looks like it's been abused privately for months.
nothing new there, just makes me sick how much damage can be done with this. I don't even want to think about how many accounts are filled with this exploited stuff that won't get touched.
best of luck to nexon, however they go about attempting to mitigate the damage.

Does anyone know what nexon's capable of?
Like, can they see how much of a certain item someone has in their inventory or stuff like that?
Or trace down who used the hacked?

They are capable of great administrative tasks that would be required in this situation, however they are limited by their poor corporate structure and information sources.

They can see everything that's in the database, so of course they can tell how many of something people have. (If they make their queries correctly... they have been known to goof in the past).
As for who used the hack, that depends on what sort of logs they keep (of incoming packets, database transactions, etc) and how long.

So if I understand this correctly;
Like Mazz said; a rb would only fix a little bit of the the dmg that's been done.
So maybe if nexon tried to check their logs/database, they could actually fix a huge part of the problem, but they can't cause their corporate structure sucks and they have little to no info on what to do? :f6:

It depends on what you consider damage when considering what mazz said. To him he sees the fact that people have been doing this for months and know that several mules worth of illegal and "invisible" items can and probably will do more damage to the economy than the kind of immediate damage that it being public brings. Releasing the method ensures their items are safe because it's too big of a mess for nexon to hone in on them individually. The damage that has happened in the past 24-30 hours or so is relatively harmless in the case of rollback, but the other damage is impossible to correct with a rollback and must instead happen on a case by case basis which takes an exorbitant amount of time and effort in comparison.
On nexon's end...it's more like the individual branches suffer because of the way they communicate and because of a lot of other things. Korea doesn't ever have this problem yet they are most likely the only ones equipped to deal with it while also having no real information as to how our community works in these situations. There are also probably corporate level people who in the heat of unscheduled database purging would be putting pressure on tech people to maybe not do a total thorough job because the servers being up to do business is their highest priority. There's a lot of factors involved in the business world for this situation.

The information needed in order to track down who used the hack, where the items went, where the mesos went, etc, probably exists in the database and logs.
However, using it to actually track everything down, requires expertise that their tech people lack, and downtime that their management won't allow.

1) Because not yet 10am in California.
and/or
2) Because so much damage done already that leaving it up won't change anything.

It is just 8:40 AM at Nexon HQ, give them a chance to get their coffee in them and such. This is why they need more staff on weekends with the authority to hit the off switch till they can address something like this.

I went to bed expecting to be prompted with an Unscheduled Maintenance notice, but clearly that didn't happen.
How can they let it go on for this long without saying anything at all? Ridiculous.

adding to takebacker, the community wants a rollback because that's all they see, all they see is "omg dupe hack screwing FM for the last 2 days.
but these things are NEVER released as soon as they're found, i can (baselessly) guarantee that this has bveen going probably since day onet of red (who knows, maybe more). all a rollback would do is destroy the effect it's had on the last two days, but the ones that benefited from this for weeks will walk away scot-free with their pockets lined with gold.
there's also a very good chance that there's ANOTHER way to perform this dupe hack, usually when these things are released is because another hacking group found it, and the original one has another method to use it, so they release the method that many people know to cut the profits of the second group. if this is the case we can expect people to start generating again in secret once the dust of these days and nexon's answer settles down.
so a rollback will, at best, calm the general population, but it won't fix a single thing. the hellban delete method IS what should be done, in any normal scenario, but nexon fails extremely hard (or well, failed, let's see how they roll now huh) every time they did those
so really, for this problem, if nexon's as incompetent as it was, there's no true answer except bending over and taking this hack up their asses.

If i were at nexon i would put a huge digital display somewhere in the office that keeps a count of all the valuable items consumable or otherwise in the server at the time (unique pots, no boom aees, certain nebs, maybe even stuff like 1m maple point coins or things of that nature) with an alarm that pings people when there's an unnatural supply increase. (or in the case of things never meant to be obtained, any supply increase at all)
Also, nexon's response and work surely will test "a better maple" for s'hit sure.

Exactly why I don't bother keeping up with the econ/market anymore: stuff like this always throws a wrench in it. We've had so many of these by this point that I can't even imagine the level of damage done.
