That's the same catch as Dojo gloves: if you can complete Dojo, you've probably spent thousands of dollars worth of NX already (even if it wasn't your own money). You're the last person who needs another 5-10k.

Sorry I didn't articulate that well, I'm not familiar enough with dojo's current format but just follow me. Let's say that theres 40 floors of dojo, every 10 levels, you get a small amount of nx per floor. 1-10 you get 50 nx, 11-20 you get 200, etc etc. By completing it (including the scaled nx) you get that final reward. Other pq's which don't require power, such as ludi maze/ludi pq/orbis would also give you that amount for completion, where having full parties reward you with more nx.

All and all I feel as Stereo; has said it better than I have, we need a method to make everything accessible in the game by playing the game.

Sephie Wrote:The old pre-BB maple was a terrible game compared to what it is now. It was a treadmill-grindfest of a game with an terrible high level community with much content out of reach of the casual player. The UI was terrible and outdated, the economy was dull and no better back then, hacking was worse, training was worse, classes were worse and badly designed, and accessibility was a huge problem for many classes than weren't sins or mages (I hated accuracy so much as a spearman and I hated Gobis as a Bandit). When 4th job came, mage ultis were the most unfair training tool in the game.

In my opinion, the only reason people ever remembered it so fondly (other than the social aspect) was because Nexon's business model wasn't so completely exploitative. The moment potential released was the moment Nexon had compromised its integrity of the game we played.

The novelty of it is alluring but that's all it is. To make a game people want to come back to, novelty can't be the only thing there. The sheer fact that Nexon is still standing by their game after all these years and creating newer and newer content (subjective) is what makes many people stay despite their monetized-powercreep business model, and there would be no way anyone would still be here if the game hadn't budged from 4th job/Leafre.

I liked repeatedly doing PQs all day long. I liked huge maps with lovely platformer terrain that I'd just wander around in just for the sake of wandering. I liked chatting with people while riding on ships. Because of the scarcity of equipment drops I actually valued my equips and felt a connection to them. Every class, every job had its specific purpose. Thieves were wanted for their haste. Dark sight was needed in certain PQs. A mage's teleport was needed in certain PQs. The mages skills Seal and Slow were very useful and often needed. Warriors were wanted to their Rage, or Hyper Body, or just their strength period. Bowmen attacked from safe distances and weren't too shabby at mobbing.
What was this "much content out of reach of the casual player" anyway? I am having trouble recalling that.

If NexonAM did it right, this could actually help them.. In all honesty, most players who would play it would be older players who have since stopped playing MS altogether or only log MS now to talk and AFK. If they made a server like this, and these players began playing again, things like Gacha and AP resets would be relevant like they were years ago before mass HP boosts and bosses became giant platypi. I remember people paying thousands on AP resets to HP wash. I'm sure HP washing wasn't intended, but they obviously didn't mind raking in all that money from players who did it. You also didn't need to HP wash in order to do things, it was just a luxury. With good skill, you could easily do things such as anego or BF, among other things, without the necessary HP to tank a hit.

Though it could be much easier to just make a server with no potential, but they'd have to put that extra time in to nerf a lot of monsters to keep with the massive loss of damage by players. We all know that extra work for Nexon means it just wouldn't happen.

Either way, this will never happen because MS isn't Runescape and Nexon isn't Jagex

Also, the game wasn't THAT much better back then. I would still prefer playing then over now a hundred times over, but it's more of a nostalgia thirst than thinking it was a better game back then.

What reason was a Paladin ever needed? They didn't have Rage or Hyper Body and they were far weaker than Hero / Dark Knight unless the boss was weak to Holy.

Pretty much 99% of the bosses were out of reach. People / hackers hogging the bosses only made the situations worse.
A fair amount of high end training spots were overtaken unless you were, or had, an Ulti spamming Mage

Well it wasn't so much a party class at the time, but they were the best defensively. If nothing else, Paladin's defense and blocking ability allowed them to handle party organization things at Zakum and such without as much worrying about dying if parties had to be remade in the middle of a boss fight. I suppose other warriors could do it too, but Paladin easily had the highest defensive power.

