Weve gotten a lot of satisfying work done this week! Some simple tweaks, some not-so-simple tweaks, and some additions were made as we get the game ready (I feel like Ned Stark at this point but OH MAN ITS COMIN HOLD ONTO YOUR BUTTS. We do have a few more problems to solve, though). Ill list the more prominent changes in bullet-point form:
Changed some recipes to make for a hopefully more balanced early game experience!
The scariest monsters only come out at night now. >
Some leveling bugs were fixed, especially on weapons and monsters.
Meat is earned through the use of hunting bows. Its a pretty good food source, so start practicing your archery.
More bosses have been configured. :)
More monsters have been configured, too!
You cant interact with doors when theyre wired. Gotta unlock em! Some networking bugs with wired objects were also fixed.
Object health was configured, making it just a bit harder to accidentally break things when you go around haphazardly swinging your pickaxe (you shouldnt do that anyway, youll put an eye out).
A lot more awesome weapon types have been configured, two of which Ill show you now
The party UI is in! But still needs a biiiit of time before its ready.
A good handful more random encounters were added, which Ill show you below from the point of view of Big Banana the Randomly Generated Apex (best not to ask how he got his name)
Big Banana was wandering around with his trusty flamethrower and a strong desire to set things aflame when, in the very near distance, he spied a big stone tower with a treasure chest guarded by some rather rude-looking Sentrybots. He downed a whole bowl of Ape Grapes for luck and set off to find out how well Sentrybots held up against 1000°C.
Luckily, they didnt hold up very well. Big Banana claimed his treasure!
With pockets full of money and explosives and heavy metal bars, Big Banana walked away from the tower confident that he could take on just about anything!
He wasnt paying much attention, though, and fell down a cliff into a valley full of monsters and died. Oops.
Jesus, you'd think if you were doing a playthrough video you'd at least talk about the actual damn game. and you know, have someone presenting it who actually knows how to play games. "How do I know how much wood I need?" you can clearly see it in the menu.

What an awful video.
[COLOR="#008080"]Northernlion just uploaded his vid....not sure if that one is better. Not a fan of the genre but it looks fun. :T

Honestly, the combat seems VERY awkward so far, and your characters are pretty floaty. I don't like how you get different loot based on what weapon type you use, meaning you don't really have any freedom of how you build your characters. You're always going to need to use every weapon type available to get the most out of your experience in any playthrough -- at least from what I can tell so far. If it's true then anybody who was discussing their "dream playstyles" are going to be pretty disappointed when they find out they're forced hybrid or gtfo.
Also, I hope a lot of the SFX are placeholders because they sound horrible. These "intense hiccup" sounds when getting hit, the monsters making burp and fart noises? Please fix.
I'm also on the fence about the procedurally generated monsters. On one hand it keeps you from having to see the same 50~100 enemy designs forever, but on the other hand they tend to look like complete pomegranate, which don't help when combined with the sounds some of them make.
Example: Armored, spiked dinosaur creature that appears to be missing a head makes, I kid you not, chihuahua noises at you.

Seriously? If that's true that's just fucking stupid.
I've been watching RockLeeSmile's stream and overall I'm still pretty excited for the game. I acknowledge that this is a beta, and while it may have a substantial amount of content available, it's not everything, nor is the stuff in it finalized. So, because of that, I haven't really been too judgmental of the game. Plus every streamer I've checked out just isn't really doing much aside from walking around planets, mining, and killing monsters--barely anyone is crafting stuff, building stuff, etc.
The game has a ton of potential, so I hope they don't royally mess this up. They have big shoes to fill following Terraria and trying to one-up it, so they cannot afford ridiculous mechanics or features. On that note, I also hope the SFX are temporary, it's really odd and distracting when the streamer is encountering these hostile alien creatures who are menacing and monstrous but then let out an awkward, loud horse neigh upon getting hit. It's just weird.
Was talking to my RL friend about the whole "Loot based on weapon" system and he pretty much just told me the typical "It's beta. People should pineappleing deal with it. Learn to craft weapons then."
Needless to say I was rather pissed at him for that response, especially since he basically resorted to the "White Knight" syndrome of "You can't peach about anything because it's Beta and it's not final" ordeal. Yes I understand it's beta, but that doesn't mean I can't talk about my displeasure over a system that more or less forces people to become a "Jack-of-all-trades" hybrid or else you're screwed.

"It's beta," isn't even a logical complaint in this situation. You don't fu'ck up and accidentally make a system that does that. If it exists, they clearly intended to build the game that way, and as a result it's working mostly as intended.
The system isn't AWFUL, although it has some stupid parts of it. Phantasy Star Portable 2/2i/Online 2 have all used this type of system (Class directly impact Drops), and for the most part it is acceptable. It just depends on HOW MUCH is exclusive to each weapon type. For example, if you will ONLY get X weapon type no matter what if you're using said weapon type, then that's pretty stupid, however if it just edges you towards more gear related to your weapon of choice, then that's a completely different story. It all depends on how it was implemented and how much influence it has over your drops.
If they can get it to work / mesh well then I'm ok with it. Obviously I'm rather skeptical on the system as a whole, because it can easily be screwed with and made horrible. Guess we'll find out just exactly how it works in ~32ish hours.
Someone's got to fill me in on this one, I've been searching the official Starbound forum and the only weapon I can see that changes the loot tables is the hunting bow... and that's just to get meat. I can't find "Sword users get only Swords" or "Gun users get only Guns". ;/
If a systems in place, it really doesn't bug me too much since I tend to go range overall anyways and maybe forge a sword or two for close combat. If it is like that, I can't really see it staying long due to the fans being extremely loud about decisions like these. We'll see though, got a day to go woot.
