[Complete] Unscheduled Maintenance - February 12, 2014

This is getting a little ridiculous... or maybe I'm just not understanding the magnitude of the situation, since I was only on long enough to set up my shop.

Hope you all love 2x events cause we're getting a bunch of those later this week...

I am fairly sure it would take a micro-patch on the servers to fix the resale prices on the Alien gear. Adjusting the drop rate can probably be tuned easily (though I hope they don't since it probably also affects the quest items like the Elpam Magnets) but changing the drop table for a mob completely would take a server patch also (not a client patch). The Alien gear problem may be the primary reason they had to take down the server, but it's probably the BF and HH spawn problem that's keeping it down. Those are obviously bugged and need to be fixed.
I hope the fix is not to remove the drops from the aliens. I was really happy to see them. I would really like the fix to be just a resale value change.

I might have missed the reason, but do we even know what the USC is all about or are we just assuming it has to do with the VPQ items and their NPC sell value?

Which could refer to pretty much anything involving items. Including items with a higher than intended drop rate and/or sell price.

Maybe they are banning/investigating anyone related to those items?

Now the thing is that we are 99% sure that one problem was the sell price (100k-600k) of the alien weapons.

The question then is if the drop rate or even the fact that the aliens started to drop the weapons was a mistake. Because there is a lot of people that started to sell the weapons for mesos but also the ones that started to farm them looking for an specific weapon for personal use.

they shouldn't ban people for taking advantage of their mistakes i mean if it is targeted about the whole NLC and the crazy drop rate no one farmed for them ill-legitly, if anything they're just going to rollback..

Except it happens with nearly every patch, so it may as well just be a scheduled post patch SC with its TBD end time.

[Complete] The maintenance is complete as of 7:55 PM Pacific. Cash items in your inventories have been extended to cover the amount of time the game was unavailable, plus 24 hours from 10:45 AM on February 12.

We will be performing an unscheduled maintenance on February 12, 2014 to investigate a possible item exploit. It will last approximately TBD.

What will be unavailable:

• All MapleStory game servers.
  

Changes and Updates:

• Unwelcome Guest and VIP equipment will no longer drop from the Alien monsters. We are investigating these items further.
  
• The monsters Headless Horseman and Bigfoot will no longer spawn multiple monsters when attacked.
  
• Premium Surprise Style Boxes were rewarding items that weren't on the list. This has been fixed.
  

Premium Surprise Style was obviously what was delaying the maint.

NLC drop rate is still pretty high.

Why didn't they roll the upcoming scheduled maintenance into the same time period as the game update maintenance? Why are they having scheduled maintenances in the same week?
