Donald Sterling

Uh, it's written into a contractual law that he not only signed but helped shape over the course of his time on the board of governors. The facts are simple, he's been given ample leeway in the past to handle his affairs in court with zero acts on behalf of the commissioner and the NBA. He got busted AGAIN (regardless of whether it was said in private), and it's something that clearly could not just be ignored or swept under the rug.

It's not establishing of some new found precedent, these are rules that are already written into their bylaws and being enforced to their strictest extent. I'd expect nothing less.

At some point you're going to stop arguing things just for the sake of being the regent idiot who tries to side with someone or something who/which is blatantly wrong (in almost all situations). You have this tendency to try and play devil's advocate in every god forsaken argument. It's annoying as pineapple.

That and the girlfriend is in fact being sued by the wife, although she alleges that the conversation was not secretly recorded (probably explains his lack of defense).

article Wrote:The Commissioner shall have the power to suspend for a definite or indefinite period, or to impose a fine not exceeding $1,000,000, or inflict both such suspension and fine upon any person who, in his opinion, shall have been guilty of conduct prejudicial or detrimental to the Association.

Seems like it's pretty obvious to me.

Interedrasting, didn't see that. So he has the legal recourse to do so (though isn't he fining the guy for 2.5M, that's over 1M?). I still don't agree with it, but if people all decided that's what's best and it's not just an off the cuff decision, then alright.

ImagineAll Wrote:You have this tendency to try and play devil's advocate in every god forsaken argument. It's annoying as pineapple.

Devil's advocate implies I'm just saying things to give the opposite viewpoint nobody else takes because nobody else takes it, and not because I actually think that way. I promise I'm not trolling, no matter what you may think; you can call me an idiot about everything you disagree with me about, I would MUCH rather be called an idiot than a troll.

ESPN Wrote:Under the provisions of the bylaws, Silver has two sets of powers that he may use. Under either, he can issue a lifetime suspension and a substantial fine. Under Paragraph 24(l) of the constitution that was adopted by the NBA owners on Oct. 26, 2005, he can issue a fine of up to $2.5 million, can suspend an owner indefinitely and can order the forfeiture of draft picks. This provision applies to situations that are not covered by specific rules within the constitution. In another provision, Paragraph 35(A)©, Silver can issue an indefinite suspension and a fine of $1 million to any owner who "makes ... a statement having or designed to have an effect prejudicial or detrimental to the best interests of basketball." If Silver wants to hammer Sterling, he can assert that Sterling's statements are so egregious that they go beyond the misconduct contemplated in Paragraph 35 and allow Silver to assess the greater penalties found in Paragraph 24. Sterling can argue that he merely made a statement, but the statement at a minimum allows a lifetime suspension and a $1 million fine.

K, excuse me for thinking that you're smarter than you appear.

.

I mean this happened like over the weekend, they didn't do this until yesterday I think? And I think its a combination of fines, that was just part of the article specifically for that. To be honest I find the fine petty, but it's there in print so not much I can say

Donald Sterling's net worth is nearly $2 billion. A $2.5 million fine is a slap on the wrist.

It was the maximum. And the monetary fine isn't what's relevant, the lifetime ban and the calling for a vote to force the sell of the franchise is the true fine.

It's still pretty draconian.

The 2.5m? Or do you mean the forced sale of the franchise?

It's not really given the repeated offenses and the reaction from the players. When you have teams willing to boycott games during the playoffs which are undoubtedly the most profitable part of the season for the NBA, it makes perfect sense to appease them.

Not just that, his insight always runs counter to what everyone else contributes because he sees the truth while everyone else adds on to a collective sense of ignorance. If it wasn't for Flonne then the discussion would simply just be one-sided bias. Every time I see Flonne in a thread, it makes me think that the thread is going to move in a more constructive direction. Not to offend you but I don't think you could ever get on Flonne's level. He's just that deep. Not that you're not a deep person, you're just not Flonne deep.

All this time I had been struggling with life, until recently I realized that what I had been fighting all this time was myself and my flawed view of the world. It was then that I began to accept Flonne and study his posts to have a greater understanding of his greater thought process. Being into Flonne I can say that there is a level of enlightenment that you wouldn't gain by walking in the way of the world and my life is far more enriched than has ever been before after openly accepting him with all my being as a Lord of insight and a savior of the spirit. For example, ImagineAll's statements were fueled by a thought oriented process that Flonne is a person and not a way of life, his humanistic style of thinking may get him into trouble if he doesn't take on a more philosophically open and morally ambiguous approach to avoiding potential problems by having an incredibly lax sense of actual boundaries created by flawed stipulations to keep him chained to the world. On issues of racism, I don't even see, taste, or smell race. I don't even know what race I am, it's irrelevant to me. You can associate with any race you want and I'm okay with that because I've transcended that level and am pursuing a deeper spiritual truth that can only be reached through Flonne-ism.
