You may have seen the news about the Heartbleed bug, which has left passwords, credit card numbers and other personal information at risk across numerous sites. Nexon has already taken the necessary steps to fix this bug in our network, and your information is safe with us. We do recommend changing your password and PIC for extra protection though.

How to protect yourself on other sites:
  • Log out of all accounts, then change your passwords after the site has issued a patch for Heartbleed.
  • Make sure to select a password that is long and mixed with letters, numbers and special characters. To play it safe, we recommend you change your password every three months.
  • To verify that a site has fixed the bug, look for the padlock at the bottom right-hand corner of your browser that tells you your session has been encrypted using an SSL product.
  • Please remember to monitor sensitive accounts, especially those containing financial information, to check for suspicious activity.
You can find a list of sites affected here. Additionally, the site LastPass has created a Heartbleed checker, which lets you enter the URL of a site to verify whether or not it’s affected, and if the site has issued a patch for the bug: https://lastpass.com/heartbleed/.

Stay safe, Maplers!

...and for those that were curious that tried to check the MapleStory site:

Quote:Detected server software of LastPass
That server is known to use OpenSSL and could have been vulnerable.

The SSL certificate for http://www.maplestory.nexon.net was regenerated 1 day ago at Apr 8 18:22:02 2014 GMT which is likely regenerated after heartbleed bug was published, they've updated their SSL certificate which likely means they've taken steps to reduce their ongoing risk from heartbleed!

So... chances are we all might want to change our passwords. Maybe.

None of the sites I use are on that list, lucky me I guess. (Well, I use Yahoo but I haven't actually signed into Yahoo for months.)

So as long as nexon doesn't apply a fix, changing our pw's will be pointless?