...nowadays, potential makes it easy for various classes to cap defense, and classes like Wind Archer get -30% damage intake...in third job.

While true, Defense didn't mean anything Pre-BB. Only after Big Bang did Defense actually mean something.

This reminds me of that one thread on the now long gone forums of Maplestory where someone suggested a paladin as a class idea post BB....

Their suggestion was also basically a DW with res.

And yes, they were serious.

One topic: I don't think it'd be too great of an idea. They would have to mix and match patches around to fix bugs and knicks and knacks, which given how they code things, is an absolute horror story. It sounds great in theory, but in execution, I can't see it working too well.

Well, Threaten used to be more effective at reducing damage taken - since the old damage formula was quadratic, and it came in before wdef. 40% off a base damage of 3000 made it 1100, so if your def was -500, then that would be 600 instead of 2500 damage (and then PG cuts it to 300)

Course, Threaten was a whole-map skill so it only takes one Paladin, who doesn't have to be in the same party. I did a few Zak runs as the 13th squad member.

I kinda miss higher HP being a Warrior exclusive and being the difference between 2hko and not - now every boss 2hkos every class.

Uh-huh. And tell me...aside from the fact that we have only 40% of the players we had back then, what has changed that? A couple of bosses being instanced?

Wow I had no idea that mini-dungeons never existed ever.

Need I remind you of the SleepyWood Zak schedule? Very little people were able to Zak / HT unless you had a good amount of connections with people, otherwise you had no chance in hell of even trying.
What changed that? Nexon nerfing Zak, HT, and introducing bigger bosses (CZAK, CHT, etc) with better drops? Zak has been nerfed multiple times over its lifespan.

Newtie and Skele Mini-dungeons were never a thing until a great while after Leafre / 4th job was already out. During the time / patch period people are suggesting, they didn't exist.

Newtie mini dungeon was useless, just as many other mini dungeons were. I think they released a better training spot before the release of mini dungeons so no one would be at Newties. Skele mini dungeon was just as bad, and a bad argument for xparasite. Archers and thieves had no chance there unless they were training with a DK, level 150+, or HP washed because otherwise they'd 1hit you.

xparasite is just using any argument he can, despite being contradictory to the rest of the other arguments he has used. Just the previous post talks about classes being necessary and a way to socialize and then this talks about mini dungeon that for me ruined social aspect. After they were released I couldn't find Newtie/Skele parties anymore at ch1, I didn't meet new people and after a couple of months I had my first prolonged break because the game got boring.

I'm sorry to hear you never had anyone in your BL and you were never in a successful guild.

I blame leech. The only mage "Friend" I had was my RL sister, because every other mage I knew would take leech over everything else as #1 priority.

As an archer, i wasn't 1 hit by newties at all, even at 115 o....o it be extremely close, having to repot after every attack though, but thieves were, unless they were a shad^

They had to fund the millions of mesos a day potion frenzy somehow.
Plus the less idiotic ones knew enough math to know that a friend helping with leech and HS actually boosted the XP for everyone after a certain threshold in the party XP curve. I almost always had friends tagging along and once the leeches saw the XP went up with one more person they shut up and paid happily.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

Well, like many people have said, going back to the past isn't the solution since not all aspects of the game were good back then, especially the grinding aspect.

If you ask me, I would say....just scrap/tweak that stupid potential system (+ those related) and adjust the monsters' stats accordingly to match the damage loss. I would be happy with a game which isn't pay-2-win, which was what it used to be. This would in turn bring back party play and teamwork since bosses wouldn't be able to be taken down in seconds/minutes, which was what I loved back then. I seriously hate the current solo mindset.

I suppose there's no chance this would happen as this would be too much trouble for nexon and they will lost revenue. Sigh, fine, I will just dream Rolleyes

You're right, Newties were easy. I meant Skeles.

That just shows how poor your arguments are.
