Sudden Attack Closing

Polantaris Wrote:I won't deny that the game is actually enjoyable, but even the PvE gets P2W if it's anything like it used to be back when I played seriously. Once you got to the 110s leveling became painfully slow and mobs would kick your ass for lulz.

I love the game's concept, but the execution got pomegranatetier the further in the game I got.

Also I didn't know that there were only permanent versions. Pretty sure when I played when it was still owned by NDoors there were Non-Perma and Perma. Even without that it's still insanely annoying and a horribly P2W system.

I started playing the game shortly after it came out of Closed Beta when nDoors still ran it, and their item mall stuff was all permanent as well. The only items that aren't permanent are the licenses, and while those are definitely a big help, it's rather easy to make enough money to buy them off other players. I did it pretty regularly when I played, and I'm pretty lazy when it comes to constant grinding for stuff like that. Though yeah, no matter what you do, the game does get more P2W the higher you get.

I haven't played much in the past year prior to these past few weeks, but it's considerably easier to level up. There are a plethora of quests and the TBS dungeons give a ridiculous amount of EXP.

I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemies.

Well known and long time SA player here (4 years plus). Pretty much everyone knew the game was going to close because nexon removed 90% of the maps couple months ago, which i think is unprecedented in gaming history and haven't had any patches since then. Not to mention, every old school player quit around 2 years ago when nexon took over SA from gamehi and even the most loyal players left within the past few months such as myself. The game was known for having as many hackers as Combat Arms but we had brief periods of no hacks here and there but it's been too long since the game has been clean. For over a year, the game has seen a dramatic increase in Arab players (Saudi Arabia, Egypt) while players from other countries (Koreans, Americans, Canadians, Europeans, Australians) were leaving, which made it seem like the game wasn't dying but pretty much anyone with a brain knew.

Hackers were never a huge problem in SA because the legit skilled players would play amongst themselves, thereby avoiding these young wannabe hackers. The problem now is that there are no skilled players to play with so you're forced to play with these scrubs that are terrible even with hacks. A game that requires skill is no fun if everyone that still plays the game has none.

Also, many FPS players have a negative view on Combat Arms so compensating us through CA will not be successful. I was hoping for some compensation for Extraction maybe? Idk how good that game is though. Beta key plz!

So... basically they just bought it to get rid of it? I don't get it. Why let a game become so hacker infested and remove content? >_>

Well actually SA has been hack infested before nexon bought it but nexon was certainly worse than gamehi at blocking them. Since SA doesn't require a good PC, many 3rd world country players come to this game. First there were Brazilians, then Vietnamese, then Arabs. Brazilians got their own SA and Viets were ip blocked or something.

SA is the most popular FPS game in Korea (3rd most popular game in Korea atm even after 2004 when the game was released), and i know it's really big in Japan and SEA. You can imagine that most Koreans that live in NA play this game since they played it in Korea. So you're talking about some of the experienced fps players against some of the most uneducated and terrible gamers. So every game, you're either facing really pro koreans or really really bad arabs. Koreans have been gone for a while now so many players claimed it to be dead. There are some average players here and there but they're a minority. And now being a garbage player with no common sense or aim is the average.

About removing content, no one knows why it happened. Nexon called it an "event" where they just randomly removed 90% of the maps. Players thought it was temporary but they were optimists.

That doesn't mean a damn thing in this business. A few who spend plenty isn't as good as many who spend little.

I've seen games that had that diehard audience that would spend their checks away and they still close down because at the end of the day it's only THEM still left spending and not many more. An MMO can't float on the backs of a few.

I know that. The people I personally know are far from the only people who do it. The game itself still has a very solid core group of players that have been going strong for years, and while I can't pretend to know how much money they've spent on the game, there are countless players I've met through the PvP in the game that have gear only possible through spending thousands of dollars on the game.

While I don't really think you were making a case that Atlantica was going to close down, I will point out regardless, that they just rolled out a massive update recently, with plans for more next year, so there's no real chance of the game going down just yet.

I saw guns and immediately thought it was Combat Arms that was closing without reading anymore into it, assuming that I'd just somehow forgotten what "that dudebro shooter by Nexon is called".

I had no idea they even published this game.

Well.. Nexon publishes both in Japan so it's a win/win for them?

This compensation doesn't seem so bad, the dungeon fighter one was horrible.. The best was probably when PopTag closed, I spent like 4k nx on that game on one of those balloon covers, and they compensated me with 30k NX for being a beta player

Well I check on their facebook pages, how many likes do they have? Well they seem better off than Mabinogi and Vindictus, so they might not but I rarely hear anything about Atlantica.
 Nexon Facebook game likes

Poptag was the game that did that event where you hit a certain level in poptag and you'd get NX to use in Maplestory right? iirc i think it is..?

Those pages weren't all made at the same time, so not exactly an accurate gauge there. They suck at social media.

They're really bad at it that is true. They're really bad at keeping hype for their games too.

Try your results again using Alexa or similar for the comparisons - http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/maplestory.nexon.net

Where do visitors go on nexon.net?

Surprising, not something I expected. lol 59% of sites load faster than nexon's. Still though, Nexon does pull in a lot of AD revenue. Does CA have an AD when the game is closed?

Yeah. They all have something (usually at /ending/default.aspx on the subdomain). I've actually been looking at using Intergi as our ad provider here.

They sound like a good choice, I hope they don't have some strange restrictions like google did.

They have the same rules more or less, but it's all in how they're applied and enforced obviously.
I think they are a better match for us since they're game focused as we are, but have concerns about how well they/we would perform together, so they're still under consideration.
