Yes! I never quite understood the reasoning. With gach tickets I suppose it was one thing, since they were 1,000 NX.
As a side note, does anyone kind of think this is somewhat hilarious? I mean, when you really break down how Nexon makes their money, the whole concept is absolutely ridiculous. I'm kind of beyond the point of being pissed off; anyone interested in taking bets on how this will all end?
It will basically fail, and Nexon will have no clue why seemingly everything they tried never fixed anything and often made things worse.
Because the West has a lower tolerance for this kind of exploitative practice, our version will fail first, and after that it's a matter of whether or not they pull their heads out of their asses and see what they are doing wrong. If they fail to do so, it'll be a couple more "successful" years in the East until that market fails as well.

Well put. They never did try and adapt the game to Western culture, now did they? Well, unless you count those sad attempts at putting commercials on MTV/Cartoon Network/Nickelodeon years ago.
Does anyone here play EMS? I'd be curious to see how that compares to GMS. It is Europe, but it's not Asia, so I'd imagine there are more similarities in Western Europe to the U.S./Canada than Japan/China/Korea.
Side note - who thinks they'll at some point combine all the servers, or divide them into 2 or 3 worlds. Just something I was thinking about. They've already done it with GAZED and CMYK...

I don't see it failing that quickly. You guys also forget that maplestory Brazil failed and I think Taiwan got merged, something along those lines. Although nexon's practice doesn't really bring long term revenue, it's the short term spurts that will keep them afloat for at least 3 years.

The problem I see is that the NX has completely replaced any ingame accomplishments.
It's one thing for NX to make it easier to get endgame gear; it's another for it to be the only way.
Take for example the Reverse equips. When they came out, you had to hunt in ToT for many moons to get Pieces of Time. You could do this at any level of funding - more meant you could do it faster, but you could still do it with your unfunded range. 2x drop cards would speed things up, but if you didn't have one, you still found Pieces of Time.
The 150+ equips cannot be obtained by playing MS. At any level of equipment, you will never get a single one. Legendary equips cannot be obtained by playing MS. You will never ever get one.
What this does is make playing the actual game pointless - getting to a higher level doesn't unlock new gear. Grinding for 1000 hours doesn't unlock new gear.

Do you think everyone that buys NX also goes on forums? Lolno.
There are still thousands of kids who buy NX on a weekly basis. This is enough to keep Maplestory profitable enough for Nexon.

Yeah, across all of the games, maybe. But certainly not just on MapleStory, considering "thousands" is the amount of people who actually play the game now.

I noticed that too and I think that widens the gap between the poor/people who cannot afford NX and the rich/can afford NX. I think that is the only flaw that Nexon has at the moment but it isn't that fatal yet.

The thing I'm really interested in knowing is the actual profit drops from Nexon from Bigbang era to present, for the reasons of gloating and lulz. Links anyone?

Worldwide revenues have actually been increasing. It's just been failure in the West.

The problem with relying on that is that we're not sure what maplestory did specifically. A lot of factors such as their lay offs really put those results at a skew.

I mean "it isn't that fatal yet" as in, it is not at the level of fatality MS will shut down within this year. But I do think this flaw with MS along with Nexon taking too long to respond to technical problems will be more fatal in the upcoming years if they do nothing about it or make those two flaws even worse.

Although this is more of an opinionated description, it's hard to read that as "is not that fatal yet" when they have this problem for years already (3 to be exact), so people will disagree with your wording there at the very least

Random question: Why does anyone care anymore? I don't know about you guys, but it's been like this for years (as KhainiWest; said) and it is what it is. The past few months everyone has been talking about it but it's kind of too little too late, at least in my opinion. I'm just kind of resigned to whatever messy fate is in store for this game and totally worn out by all the "the game is dying" and suggestions on how to solve it, which won't be acknowledged. Anyone else feeling this way a of late?
But hey, I'd love to be proven wrong.

I have, being on the official MapleStory forums and all. That's not to say that the people who are posting suggestions for change are foolish, they do have good ideas (at least the ones I've come across). However, the fact that Nexon takes the effort to look the other way makes it seem hopeless and no one that's in the "inside" is doing much about it in fear of losing that "personal" connection. The truth is, the morale is low these days. The fact that Tyler, who was someone people looked up to, gave up on MapleStory and that Aurtax got fired shattered any hope people had for this game. The Nexon Volunteers are not faring any better about the whole situation since they are caring for their status more than anything. So yes, I'm a bit peeved that no one who CAN be heard is doing something. Cowards.

Most bossing doesnt even unlock new gear! You can spend thousands of dollars to get all the good things, you go to Chaos Root Abyss and viola! You got 18k meso sacks. Real Nice.

Sure let's just give up and praise everything that's happened.
That will surely make things better for the game.

The command hierarchy is ridiculously long when it comes to Nexon. It would be nearly impossible for a Volunteer with a privileged line of connection to get something all the way overseas. Sure, from our perspective, it's an esteemed title, but when it comes down to business they are peons of peons.
All the same I will still fault them for not trying.

About the same value as endlessly whining to each other when you're all equally powerless and pointless.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

The only relevant one is the last one. The first one had a consolidation, the second had a non-operating writedown, and the third was their change to IFRS. Regarding the last one, the IFRS change takes about three periods to be accurate for the purposes of forecasting (at least in my opinion).

I can't really blame the volunteers. They don't want to lose that privileged connection they have with Nexon by telling them to really make changes.

Don't think Volunteers are supposed to do that kind of things, they are doing it for free you know. You can only expect this much work from a Volunteer. Besides, they're VFM's: Volunteer Forum Moderators. Whatever they may come across on the forum, xparasite9's proposals for example, they can ignore as long as there is no rule breaking. It's the job of an actual staff to look into whatever is suggested on the forums.

If you really want to make a change in the way Nexon operates, go apply for a job. Or offer your services on a freelance basis, for example.
