Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion
Takebacker Wrote:I'm actually more concerned about the fact that they pick one character and one character only

I don't think they're going to be allowed to pick the character either. They might be dealt out randomly or something, or they play some behind the scenes first and whoever does best gets first choice so on.

16 players + 1 fan voted bracket (presumably another 4 person round) = 20 characters. Which is the same as the number of playable characters included in this demo, so I think everyones getting handed one character and told to play with that person.

Good luck to the person who ends up getting Link, lol.

edit:
Quote:On the morning of the tournament, each player will draw a number from a hat, ranging from 1 through 16. Players will then pick characters one by one based on their numerical order starting with 1. After a character is chosen, they are no longer selectable by any other player. Players must keep the same character throughout the entire event.

Yeah this is exactly what i thought would happen after i saw the video. Nintendo must RRREEEAAAAALLLLLYYYYYYYYY have some confidence in the balance between characters in this game to be doing this. I understand that they're just promoting the game in all the ways it can be played, which is awesome given the players, but that question as well as competitive viability is probably what everyone there is going to want to answer.

Also i'm sad mew2king didn't make it... Sad I guess they didn't want him tearing apart the mechanics of the game during the event lol

edit:
Quote: 2nd place scores have the following tiebreakers:
Most Kills
If the number of Kills are tied, 2nd place will be determined by fan vote

Lolwut

Actually, the fan vote tournament sounds awesome. Can't wait for E3

Lozmaster Wrote:The point is the smash bros community will never stop fawning over the gamecube controller and will gladly pay money to not have to leave the last decade. I might not bother with it because I already have 4 classic controller pros from my wii which I can use, but if you don't have 4 controllers for wii u already, there's a good chance it's cheaper to buy this adapter.

It will only work for games programmed to use it, and nothing else.

Maybe, MAYBE it could be detected as a classic controller and also support those games, but it's still a trigger and select button short for that.

The other option is maybe gamecube virtual console support is coming soon and that would be an obvious use of this.

I hope it'll support other games at least, I don't want to spend 30$+ on a unitasker, no matter how good SSB is.

The controller that just wouldn't die. Nintendo sure are going out of their way to try and please the smash bros faithful.

Good time to add gamecube virtual console games.

If they aren't allowed to practice on these characters days before the event it wont be any better than an exhibition. Anyway I'll watch for Megaman alone.

More interesting than an exhibition imo. They're probably going to stretch the 5 minute timer REAL thin during the first 2 matches in order for everyone to feel around a bit if they really had no experience with the game beforehand. I imagine they must have had some test time. How exciting could an entire tournament centered around "performing with the most heart, courage, creativity, and style" be if none of them have any character fundamentals outside general smash brothers knowledge? Especially for those that get the newcomers.

Was wondering so long about what the bottom screen would show, and this seems good enough. Nice and big damage percents, and I guess maybe Little Mac's meter.

So sad that I will be busy during the livestream. Rooting for aMSa !

They should just market the Gamecube controller with the game already

Is it supposed to be a moving stage? The platforms make me think no, but the boxes throw me off a little.

If it's not, it looks kinda bland honestly.

I think it'll transform like the Pokemon Stadium stages.

I don't think it will move, but almost all of the mario stages before were moving walk offs so who knows really.

Oh true, it might be like that one Sunshine level that changes every 20ish seconds.

It's probably like the fire emblem.isle delfino stages in brawl, where it changes every so often.

It would be interesting if you could hit kamek and prevent her casting the spell to keep the stage as it is.

I wish someone would make a figurine like that in real life and send it to sakurai...
