in other fighters. ICs are designed with chain grabbing in mind. Flying backwards when you grab is separate from the idea of chain grabbing. Flying backwards when you escape is the reward for mashing out of the grab at low percents to avoid a stock loss. I agree that it is stupid as do many people, but the concept isn't bad nor is it new.

You're jumping the gun assuming stuff will be patched, just because it's no longer impossible.

It took them ~6 months to patch a gamebreaker on one of MK7s tracks, and we have no idea whether Nintendo will patch the extend boosting via hopping glitch/*unintentional mechanic* on MK8

Sakurai Wrote:Pic of the day. Remember the video that introduced Greninja joining the battle? Every Pokémon that appeared in that video will make some kind of appearance in Super Smash Bros! By the way, here's one of the Pokémon that didn't make an appearance in that video--Meloetta. Its vocal attacks reflect off land forms, so they'll be especially effective in a closed environment.

nono, read both posts again, he says they'll make an appearance somehow in the game, this means:
playable, background characters, stage hazards etc. there's a lot of places to put pokemons besides pokeballs

I wish they'd do something silly to goldeen... for instance for goldeen to have a random chance of using horn drill to ohko someone whenever it comes out.
