How rare are they?

Not that rare. On My nub Assasin, when I was farming Typhoon Eggs, they dropped every few minutes, That was, before the patch.

do you think a level 99 priest can kill them?

Just find someone training there (generally DK/CB/Archer), most of them will let you loot the feathers free & it takes maybe 20-25 minutes if you find someone decently strong.

Long as you can hit them, you won't have trouble - best strategy is to gather a large mob, then fall to the bottom and spam either a potion or a buff. This causes you to stay in-map, and all the typhons will come down to the bottom for your killing ease.

a 99 priest can definitely kill them though, without help, im a lvl 83 priest and i can kill them. O.o
just go up to a platform that juts out from the side of the map (on the left) and stand on there, that way you wont get blown off the side, and if you do, you simply land on a platform with a typhon egg and you can easily get back up.
