It's that time of year again, the time of year when the lovely folks from Speed Demos Archive, Speed Runs Live, and various other groups are getting together in order to raise money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
It's going to be a seven day long marathon, starting at 11AM EST on the 5th of January, of non-stop speed runs for well over 100 games. For those of you who watched Summer Games Done Quick, think of that as a warm-up compared to AGDQ.
Over all of the Games Done Quick events held so, they've managed to raise over $1,000,000 total for various charities, such as Doctors Without Borders, the Prevent Cancer Foundation, and the Organization for Autism Research.
Back in July, during Summer Games Done Quick, Twitch.tv made a deal to donate $5,000 for every 5,000 concurrent viewers. I would not be surprised if the same happened again for Awesome Games Done Quick, so please come check it out if you've got the time.
For more information, you can check out their website: http://gamesdonequick.com/
The schedule can be found here.
EDIT: AGDQ is now finished!
Here's the VOD list if you guys want to see any runs you missed: http://www.reddit.com/r/speedrun/comment...ds_thread/

Has things changed recently? I remember reading Mirrored more or less left the speedrunning community after the drama that occurred.

Mirrored is no longer a part of the speedrunning community.

This is something i have gotten into in the past few months. I love the fact that you made a thread about this because otherwise i probably wouldn't have watched it live at all.
Excited to see cosmo and whoever else is doing a game i love who i don't know well enough to call out by name.

Miles, kirbymastah, cosmo
will definitely be watching them at the very least
edit:
i remember watching that stream live with cosmo and mirrored. I thought he was being a bit rude, he cut off cosmo a few times but whatever. Cosmo said something, he looked annoyed, mirrored seemed to have learned his lesson. Didn't realize such a huge sh'itstorm came up from that.

It really only escalated too far, because Cosmo's fans / followers went ballistic against Mirrored and started going all negative nancy on his ass, on I believe his twitch.tv channel.

Cosmo didn't even seem like he wanted to even be at that event when I saw it. From the get-go he had 0 enthusiasm and rarely even spoke up. Mirrored essentially saved that run commentary-wise. It's a shame fanboys are complete pineappleheads. The speedrunning "community"; i.e. the people who watch, not actually run seem to be pretty toxic. They just pick "their favorite" and say pineapple every other runner. Even that poor guy Blueglass gets a lot of unnecessary flack literally for just being a nice person. I've seen people talk pomegranate about him just because of his laugh for pineapple's sake.
Anyway, glad I can watch one of these live since I only recently discovered these events I haven't seen any other than what's posted on their Youtube channel. Hope I don't miss too much good stuff while I sleep.

Just realized that there isn't a single Final Fantasy game on the schedule. That seems very weird to me.
I'm also a little disappointed that they didn't include Rockman IV Minus Infinity, but meh.

Watching the Pikmin 3 run and I can't tell what's more obnoxious:
- People in chat complaining about the game being boring
- People in chat complaining about the people in chat complaining about the game being boring
- People in chat making stupid Chuggaaconroy references

The trick is to go on the gamesdonequick site rather than twitch, and join their IRC channel instead of twitch chat. Much better chat experience in there.

I don't think chats are ever a good experience for events and tournaments and such.
