Dear Maplers,

In January 2013, Nexon America updated its banning guidelines for MapleStory. The intention behind this revision was to create a more transparent and fair system which punished serious offenders but also reduced the number of first time offenders being hit with permanent bans. While we still want to keep strict penalties in place to deal with the most toxic players we also want to retain as many good players in the community as possible. You can review the full guidelines here: http://support.nexon.net/ics/support/kbanswer.asp?deptID=19000&task=knowledge&questionID=2553

Following these revisions we want to look at how we deal with players currently serving lifetime bans under the old system to evaluate if they deserve a second chance to become upstanding members of the Maple community. Some of you will be aware of the Second Chance program we ran for MapleStory late last year. Out of the thousands of players unbanned in this amnesty, less than 2\% reoffended, while the others were converted into positive players.

Based on the success of this program we are planning to extend it to cover many more players who were banned for lesser offenses. Starting today, our Customer Support team has additional staff working between 10am and 6pm Pacific, Monday to Friday, when players will be able to send a ticket request to have their accounts unbanned. Final decisions will be at the Games Master’s discretion but all players with the exception of those banned for the most serious offenses should be eligible.

It is our hope that like the Second Chance players, anyone unbanned in this wave will become positive players and help to keep the Maple community a vibrant, fun place to be.

-The MapleStory Team

The MapleStory player population must be seriously low for Nexon to be doing this again.

Awaiting players in Khaini/Scania/etc to talk about all of the obvious dupers/hackers who are getting all their characters unbanned.

Mazz; Yes, I saw that earlier on the forums. Could be finally confirming our belief that NX spenders have a higher priority.

It hasn't ever only been a 'belief', iirc Eos; posted something somewhere about Parature (the customer services company thing) having a part of their terms of use that states they can prioritise tickets based on certain conditions, NX use being one of them.

Really now? Thanks for the info, I'd definitely need to find it and see it for myself. Monocle

Can't find where I read it but I'm sure I did, I think it was a few months ago now. They never made it quite this obvious before though.

According to the last community managers that priority has been wiped iirc

Why else would that be a separate question on the ban/rank appeal form? They already have a place to appeal for billing related bans, and most of those bans cause you to be unable to log into your account on the website anyway, you just email about it directly.

I don't see the point of this. Anyone who was banned long ago and never unbanned would have either quit the game or started another account. The ones who quit will not be coming back because of this, they have moved on. For the ones who restarted, their old accounts would be worthless to them now. The main ones to benefit from this would be actual dupers who may suddingly find their mule accounts full of mesos or stacks of scrolls released.

Originally it was about large nx buyers, which would get priority. I can't think of any company that doesn't put paying customers a priority, so think of it as two classes of players rather than 3.

All 3 community managers we've had revealed to us that was the original "priority", but as of recently as summer of 2012 that priority has been dropped apparently.
