Wii U Discussion: Super Mario 3D World out in all the places (that matter!)
Remoir Wrote:idk in the other games i feel like he moves too fast for me to do precision platforming..
Nearly said he should have an endless runner game but then i realise i have Sonic Dash on my phone lol :3

You don't do precision platforming in the gotta go fast games for that very reason.

You also don't do precision platforming in the slowmo games because sega don't know how to give you a character you really have control over.

Basically, if you want to play with precision platforming in a 3d enviroment, you should be getting a game that starts with Super Mario _____.

Good job 3d world is out soon, it can't possibly be worse than lost world, even if it does sound horribly short compared to the galaxy games Sad.

but those red rings mang!!

..hype for 3d world i guess. I still have pikmin to play too.

If that's what you call precision platforming, we have two very different definitions, I suppose. It always seemed to me like they invented the homing attack specifically because they couldn't get the precision part down.

I guess I prefer gotta go fast sonic because it's trying to be it's own game instead of being a poor mans mario galaxy.

Lozmaster Wrote:The first two levels of world 4 are difficult and bullpomegranate for all the wrong reasons. (So probably "Why did I buy this game, this is a total let down"). I won't write it off just yet, as the last few worlds might be better, but I hear bad things about Silent forest too, so I'm not hopeful anymore.

4-1, you have to follow a specific route otherwise you get stuck looping around infinitely. This wouldn't be so bad but it's full of long sections where you can't interact with sonic at all. Some of them are 15+seconds long, and there are multiple repeats of them very close together. I watched my recording and at one point you literally have 10 seconds of control of sonic for a compulsory 50 second long section to get through the level. There is another 30 second long section of this that you will probably have to do more than once because you have to do a ridiculous bit of parkour that requires you jumping around a corner and then back on to the wall from the side you just came from. (I think you may be able to do it with a laser wisp as there is a laser wisp crystal right there, but I hit it multiple times and it ended up in forcing me back to an earlier section multiple times).

Whoever thought those non interactive sections was a good idea shouldn't be allowed to be involved in sonic game developement ever again.

And not only that, it's the first ice world, so sonic now controls like pomegranate, with any semblance of control of your jumps removed when you try jumping while on ice (Rather than a normal spin jump, he twirls like he thinks he's a ballerina, which seems to prevent you from using your double jump or homing attacks).

4-2 sticks sonic inside a giant snowball, kinda like super monkey ball but you have two options: Too slow, but some semblance of control(at some points, this actually gets you killed because you can't jump far enough to get across a gap), or too fast and if you're going in even the slightly wrong direction, that's it, instant death, because you can't stop or steer in any significant way.
Oh, also if you even touch an enemy you're probably dead.
I haven't actually cleared this stage yet because I was fed up with the game after trying to do 4-1 and 4-2 in a row.

I just cannot fathom what they were thinking. They've lost any goodwill they had from me now from the good, not great, first 3 worlds anyway.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love difficult platformers, Super Meat Boy is my second most played game on steam, and the perfect run on Mario Galaxy 2 was amazing, but the difference between those two and this is they played perfectly. Lost world feels like the game is pineappleing me over for no fault of my own.

I now really hope the 3rd game in the Nintendo exclusive trilogy of sonic games is going to be Sonic Generations 2 or Colours 2 rather than like lost world.

4-2 wasn't so bad to me. And yes bumping into those Abominable Snowbabies will bounce you off the stage, lol.

This game is weird for me. I'm enjoying the charm- the music, graphics, the environments...but then on the other hand I hate the pacing. Why am I forced to fight 3 or 4 giant centipede bots that take several hits to kill? Why do I have to guide this slow moving piece of fruit to a blender? And the bosses are more ridiculous than the NSMB bosses. I think I took out one guy in 2 hits. No challenge at all.

And yeah, it certainly fails at being a precision platformer...not that the genesis games were much better, but in those games I felt the characters had a much better sense of control and momentum, something Sega has not been able to achieve in their modern games for god knows why.

I think part of the problem was I already wasn't enjoying myself with lost world, then world 4 happened, and now I hate the entire thing. (Since it doesn't get much better).

So I played the demo for Sonic lost world and I really like it. But Reading what Lozmaster; is saying only the first world is actually good? I do like how sonic is controlled But I don't like the segments where I can't control sonic. because its not obvious some of the time that I have no influence over him. Anything over 3secs begins to get annoying. it is really 10/50secs of control in some area's? thats really terrible.

i think the only level i actually enjoyed was the one in world 3 where you auto run through beehives.

The boss battle at the end spoiled it but it was incredibly funny to me having sonic faceplant into a wall and die LOL Smile

That's the hands down best level in the game by far. Even with the cheap deaths. Then again, that's the closest to "gotta go fast" sonic the game gets, so that might be why I liked it.

I think it was world 2 though.
edit: it's this level. Shame there weren't more like it.

So, apparently Super Mario 3D World is out.

Was wondering if anyone has played it. I've been reading some good things about it but I don't know...

By now I've come to a point where I'm convinced that Mario can do no wrong. I haven't played 3D World yet, but if 3D Land is anything to go by, I'm sure World is well-deserving of all the 9.5's and 10's its been getting.

As for Sonic and his "Lost World"... Eh. I've been what some would consider a "hardcore" Sonic fan for years up until around a year or two ago: I've owned (and still own) almost every (prominent, non game-gear) title he's ever featured in, including the abysmal '06, and I was all over the franchise in my teenage years. That being said, he's in a ridiculous rut right now in my opinion, one that Lost World didn't do anything to help him out of. The primary antagonists look boring and cliched, and the voice work + writing is cringe-worthy ("I cant wait to pound your sorry blue butt!!". No, really). Colors was okay, but somehow seemed a bit obnoxious to me.

Two words: FREAKING LEGENDARY!

Super Mario 3D World is awesome. Fun as hell to play. Amazing storyline (FINALLY Bowser did something different!) Overall, it's a master piece.

Interesting. Thanks guys, I think I'll pick it up. It looks really good, but trailers are meant to look good, and I can never tell with "pro-"reviews.

Amazing storyline? in a mario platformer?

Talk about setting the bar low.

I think he meant that Bowser kidnapped someone who wasn't Peach for once. Tongue

(But yeah, not what I would call a "storyline.")

Mind you, I have not played it, so I wouldn't know.

So I ended up getting it last night, and I must thank Declaimed; and FlameChocobo;, because it's really a great game. The new abilities are quite enjoyable, and for the most part the level design is superb. I've only been annoyed at one level so far and I'm up to World 3 already. Hoping for a harder difficulty once you beat it or something, though, because so far it's been pretty easy and the levels are a tad too short to not have some replayability right now. Really that's my only problem, I feel like it won't last me another 10 hours and for the $60 I paid that's pretty unacceptable. Could have spent less on X-Rebirth and be playing for months. Will have to see, hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

 Annoying Level

It doesn't happen. The game is shorter than the galaxy ones too (~90 levels instead of 120), but we've known that for a while. The last world might be difficult, but don't expect much more than that.

After a long time waiting I'm finally getting a Wii U. Is there any other difference between basic/deluxe aside hdd/color/nintendo land?

Deluxe is the best way to go. Basic has a much smaller memory size compared to the Deluxe and lacks a few extra things. Also, the basic model is being discontinued and the deluxe's price should now have dropped to the basic. (Used to cost like 350$) so all the more reason to go for the black.

But can't I fix it with an external hdd? Also I know it's being discontinued but tge price drop over here is abismal.

What extra things?

What's the price drop wherever you are?
