Why do we play Maplestory?
Lozmaster Wrote:Don't tar all mobile games with the same brush. There are plenty of decent games (though they aren't generally f2p) such as TWEWY iOS, or the phoenix wright trilogy.

Those are ports.

For fun and entertainment generally. To waste time or have something to do when we are bored. To challenge ourselves or escape from a greater challenge. All depends on the person, situation, and game.

Don't forget that CDnF is still very popular, even with American players. It even offers in-game gold conversion to the Chinese equivalent of "NX," and the rate isn't half bad if you make it to end-game and spend time farming gold. If I'm not mistaken, ALL items in the cash shop can be purchased with the converted currency, but don't quote me on that, I'm not 100% certain.

been failing since the big bang........ its used to be all about team work talking and exploring no one cared
now its all about max leveling since it go so much faster attk range and Nx

still feel no achievement because all it does make people hunger for more and spend more money....

the game was once all about patience time and team work....
wasnt all about how strong u are or how fast you can get to level 200 !

they realize it was the few noobs who cried about not leveling and not getting stronger.... so they instead of naturally doing it nexon made it possible by making them spend money......
or you can save your money and spend your whole life trying to atleast maintain with the NX players.... what i mean by nx players not spending a few dollarz im talking about hundreds and thousands.....

Dredragon Wrote:The only thing I even enjoyed about maple was just the new classes they made and how shiny everything was. I'm a huge fan of pixel games and rpg side scrollers. But when you realize that to even do anything now you need nx, it's no fun thinking about trying to get stronger, or the higher up bosses. I just played through the content I could, tried all the quests and used my meso on perm nx clothes from the FM. The way everything is priced, it really is demoralizing when you actually want to get stronger. I've only ever had a max of like 200mil and couldn't do much with it, and that's because you can't even really get anything good from within the game if you don't spend nx. Even a free market place shop would help.

I really think the only reason I stayed is because I like to have a good rpg to play after DFO closed. I remember I went into irc one day and then said I was looking for a good rpg, and obviously an answer i got was maple. But then i remember why I didn't think of maple when I was looking, because of how hard it really is to end game it. In dfo you could get most of the cash shop stuff from other players in the game with a pretty reasonable price, and everyone had a somewhat equal chance of being strong, at least I thought so. You just need to find special drops from monsters in dungeons that arne't too rare, bring some money and go to kiri the harvester of souls to upgrade your stuff. Yea, the higher the weapon the harder it is, but that was available to everyone easily.

If dfo wasn't closed, I wouldn't even look at maple, but I enjoy a good rpg, and Latale is weirdish and not very popular, unlike maple.

lol everyone was excited about the new classes i was jumping up down ( i was a kid) ..... but then as new classes came out i was realizing all it do is lower the value the other classes..... its like an on going process now...

You aren't even clever enough to reach the conclusion that it wasn't big bang that suddenly started the fall of maplestory. Then you try to blame people whining that the game is too hard? Do you even know what the hell you're talking about?

we can private message if you want and have a verbal talk and u can say as much as you like... no need to hide behind keyboards talking pomegranate... i can say my opinion.... but if i disagree with someone else opinion im not going to get mad and call them an idiot or call them dumb... or say they not clever because clearly i dont know that person....

A lot of the dfo players transferred over to cDnf ( those that couldn't acquire an account for dnf) and I do recall you could buy the keys (gachapon related) for the chests in gold.

Please dennyr your posts are so one sided that it honestly is impossible to even refute your statements.

Maplestory used to be better before Big Bang, we need to bring Beta back.

Way do it halfway? Lets just jump right back to alpha, I'm sure it will be better than even the beta everyone loves so much.

Clearly maple was best when it didnt exist

Now I wonder if the guys who were developing this game at alpha were targeting this game to be as P2W as it is now.

Actually, the way MapleStory is written, it appears the original version was meant to be a peer-to-peer kind of system, with the server, if any, only being a database and/or largely transparent communication switchboard. Like a toy some college students wrote to play with each other.
Then someone must have said "this game is so cool, I bet a lot of other people would like to play it, maybe we can even make a bit of money", and the rest is history.
It didn't scale well at all.

Foolyz Wrote:League of Legends is not an MMORPG. Guild Wars 2 requires an initial purchase, although I think that is negligible and I was about to mention it myself but you beat me to it. GW2 is a great F2P game, and paying has no game-breaking ways to get ahead. I mean, I haven't played in a while, but I have friends who play frequently and they say it's a nice atmosphere.

Just looked back into GW2 the other day myself.

The cash shop is still purely cosmetic/flair. You can buy some fancy PvP Kill Animations, unique dyes, and stuff like that but there's no advantage from buying vs just playing.

GW2 continues to impress, even though I haven't played it seriously in a while.

Honestly, I would consider any B2P game in the F2P field. They require an initial purchase, but it's, as you said, negligible in comparison to what P2P games cost, especially if the game is older. GW2 costs like $20 or $30 now. Two months later you can still play it and pay nothing to do so, unlike P2P's. If that initial cost is what separates a great game from a time waster, then I will happily pay it.

That's not true. MapleStory was probably best immediately after BigBang (in my opinion). Potential wasn't out of hand yet, there weren't a billion classes like there are now (There were a lot, but it's a lot worse now), and they removed the biggest walls that made the game unenjoyable (like having to spend a life and a half to get 120 and actually see all the skills). From there things spread out of control like a wildfire.

But without Maplestory this community wouldn't have existed, and I wouldn't give it up for the world.

They probably just thought there'd be hats and nothing more. Sad

but its amazing they made it p2w when it "seemed" they were making alot of money all my online friends and most of the community bought nx... i mean there were people who didnt buy nx.. but it was alot of people who did... i mean was nexon not making enough profit?

And?
I don't see why a game being multiformat is a downside?

Frankly, we should see more 3ds/phone multiformat games and I don't understand why we don't. Then, there is of course the fact that they're bringing the iOS version of PW trilogy to the 3DS, so they're porting it in the other direction to what you're thinking.
