Thanks everyone for their feedback and ideas/opinions, looks like people are honestly interested.

I guess the easiest way to make this secure would simply be to avoid using your actual character names (with your account name being completely innecessary). Like, my character is LegendGospel, but if I'm paranoid I can just register that mule as "gospel" in the website. Since it's not actually necessary to have your ranking picture or anything. You could even use a completely different name, but that might be confusing for you.

Anyway waiting for more suggestions, cheers.

If you go that route, just have a checkbox by Name to indicate whether it's a real character name or a pseudonym, and use a generic pic for pseudonyms instead of wasting resources on fake lookups. Preserves maximum flexibility and anonymity depending on the individual needs/preferences.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

I'd use it if:

1. you could decide how your mules look - pull from Rankings, submit your own using BannedStory/Imgur, or just simple text.
2. you could name your mule whatever you want - the system's default could be a generic Mechanic 1, Mechanic 2, Phantom, etc. so that it's completely your call if you want its IGN known

Using a different name for your mules wouldn't be confusing imo. It shouldn't be hard to recall what your character looks like, or at the very least, what class it is.

Yeah, I keep a local file of my accounts anyway (listing the chars on them) - that part doesn't need any help, and I can just refer to that to figure out which account each mule is on.

If a hacker hits Nexon's DB hard enough presumably they can generate the character->account mapping, but I don't know if they ever have? My impression is they just swiped login info and tried each account to find out what was on it, which is pretty ineffective for doing that kind of search. I don't think knowing the specific IGNs that have godly items is a big risk - most of that can be accomplished by visiting the FM and looking at shops more easily anyway, if they do have the char->account mapping and a tool to break into arbitrary accounts.

I alphabetized my etc. items mules and sorted equips by class - so the mules' igns are WarABC, MagDEF, BowGHI, ThiJKLM, HeroNOP, etc. it adds a bit of overhead moving things to them (have to log in several mules when dumping items) but makes it much easier to find them again. Although lately I'm just using the 25 or whatever characters on my main account to store stuff.

One thing that'd make me use this is if it was easy to orchestrate gear movements - like, if I start a new physical character, locate my WG, Donkey Balloon, Branch Nose, and Evo Rings - if I start a magic character, same thing except it's a different WG - and gives me a short list of what mules to log on, with "confirm" buttons to say that I've moved each mule's equips to my new character. I think what it'd need for that is to be able to mark 'shared' equips that I'm likely to move around, and search among those. I don't expect it to calculate which cape is the best option or anything, just pick the one that fits my level/class requirements ,which it can figure out based on the item's average stats.
